Cont: The Trump Presidency IX: Nein, Nein!

It's amazing how much less bad Trump can sound if he sticks to a script.
He reminds me of stories I've read about Tourette's. There are people who are capable of suppressing their tics - including a surgeon - but after such times they then proceed to rapidly fire through their complete set of tics. Trump's best off-the-rails rants seem to come close on the heels of any prepared speech.

Today he's scheduled for a solo news conference. Not sure if it's unprecedented for this admin or just rare. I for one can not wait!
It was on the radio (PBS) while I was doing something else so it got left on too long. I got more and more disgusted that the radio and TV were just letting that man lie and lie and lie, telling the world reality that is Trump. I finally got to a stopping place and turned it off. It could have been called The Gaslight Show, staring Drumpf as Trump.

Trump is now claiming that China is meddling in the 2018 elections against the Republicans.
He is up to his old tricks of de-legitimizing a vote he expects to lose.
And tossing out squirrels so people stop looking toward Russian election interference.

I think really does believe his own lies. An interesting experiment would be to hook him up to a polygraph and see how he does.

In front of the ******** United Nations. Big Baby Tossing Toys Out of Pram act. Really? And the Republican sycophants like Newt and Lindsey are just lining up to praise him! (Both are looking for positions in a reshuffled Loyal Orange cabinet*.)

Waaah, the Chinese put tariffs on us after I put tariffs on them and they're hurting some of my bought off supporters. Yeah, like in Seattle and Silicone Valley and in SBE manufacturing centers in Austin and Boston.

What an idiot! Russia, they didn't meddle because Pooty Wooty told me they didn't. China follows my own playbook and puts the hurt on my flyover votes so they're guilty of election-meddling.

Write off the UN. He'll do a WTO "it's worthless and we're pulling out" any day, now. I think he needs another trip to like Bahrein and Kuwait where they don't broke protesters and can do another sword dance for him. He obviously doesn't like groups that don't agree with him (G8, NATO, WTO, UN).

*When he gets rid of those TINOs (Trumpistas in Name Only).

Trump's comments came after Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said in an interview earlier Wednesday that those in attendance were laughing because they "loved his honesty" and stressed that the diplomatic community respects the president.
:jaw-dropp

OMG!

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern (neither of which names my spellchecker approved of, I have chastised it accordingly) was a guest on Colbert this evening.

He asked her about Trump's U.N. speech, which she had been present for, and (being somewhat diplomatic, I suppose) said they were laughing at him for the first part ... the over-the-top braggadocio ... but with him when he said that that hadn't come off quite the way he had planned.

I listened to/watched Theresa May's speech at the UN and was quite impressed. trump is unlikely to have completely understood how much it was pointed at him.

trump's full speech transcript here.
May's full speech transcript here.

Or, it’s an ingrained tactic to always assert that which you wish to be true.

For instance, that he won the women’s vote. He asserts that he did. Repeatedly. In spite of the fact it’s demonstrably not true.

It’s an odd tactic, but appears not to have had much of a downside to this point. One might even say it’s helped elevate him to where he is today. But if he ever finds himself testifying under oath, the same tactic may not work as well.

I think it's more about the fact that he can't admit the truth. It's too embarrassing to simply do nothing so admitting the truth is of course completely out of the question. He has to save face somehow even if no one could possibly fall for that lie.

The only fair thing is to have Putin and Xi arm-wrestle: the winner gets to pick the next US government.

Unnecessary. They’d both choose Trump & Co., the Sequel, because no one else could do a better job of destroying the United States for them.

Full text from the trump press conference in case i've forgotten about it having been posted already.
It's difficult to read, but it was worse to watch and listen to.

It is beyond satire, it is beyond belief. But one thing I did agree with Trump - "And I was saying things that nobody in the room even understood."
