Correct, it is.
While the pedantic nitpickers amount us insist that "Hoist with his own petard" is the original correct phrase, spoken by Hamlet, William Shakespeare, the reality is that languages evolves, and English is no exception.

Did you miss this one?

Of course I get that archaic phrases change, and are accepted, naturally by misuse, and i'm trying to grow out of my irritation with that.

You've seen how things have gone with an actual victim testifying, how do you think an anonymous accusation would have played out?

Someone may have investigated sooner and proved or disproved it long before now.

"The victim" has no info, doesn't remember much and all the people she named denied any knowledge of an incident.

Where do you think an FBI investigation is gonna lead ?

I find that rather ironic that you would claim that was a 'good thing' considering I think it was you that was complaining about overpopulation. Sounds to me we'd be better off delaying pregnancy if you wanted to limit population growth.

...

If we need to reduce human overpopulation then some genetic lines will end up ending.

Allow me to help you understand where I'm coming from here:

I would like to see certain types of people have much higher birth rates than they do now, and other types have much lower birth rates than they do now.

Ford, like Feinstein, could tell that there was next to no chance to stop Kavanaugh, and trying to stop it with this reveal would certainly cause great trouble for Ford and probably not change anything. So there was no plan to move forward.
Only when journalists found out about it did Ford decided to get it over with instead of staying silent.
You are wrong.

When asked, Ford stated that she didn't know who released the letter.
She didn't heroically jump on the grenade. Her info was "leaked."
Not sure why you think the other poster is wrong. He didn't claim Ford leaked the letter.

And yes, she did heroically "jump on the grenade". She could have stayed silent or just released a statement saying "the letter says everything I want". She could have withdrawn her accusation. But she didn't. Instead, she traveled to Washington to testify at a hearing where she would be grilled by a bunch of rapist-apologists, leaving herself open to harassment and ridicule.

My question involved the timing of this "leak."

If from July to Sept no Democrat thought it was worth investigating, even on their own to people who would corroborate Ford's story so they would have ammo, then why is it so important now ?
Ford wanted to remain anonymous. Likely she may have thought her letter would provide guidance for where the investigation should look and it wasn't until later that people realized just how little the republicans care about women getting raped.

The second-ranking Republican in the Senate said Friday that the GOP would delay a vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to allow for an FBI probe.

"There's going to be a supplemental FBI background investigation" Majority Whip Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said Friday. He said it would last no longer than a week.

Linky.

Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) have both publicly backed Sen. Jeff Flake’s (R-AZ) earlier calls for a one-week delay on Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote to allow for an FBI investigation.

Linky.

I'm a continual pessimist and see this as providing cover for the GOP (an Manchin). They are giving all the due process they can, and the Democrats wanted this so much. So they can give it, decide it is still too inconclusive, and then still vote him in.

It will lead to delaying the confirmation, which is the whole purpose of this make-believe scandal.

So basically you're just against too many not white people.

Will the FBI also be looking at the other allegations? Judge has said he will cooperate with any scope of investigation, as long as it is confidential.

She wasn't raped champ.
Try and keep with the so called facts.

Klobuchar later said of the exchange in an interview with CBS News on Friday that if she “was in his courtroom and acted like that, he would have thrown me out.”

She went on to say that though she appreciated the judge’s apology, he “didn't really answer the question. And what I was trying to get at was that you have this incredibly convincing testimony in the morning from Dr. Ford."

"For me, it is not that people don't drink in high school, it's, is he telling the truth?" she added.

Linky.

The Judiciary Committee is requesting the White House instruct the FBI to investigate. The scope:

"The supplemental FBI background investigation would be limited to current credible allegations against the nominee and must be completed no later than one week from today."

Linky.

First of all, its a pretty irrelevant distinction. The preponderance of evidence suggests that he TRIED to rape her, and failed. I don't really know if I'd characterize that as really any better.

Is that really the type of detail you want to harp on? "Oh, he's not a rapist! He's only an attempted rapist! Lets put him on the supreme court".

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Sideshow Bob is saying: "Attempted murder," now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for "attempted chemistry?"

Secondly, even if FORD wasn't raped, some of the incidents that Kavanaugh has been accused of being involved with probably would be classified as "rape". While Ford wasn't involved with those incidents and couldn't speak about them, a proper investigation would probably probe them. (Of course the republicans worked to avoid having a proper investigation about those events too.)

Seems like the FBI would need a week just to determine which allegations were credible enough to warrant an investigation.

And would it really matter? Say the White House complies, and the FBI spends the next week investigating. At the end of the week, they've uncovered nothing conclusive. What happens then?

Do the Never-Kavanaughs pack up their bags and go home? Does anyone actually say, "all I wanted was for the FBI to investigate. Now they've done that, and I'm satisfied."? Do we all agree that in the absence of any negative result after a whole week of investigation, Kavanaugh should indeed be confirmed to the Supreme Court?
