Woo of the Week

Any evolutionary change which has been observed is dismissed as "microevolution". Any change which has yet to be observed is labeled "macroevolution" and asserted to be impossible.

We could verify such a mutation... therefore, it's only "microevolution". So sayeth the Creationists.
I'm considering trading in my car for a set of Creationist goal posts. As much as they move, they must get good gas mileage.

Oh yes, and homoeopaths lost virtually none of their patients during the 1919 flu epidemic. With no documentary evidence to back up that quote why am I not surprised.
I'd be willing to bet that they only lost about 2% of their flu patients. ;)

I've just gone back to the link from my OP after reading Rolfe's post. They really are wheeling all the nutters out on his one. Wow!

I've not frequented the hom boards much recently. Dealing with them in the abstract, it's easy to forget that they're not just wrong about homeopathy. A lot of them are that special kind of stupid-crazy that means they believe any paranoid nonsense.

forgive me if I'm getting my sCAMs mixed up here, but I though that traditional homeopaths didn't belive in pilogical agenst causing diseases, i thaught that they velievd in doisturbances in "vital essence" or soem such nonsence.

why all the talk abbout recerating strands of flu or flu evolving?

I tried to regester to ask them, but theri system wont let me. I don't knoe why, im not even that muck of a sceptic :D.

I dunno. The birds spread bad ki that was created by corporate greed?

I second that nomination. If for no other reason that anyone who will willingly call themselves "Prophetess" {fill in the blank} MD is a wacko of a different stripe. THEN to start your "medical" site off with a bibilical quote and an assertation that illness is caused by UNFORGIVENESS???:jaw-dropp

From the link in the OP;

"In my experience, the acute ability of homeopathy is much neglected in the homeopathic schools and in many practices to our own detriment. It is the area where we can most easily show what we can do. It's pretty hard to argue for placebo effect when a fever of 105 is reduced in a matter of 10 mins and the previously delerious patient opens their eyes and asks for a drink. Spontaneous remission maybe? Coincidence? Well not time and time again in exactly the same circumstances etc etc ad nauseum! :)

Funny how it never happens when there is someone standing by with a clipboard and some placebo controls.

Weird, huh!

This is where you get it wrong, placebos are actually highly potent homeopathic substances. I mean, there is no chance of any of the placebos containing any trace of eth homeopathic "remedy", therefore they must be stronger than the "real" homeopathic remedies, as these have at least some chance of containing traces of the original tincture, no matter how small. And as we all know, the less likely it is that a preparation has any trace of the original remedy in it, the stringer the homeopathic "effect". :))

I see the woos have now settled on panicking that they are more afraid of the vaccine than of the disease. And decided that when a really virulent strain of the virus emerges, this will be because of the vaccine.

Oh yes, and homoeopaths lost virtually none of their patients during the 1919 flu epidemic. With no documentary evidence to back up that quote why am I not surprised.
Remember this nonsense?

Plus ca change... :rolleyes:

It is always worth watching the antics of the homeopaths on their home turf. This week's nominee is an old favourite- Leela, for this, quite spectacular display of rudeness;

Poor bloke was only asking a question.

But a close second is this one;

It's not a new thread, but funny enough to be worth bringing it up from obscurity. Oh, the evils of mastrubation [sic]! And watch out for those lesbians they don't seem to be able to stop themselves.

This, folks, is what passes for medicine in the world of woo.

Since she seems to be in the UK, doesn't the "cascade" thingy affect her?
Sure, and she can ignore it and not be censured just the same way they all do. One day we may persuade our regulatory bodies to get their heads out of the sand. Maybe.

Rolfe.
