One party grabs the credit cards and goes wild leaving the other party to pay the bill. The GOP loosens the laws that allows the rich to prey on the poor in the guise of deregulation. 'We're just trying to be more efficient.' Yeah, at ripping the country off.

Yeah. Wow. Trump is calling the migrant caravan a threat to national security. All those women and children sure are frightening. If he thinks they are a threat to national security, he needs to lift up his skirt and find his balls. I know there's a lot of blubber he'll need to shift to get to where his testicles should be. Maybe Stormy would be willing to help him.

Indeed. For Trump, and to a lesser degree the broader Republican/Right/Conservative demographic, to change he's going to have to lose in a way that matters to him.

Trump's mind probably sees the last few years as a non-stop series of wins.

On the one hand, they avoided being distracted by a “shiny thing” Trump threw out there. Good on them.

On the other hand, is it not newsworthy when the President mocks and literally endorses attacks on reporters?

Ehh... It's noteworthy, but it's also really par for the course. This is just part of the normalization of evil that most of us could see coming a mile away, though.

I think that there are a lot of Republican voters who don't personally agree with those tactics, but I think very few feel particularly strongly about it. The Tea Party movement showed us how Republicans react when they have a serious problem with how their elected officials behave. Nothing like that is happening now because they aren't really outraged at how the party is behaving even if it's not exactly what they'd prefer on every issue.

Apparently, being in power - in control of the the executive and legislative branches (leave aside the courts for now) - creates a lot more tolerance for tactics that might otherwise have consequences, and certainly would have consequences of the Dems did them.
 
Trump administration ponders move to make it legal to discriminate against parents that are Jewish, Christian, Muslim, LGBT, or whatever else the wannabe discriminators feel like claiming

South Carolina is lobbying the Trump administration to allow it to use the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in order to allow “faith-based foster care agencies” the power to discriminate against Jewish parents, Muslim parents, LGBT parents. According to the Intercept, the Trump administration is seriously considering this mauling of civil rights by way of a religious exemption, not that much different than the ones businesses have been using to screw their employees out of robust women’s healthcare insurance.

If granted, the exemption would allow Miracle Hill Ministries, a Protestant social service agency working in the state’s northwest region, to continue receiving federal dollars while “recruiting Christian foster families,” which it has been doing since 1988, according to its website. That discrimination would apply not just to Jewish parents, but also to parents who are Muslim, Catholic, Unitarian, atheist, agnostic or other some other non-Protestant Christian denomination.

And this goes back to the old and interesting dilemma of whether it's actually better to never allow federally funded discrimination or to federally fund discriminators as a matter of expedience to address needs. Personally, I would generally prefer to see such discrimination phased out completely, but I can see valid arguments to delay that or temporarily allow businesses to engage in such discrimination if the needs wouldn't be met without it or would be met distinctly less well.

Trump blocked plan to move FBI headquarters—likely because he didn't want a competing hotel on the site.

...That sums it up nicely, really. That sure sounds like corruption to me.

The House failed to pass an immigration bill because congressmen from farm states refused to go along with a requirement that all employers must use the e-Verify database to ascertain legal status to work. This was a division straight through the Republican ranks. Democrats had nothing to do with it.

And also - he thinks writing up crucial legislation that affects millions of people should only take an hour? :eye-poppi. Preferably in words of one syllable so that he'll understand. A good first step would be national biometric ID, but good luck with that.

One polling station for 13,000 people is (and I use this word advisedly) obscene.

The first one - the US really needs an independent Electoral Commission akin to the UK's (or other country that wants elections to be seen as free and fair).

There are guidelines on how many people polling stations should serve. It works and is transparent. Elsewhere on this forum, I have linked to the guidelines.
