You think Kavanaugh was responsible for himself while at private school Gerorgetown Prep, going to parties, beach week and Yale or was it the legacy he was born into? How many teenagers do you know who can afford the $56,665 annual tuition at Georgetown Prep which is more expensive then Yale which is $47,600.

Yale was only about $6,000 in 1980 (so a bit higher when Kav went there). Thats about 18k in today's dollars. Not quite so exclusive back then. I mean most state schools are more than that now.

I don't see any secular reason why abortion should be banned. This makes me angry because I hate when self righteous hypocrites try to ram their religion down my throat.

How does any argument to ban abortion not cross the separation of church and state line?

Is abortion actually banned in the bible, is it even mentioned? I'm atheist and I'm pro-choice up to a point, but I don't think abortions in the 3rd trimester should be allowed barring health risks to the mother or if the fetus is just going to live a short painful life after birth. Someone else could decide its wrong in the 2nd trimester for completely non-religious reasons.

And we're all having this discussion on magical machines that make finding any example you want easy.

Education.

How many get an education in personal finance? Do they get tought Dave Ramsey style finance? Do they have a network of family members and personal contacts, mentors and positive role models?

Many of those who are born into poverty don't get any of that. Some at lucky and figure it out or latch on to someone who can show them the ropes. Most do not. Many don't even have a stable home or neighborhood to facilitate such personal growth.

They didn't have to do any of that to get a job. They made the choice to get in school, and take those loans, to get a degree in order to have a better opportunity at getting a better job. Period. You do not need any of that to get a job and earn a living or support a family. You do need to work hard, and to try. You cannot be lazy and entitled. (with either of those situations)

Growing up this way made me spend money in much different ways than most. For instance. I buy all my cars with money I save up before hand. I do not leave any balance on credit cards.

These things alone save me a ton of money. Trying to say that its impossible to get by in life without the things you listed, is beyond ridiculous. There are many out there like myself. It's called don't expect the government to take care of you. Take care of yourself, and your family. Meanwhile, theres people here expecting free birth control and or other handouts for optional activities in life. The entitlement attitude of some here is... scary, and sad.

I think you're conning yourself and everyone else. I find it difficult to believe that anyone who experienced a hard scrabble life and got ahead didn't thank their lucky stars that got out of that hard kind of life.

I never got a loan either and i was always living on a knife's edge trying to finish school. Not enough money for rent, not enough money for the bus, not enough money for food. Especially after I paid for tuition. All it took was one minor setback and I couldn't afford the next quarter's tuition which happened 3 separate times. Life is cruel especially when you don't have a buffer between you and the wolf. I want to puke when i hear that bull crap that people spout when they said they did it on their own.

Hell, even Kavanaugh did it when he said he got into Yale on his own.

Hell, the tuition I paid at the UW (state school) is affordable compared to what it is now. And I'm talking inflation adjusted dollars and I couldn't afford it then.

No you haven't. I hear about this on mainstream news media, specifically NPR, nearly every day on my work commute. ICE is not only picking up illegal immigrants, they've started picking up legal immigrants and treating them as illegal. There are even cases where born-and-raised citizens are being harassed and the validity of their identification denied, because they're the wrong colour and ethnicity. The situation is getting badly out of hand, which is exactly how Trump and the GOP want it.

You know where the overwhelming majority of these detained immigrants are ending up? For-profit prisons. You know who is heavily invested in the corporations that run these for-profit prisons? Trump and ranking members of the GOP. You know what happens to these detained immigrants? They are forced to work for other corporations while their "wages" are almost entirely retained by the prisons, and they are paid pennies on the dollar for their labour.

Trump and the GOP are effectively creating a de facto slave work force, and there's little to nothing being done about it.

Its not. Not even close. Although religious people use modern day science and Moses commandments to say it is.

That was ages ago, in Trumpian time. Also, it barely failed getting repealed.

And it didn't fail because there was anyone in the GOP who liked Obamacare, it failed because the hardline conservatives wanted to create their own version with less protections for pre-existing conditions and less availability for poor people, and the extremist anarcho-capitalists who didn't want to pay for any of it, but wanted the entire thing scrapped and privatized.

It didn't fail because of an internal schism between those who wanted to screw the people in the favour of the rich, and those who wanted to protect the people and provided a safety net; it failed because they couldn't agree on how badly they wanted to screw the people.

That's not really clear. The punishment for murder is death, but not for causing the end of a pregnancy. It's just a fine. There are other passages. That's another thing. If God is all knowing and wise, don't you think he would have made this clear?

There are consequences for each action you take in life. Perhaps people should give up the idea of "gimme mah free stuff" and purchase the goods and services they require. Capitalism. It's not for the lazy.

People that are able to work, should. No exceptions.
