Yes the "No win" situation is of his own creation, but it's still a no win situation for him.

What is unclear to me is whether the bombs were constructed with the aim of detonation.

So you and I do not disagree regarding what you just said. It's just that I am not certain whether it's analogous to the bombs. Sure could be, in which case there's no difference at all. But it is also possible that the bombs aimed at terrorism but not murder or injury.

Not sure why you're quite so puzzled about where our difference lies. Do try and understand. Not very subtle honestly.

On this point, you simply lie. I've never suggested that sending these bombs was anything but a serious crime.

Not all serious crimes are attempted assassination.

I'm not at all committed to any view here. I'm not being Bob either, since I've said that the evidence presented at trial would suffice.

I'm not defending the bomber, except in the sense that we can't be positive yet that he attempted assassination. That's not, I think, in his charges yet, but that would probably be state and may come later.

you are wrong in this case: the bomb maker assembled a device with all necessary components - no one who has seen them has denied that.
If they were not active because of improper assembly, the bomb maker would have to make the case that this was by design, not due to error.

A similar case would be a shooter who hasn't cleaned and oiled his gun (or assembled it faultily), so it jams when fired - unless he has some written statement tucked away showing that he intended the weapon to malfunction, he is fully culpable of attempted murder.

No one who has examined the bombs have said much. They are dangerous explosive devices. The government has said nothing more than that.

Some have said there was no trigger. I put no faith in the words of someone who hasn't examined them.

I'd just as soon wait for more information. Whoever sent them is certainly guilty of terrible crimes and I expect that man is Sayoc. But I won't call him guilty of crimes that haven't even been filed yet.

I was ready to point out that perhaps Trump was referring to ongoing allegations against Gillum, but he isn't. There are concerns about Tallahassee, but nothing tied to Gillum.

So yeah, just lying again.

But not quite. They said they weren't hoax bombs, which is true since they really are explosives. And it could be that they were intended to go off, in which case intended murder is appropriate.

But it could be that they weren't intended to go off. Even nut cases might pull back from murder. In which case, it isn't attempted murder, even though it was terribly dangerous.

In neither case are they hoaxes, far as I'm concerned, because they were dangerous as hell. And in neither case this a mere prank (not that you've accused me of saying so but others have).
