If you endorse Winfrey as a candidate, then you're giving up.

Seriously, going from one celebrity who makes money from conning gullible people to another celebrity who makes money from conning gullible people is not a good plan if you care for the future of the United States.

How about going from Trump to a candidate who can beat him vs one who can't?

Hypothetically, of course.

Trump is just lying about sending thousands of extra troops.
So far, there are maybe 100, and the Pentagon has neither interest nor orders to send the Arkam Asylum- kind of number of 15,000.

Well, that would be a disqualifier, but I wasn't aware that she makes money from conning gullible people. How so?

I think he means that she sells woo. I wouldn't call it conning if she believes in said woo, however.

Yeah, I'd have to know it that's because she's anti-science or because she believed the wrong "experts." A few probing questions should answer that.

Photo embedded in tweet. Since Fortenberry doesn't want it shared, and since he'll try to get you fired if you do share it, I suggest that nobody reading this thread share the photo with anybody.

I had to go find the image and in the interests of Congressman Fortenberry's thin skin, I sent it to my entire GMail mailing list (880 names) to remind them to please not copy or like the vandalized pictures and further asked them to forward my message to everyone they know to make sure we don't harm his feelings. Jeff, if you're reading..... we hear you, man!

"Anybody throwing stones, rocks, like they did to Mexico and the Mexican military, Mexican police – where they badly hurt police and soldiers of Mexico – we will consider that a firearm because there’s not much difference when you get hit in the face with a rock. As you know, it was very violent a few days ago, very violent."

-- President Donald J. Trump (Nov 1, 2018)

"If our soldiers or Border Patrol or ICE are going to be hit in the face with rocks, we're going to arrest those people - that doesn't mean shoot them - but we're going to arrest those people quickly and for a long period of time."

-- President Donald J. Trump (Nov 2, 2018)

If I have to choose between Oprah and Trump I will give up on democracy as a concept.

The Woo Slinging Anti-intellectual Queen versus the Hate Spewing Anti-Intellectual King.

THIS.
Trump has pretty much conviced me that I don't want ANY television personalkty without experience in Government getting within a 100 Miles of the White House.
To be fair, Oprah is nowhere near as obnoxious or dangerous as Trump is. But still, it think she totally lacks the resume I like to see in a potential Potus.

Wow. Totally decent backpedal, which would not have been required by any president in recent memory.

And still: rock throwing can be a serious attack, but not at all the same as firing a gun at someone, so it's not clear what he means by a "long period of time". It's also not clear why a person seeking asylum would throw rocks at ICE or other US officials once they've crossed into the US.

But, yeah, if on US soil, they throw rocks, they should be prosecuted with the appropriate crime. You let me know if that actually happens. I don't recall it from asylum seekers previously, but, well, could happen I suppose.

ETA: Is this photo edited to show a ridiculous tan for Trump or is the lighting just odd?

Doesn't that mean they will get in the country anyway, albeit under arrest.

Job done.

Oprah is a very successful businesswoman -- unlike Trump, she really is a self-made success -- which implies skills that Republicans supposedly consider valuable in a man but apparently find intimidating in a woman. She's also not establishment politics, which trumpers supposedly value. I didn't take Oprah seriously, either, but I've changed my mind. And I think she would win against any Republican, which is very important. Each of us can be fairly sure that our own ideal President is almost certainly not to be elected; that's just politics in a democracy. If the choice is to try to make this system work or give up, I'm all in.

Sorry, but for me her total lack of experience in Gonvernment is a automatic disqualification.

I would not be quite as rough on Oprah as you are (in an age of growin illiteracy, anybody who uses hier power to convince people to read books like Tolstoy"s "Anna Karina" gets a thumbs up from me for that) but I agree she does have the job qualfications (as opposed to the legal qualifications) to be Presidnet.

And why are they needed? The Caravan is nothing a couple of dozen trained Border Patrolmen could not handle.

Sure, absolutely, but if it were, God forbid, to come down to Oprah or Trump, I'd very reluctantly go for Oprah and wish desperately that the nation would return to sanity.

I don't think anyone here is saying they specifically want Oprah as president (i.e. no "draft Oprah" campaigns). I think what they're saying is that if it came down to Oprah vs. Trump they would greatly prefer Oprah, but only if those were the only 2 realistic choices available at the time.

Did you mean "does not have?" Doesn't much matter unless she actually runs, of course, but whether or not she does, I hope she keeps speechifying. For the time being, I'm just enjoying the terror the very idea of President Winfrey strikes in the heart of trumpers, because they know she would easily win. :p

One of Trump's legal cases (involving emoluments) just isn't going away:

From: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/nov/2/trump-loses-another-round-emoluments-court-battle/
President Trump suffered another setback Friday in his bid to avoid a constitutional rebuke when a federal judge refused to halt a case challenging his ownership of the Trump International hotel in D.C. Judge Peter J. Messitte rejected the president’s arguments that the Emolument Clauses lawsuit would be a distraction... The president had asked the judge to put the case on ice while he appealed those rulings, staying legal discovery that could result in the president having to answer a number of tricky questions about his business empire. But the judge, in his ruling Friday, rejected that.

I can accept this sentiment.

Of course, I still want a president who can speak English. The last part says we are going to arrest them for a long period of time. That sort of implies they won’t get a trial; instead they will be under arrest for a long period of time.
