I had somehow missed it completely, then. If it was a intentional distraction, it would likely be as one of the the distractions from the crashing stock market. On the other hand, Trump tweeting the denial from an iPhone, as has been claimed, would make the denial so much less plausible.

Either way, I don't expect that many Republicans would care or believe it, even if Trump directly admitted to it.

Definitely not yet. There are certainly concerning warning signs, but we're pretty far from actual civil war still, I think. More likely would be a sudden right-wing coup of Washington, which, by and large, the people of this country would be helpless to react to before they could consolidate power. Again, I don't think that we're there... yet. We're far, far closer than we should be, though.

I said nothing about war. We are in conflict. Conflicts are not won by half measures. I would be very happy if we could go back to the days of civil political discourse. Right now though we need to first bring Trump to heel in the mid-terms and remove him in 2020 and for that the full scope of legal means are on the table.

I forget who posted it but someone here observed that we are in a cold civil war. That about sums up our situation nicely and defines how we should behave.

I think it will be more a rising level of political violence that spirals out of control.
 
Trump now pushing for actual populist or progressive policies?

Seems to me that Trump is really woried about losing the House given that he is pulling populist proposals out of his ass. A week ago he asked for a 10 percent middle class tax cut. Granted, it has no support and Congress isn't in session.

But today he's blaming other countries for the high price of drugs in the US. But if he wants someone to blame, he needs to look no further than the US Congress. Specifically the GOP although some bought and paid for Democrats have also been involved. They have been protecting the drug companies from day one.

When the Medicare Prescription drug program was enacted under W, the Democrats pushed to allow the Federal government to negotiate for bulk prices. This would have saved the country billions each year as well consumers. But the Republicans and George W prevented it.

I'll believe this when I see it. He'll have no problem probably getting the Dems to go along unless there is some poison pill. But my guess is it will be a non-starter with the Republicans.

I actually doubt there would be an out and out coup. I think the electorial system being so corrupted that an opposition win would be impossible is a much more likely scenario for a slide into Authoratarnsim.

I was thinking about how he felt insulted and inferior to Obama, and then "beat" him by managing to win the election. Obviously I could have put that into words far better, but obviously my mind was elsewhere.

Yep. But the US benefitted big time from that. If Napoleon hadn't seized power the US would likely be a far different country today.

100,000 people wanted tickets to the Houston rally.
16,000 out of 18,000 seats filled - the campaign says the Secret Service made them leave the others empty.
15,000 people outside, not nearly all of them tailgating, most milling about looking Trumpy with their goofy hats.

100,000 committed. 31,000 show up. Sounds about right.

Oh, and Barrack Obama filled that arena in 2008. Someone send pictures to Donnie.
 
It's par for the course for Politicians to promise to do to things once elected that they'll never do.
Trump is promising to do things before an election that he'll never do.
His voters are a special kind of stupid.
 
Not stupid as much as isolated in their little "msm is fake news!11" bubble, in which they never hear such news as "Congress is out and can't agree to tax cuts, so Trump is full of ****".
