Split Thread Conservative Voices (Split from Muller Investigation)

That’s a broad brush you’re sweeping with.

It’s my experience that whenever someone tries to describe what the “other side” believes, they usually resort to simplistic straw man arguments.

My advice is to tell people what you believe and ask people what they believe. Once they tell you their thoughts, follow up based on the answers they give you.

Trying to sum up what a political persuasion is “all about” says more about the lens one sees through than it reveals the truth regarding that persuasion.

This is so true. River desperately wants to put words in everyone's mouths.

Yeah, I feel ya'. I feel very " Jesus, people" over the whole thing, too, seeing those pictures. But I also kind of...I dunno...wonder if maybe *I'm* the one missing something? Like, is there a point they have that's going right over my head? lol Probably not, but I don't really care enough to hunt them down and ask.

Nope. You're not missing anything. Every cause has its extremists whether to the right or the left. The truth is, most people are somewhere in the middle.

Would you be more apt to have a serious conversation about something with someone in a pussy suit, or a business suit? Or someone screaming nude at the top of their lungs at you? I do not disagree AT ALL with their protest, but do think the form or style of protest does not denote a serious tone, nor does it help people take the issue seriously. Opinions will vary.

The protest isn't where you have the "serious conversation", nor would every one of the protesters be someone to have a serious conversation with.

The protest is to make a statement that people care deeply about the issue in a way that gets media attention, and towards that goal vagina cosumes (or penis costumes) could be very constructive.

Do you deny the forum/members have a left lean?

I think the forum has a bias towards facts and reason, and the right has been moving away from facts and reason for a few decades now. Therefore, at this point in history, facts and reason support leftist points of view way more than right-wing points of view.

That this trend has reached something of a crescendo over the past two years is the fault of conservatives for having chosen Donald Trump as their ideological representative.

To Trumpsters, anything and anyone they disagree with is a leftie.

This is why they claim this forum is left leaning. Their heads are tilted to the right so hard that the entire world leans left to them.

I have to agree with River on this one. As a woman, a feminist, and a "leftie", I think the vagina costumes do women no favor. They look silly and make the women wearing them look like a bunch of extremist whack jobs. I understand the concept of bringing attention to the subject, but this is not the way to do it. Personally, I think it demeans a serious problem and invites derision.

They may look silly, but they look no more silly than utter morons with golf shirts and tiki torches.

Or how about these lovely swedish neo-nazis?

With people like these freely roaming the streets, women in silly pussy costumes are the least of our problems.

I deny it. If anything, I find the overall lean of the membership of this forum is slightly right of centre; like me.

Do not mistake people who oppose Trump as being necessarily Liberal. It is not automatically true. I'm no liberal; if he had run on a Democratic ticket, and won, I'd still despise him.

Now, why do I despise Trump? Because I oppose everything he represents;

1. Racism
2. White nationalism and white supremacy
3. Religious bigotry
4. Misogyny
5. Homophobia
6. Climate change denial

The fact you'd say Trump represents this tells me a lot more. It's fine if you want to label others. Even myself. However the truth is I'm a conservative libertarian that is fairly moderate. My views do lean to the right, but also left on some issues. You don't have to take my word for it. My voting history and public interactions and associations speak a lot louder than someone on a forum that judges from the above perspective on things.

I don't know if it is authoritarianism that makes it impossible for some people to critically evaluate the President (unless he's black, of course), or a misguided sense of "fair and balanced", i.e. there is always two sides to every story.

If you had asked any American five years ago if they wanted to be represented by a person who publicly lies 5,000 times in less than two years of his Presidency, there would have been only one answer: no.
For some reason, that answer is now "yes, but" for way too many people.

Is it just me, or does "conservative libertarian" sound like an oxymoron?

Right but it does not give any question boxes or ways to distinguish what text you would like for the poll options. Only a number of poll options. When previewing this, after selecting poll with a number of options, you still have no fields to specify as poll options or vote buttons or options.

It's done in stages. I do the TLA/Pith polls every month. First you create your question, in which it is a good idea to itemize the options and the procedure.

Describe the poll and the intent. Titles can be misleading and with this lot even if they're not, someone will argue that the thread title/poll title are not clear.

When you get to the point you're ready to submit, you simply click the radio button that asks if you wish to include a poll. You then choose the number of options (max. 20). It will post your new thread but you are then taken to the poll creation screen. You have to give the poll a title. You then fill in all the options you've given in your OP. At the bottom of the poll it asks you if you want to make it multiple choice, if you want voters choices visible (it doesn't tell you but that's visible to members only BEFORE they vote), and an expiry date for the poll.

Suggestion: We've had similar polls and if you limit it to simple broad terms you will get more argument than response. Are you "Fascist >> Monarchist >> Reactionary >> Conservative >> Libertarian >> Moderate >> Liberal >> Progressive >> Socialist >> Fringe Left Crazy would seem to cover a lot of territory, but I can bet that the first or second response is "well, I can't answer because I'm socially progressive but fiscally moderate to conservative".

You can manage some of that in your OP. "Look, Bob, we know the choices are limited but somewhere in those ten items you should be able to pick the one closest to you. If not, there's always the 11th choice."

The 11th choice is always (except in the language awards) Planet X. You can say Planet X Don't Know, Don't Care, Not Willing to Say. But make it Planet X because it's an old meme and people will complain and distract if you don't.

So far, I'm getting the problem with feminism is that some people protest in ways that the person doesn't like.
