Ed George Soros and others targetted by Terrorist

Trump, with his endorsement of the fringe of Fox, as well as Breitbart, Druge, Infowars and worse and his denouncement of the rest of the Media has lent Presidential credibility of anti-Semitism and anti-Jewish conspiracy theories;
Far-right extremists are being told by the Q-Anon nutjobs that Trump is waging a secret war against the (((Deep State))) - and if you are the Pipe Bomber, you think he is wining and needs a bit of help, and if you are the Pittsburgh Shooter, you think he has lost and you need to execute the Final Solution yourself.

But both are part of a narrative Trump has help create and continues to popularize.

Well he is certainly not a populariser of reason and rationality.

Yeah. The trumpkins can yell "he doesn't mean that!!!" all they want, but when you sell these narratives to an entire population, out of all these people you will find a handful that buy it, hook, line, sinker -- and with a country the size of the USA, that handfull is necessarily going to be a big one. Out of those, some will decide to act on the narrative.

And keep this in mind America....You were lucky this time; lucky that the guy who bought it hook, line and sinker had the intelligence of a breeze-block - next time, you might not be so lucky, and if someone doesn't rein in Dolt 45's divisive, violence-inciting rhetoric, your luck will run out!

"Donald Jr.’s wife, with whom he has five children, is half-Jewish. Trump’s younger son, Eric, married a Jewish woman two years ago in a highly publicized wedding under a traditional chuppa. It was officiated by Jared Kushner, Trump’s Jewish son-in-law and husband of Ivanka, who herself converted to Orthodox Judaism seven years ago.

"Trump will go down in history as the most pro-Jewish, pro-Israel president ever."

So regardless of whether the shooter felt Trump was not rabid enough, he was nevertheless directly inspired to this particular action by a narrative Trump set in motion.

Remember correlation and causation: In this case, I think that it's actually possible that Trump's railing against the poor emigrants in the caravan and the alleged Middle Eastern terrorists hiding in it was inspired by the shooter and his crowd of right-wing extremists rather than the other way around. The shooter may have thought that Trump watered down their xenophobia by not explicitly including the Jews in his demonization.

I agree.
Making Jews in America fear for their lives will cause more of them to emigrate to Israel.
A sound pro-Israel strategy by Trump.

The 1st and 2nd Amendments make it very hard to do so, even if a Clinton Government was in power. Unless they are actively committing a crime, then you can't "crackdown" on them because you are violating their 1st amendment rights of speech and freedom of assembly. Similarly, unless they have been convicted of a felony, then removal of their guns would be a 2nd Amendment rights violation.

Unless you know of a way to crack down on them without violation of rights?

For starters, the President could make an effort to prevent far-right extremists and supremacists from joining law enforcement or ICE.

"Acknowledging that both sides attract bigots undermines a critical narrative for Democrats. This is why places like the Anti-Defamation League spend an inordinate amount of time acting as if some fringe Nazis, most of whom probably live in vans down by the river, are a cohesive and dangerous movement while largely ignoring, or quickly moving past, leftist anti-Semitism.

"While it’s inconceivable that a person who spent a decade as a member of the Klan could find a place in politics today, a member of the Nation of Islam can rise to become deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee without anyone in his party challenging his ascendency -- Keith Ellison once appeared as a local Farrakhan spokesman in Minneapolis."

No one questions his pro-Israel credentials, although in reality he might be more pro-Netanyahu. Pro-Jewish? Rabbid antisemites form one of his core constituencies. He can't afford to be pro-Jewish even if he wanted to.

The lameness of that whataboutism is pathetic, given that Ellison disavowed Farrakhan and denounced his antisemitism 12 years ago; that his involvement with the Million Man March had nothing to do with antisemitism and there is no record of him ever saying anything antisemitic; that he now has strong support from Jewish leaders; that he is deputy DNC chairman because he lost the election for chairman; and most importantly that he is not a self-obsessed demagogue who uses bigotry and outrageous lies to stoke fear and resentment to win votes because winning is the only thing that matters to him.

Oh, and Ellison didn't "get a pass on antisemitism" -- that's why he denounced Farrakhan, whether or not you believe he was sincere. In the end, The Federalist article couldn't even make its lame whatabout deflection without lying. Trump has turned the "conservative movement" into a cesspool of shameless deceit and hypocrisy.

I am pretty sure that denying employment in a government department to someone based on their political beliefs is a violation of their civil rights. As Governmental Bodies, LE and ICE have to follow the 1st Amendment and as long as the person's beliefs and speech doesn't prevent them from doing the job...

expression opinion is one thing.
Having contact with groups on the FBI Watchlist is another.

1st amendment also covers freedom of association. Unless you can prove that they have committed a crime...

I seriously hope this is overstated. Surely you must be able to argue that a person with racist views will not be able to perform a job such as ICE-operative or police officer? It's not about political views. It's about views on protected classes.

As long as they perform their job to the SOPs and the performance required it shouldn't matter what views they hold.

It can be assumed that they will not perform their job to the SOP if they are racist. That's kind of obvious.

When we employ law enforcement officers in Sweden each and every one of them are questioned on values that pertain to human rights and equality.

It's not about the rights of the individual cop or government agent. It's about the rights of the people that cop or agent will bring government authority to.

I don't think you can make that assumption, many people are able to put their personal beliefs and views to one side and act professionally.

But this is the point, you can't just assume it.

And if they came out and clearly showed that they would be unable to act effectively as a LEO or an ICE because of their beliefs, then you could prevent them because they were not able to do the job correctly, but you can't just assume that they can't do it according to protocols.

I don't think you can make that assumption, many people are able to put their personal beliefs and views to one side and act professionally.

The consequences of them not being able to separate them are far too great to risk putting such people in those kinds of positions.

I mean, this is fairly obvious and has shown itself to be true again and again.
