Is that the right standard here?

It is not a question of whether or not there is a law here, it is how desirable it is to have someone with such a dubious background on the Supreme Court. And by "dubious", I mean there seems to be credible reason for thinking that an investigation should be conducted.

there was an investigation conducted. the two principals testified under oath, and the three other people identified by the accuser were interviewed and provided statements, Kavanaugh provided his contemporaneous diary/calendar, the accuser provided therapists notes from 2012.

Whatever it takes to ban abortion and contraceptives.

I have no idea of Kavanaugh did the things he is accused of.

Maybe, maybe not.

If he did, it would appear that he was an idiot when drinking while young. This validates my lifelong choice to never become intoxicated by any means. That choice has served me well.

Since it doesn't seem to be able to be proven that he did these things, I think he should get the benefit of the doubt and things should proceed as though these accusations hadn't surfaced. It would be a different matter if they could have been shown to be true.

Well, how do you get a shot at showing them to be true if you don't investigate?

...by people not qualified to conduct an investigation using a method not conducive to good investigation.

An appeal to this process as qualifying as a legitimate investigation is not reasonable.

I firmly believe that the progressive agenda spells total destruction for the civilized world. Not a doubt in my mind about that.

Then you are holding an insane belief. Do you think that they meet in closed rooms and plot the destruction of the world? Or perhaps that they have ideas radically opposed to yours but which, in their mind, will actually improve the world?

I used to be quite a partisan democrat and Obama/Gore lover. Big Clinton fan too. I attended his second inauguration and enjoyed that.

The Republicans have all sorts of faults too, but at least they make half-hearted efforts at upholding some of the pillars of what makes a society function.

...while at the same time ignoring the thing that's going to kill most or all humans if left unchecked. Which threat is greater?

The left is just chaos. Ever-increasing chaos.

What are you babbling about? Social services and sound economic policies aren't chaos. They're the opposite of chaos.

That Kavanaugh assaulted Ford is unproven. That he lied several times yesterday seems pretty clear.

Should people who lie under oath be rewarded with a SCOTUS nomination?

The judiciary committee has staff lawyers that are fully licensed and fully qualified to conduct the investigation, indeed both sides have staff counsel who undertake to investigate (of course here, the democrats refused to participate because of course)

the questioning was lead by a career sex crimes prosecutor.

So, gonna go right ahead and disagree,

Should people who lie to under oath be a SC justice?

It shows he will lie and cheat for partisan gain which is what they want from a justice.

if it upsets the libs/leftists/porgs/dems then it's all a-ok! that's the goal

I’m glad they get so much enjoyment out of it. Here, as out in the real world, there are multiple posters here who really don’t seem to give a damn about this country, as long as they are “owning the libs“ or upsetting the leftists or whatever.

I don’t think they’re taking into account, however, a lot of other people; including - but by no means limited to - people like me, a middle-aged, straight, white, Christian man (married, faithfully, to one woman, unlike so many of their idols), who’s not a Democrat, and who’s deeply angry about the willful destruction of our country by these corrupt, hypocritical quislings.

They may very well win the battle of selecting a serial perjurer, apparent blackout drunk, and quite possible sexual predator to SCOTUS in order to protect Trump, but the long-term cost in driving away people like me has yet to be calculated. And when I say “driving away”, I mean I will never vote for a Republican again, and I’m now highly motivated to not just vote, but actively work against them at every level. Well, that’s owning the libs.

So clear that you will be able to provide to us examples?

The calculation is that they won't need you anymore. They can keep control of the country with a shrinking minority of votes because of control of SCOTUS and increasingly aggressive voter suppression and intimidation efforts and gerrymandering. You're witnessing the final moves in a slow moving coup d'etat.

.......the questioning was lead [sic] by a career sex crimes prosecutor........

Who said herself that the process wasn't the right way to deal with an accusation of sexual assault/ attempted rape. But no, you carry on being selective in what you hear.
