And yet, Travis believe it ir not has a valid point. In Chicago, the police repeatedly berate folks in the gang infested neighborhoods to "break the code of silence" and help nail the shooters. Yet they won't break their own "code of silence"? Don't tell me that folks in those neighborhoods haven't caught whiff of the hypocrisy there...

Because I wasn't responding to Travis. I was responding to acbytesla's division between "bad" cops and "good" cops, specifically to his characterization of "good" cops.

Sure, it was somewhat tangentially related to Travis' post, but only tangentially. The content of acbytesla's post was specifically germane to what I wrote. Travis' wasn't.

I'm surprised this concept is so difficult for you to grasp.
 
I don't get this whole controversy.

He sat out the national anthem as a form of protest against police shootings of black people. Justice for all and the right to peaceful protest are founding principles of this country for which veterans and non veterans have fought for.

Some found it offensive including another football player who was also a vet. So Kaepernick talks with this vet about what he can do because the point isn't to insult the anthem or vets. He suggests that instead of sitting, Kaepernick takes a knee because taking a knee is a sign of respect such as when praying or taking a knee at a soldiers grave.

Doesn't matter, outrage still ensues. It feels like a contrived controversy to play the patriotism card for political purposes and is pushed the most by our president who routinely disrespects veterans.

So now you've got people burning their house down from lighting their Nike shoes on fire and a mayor banning purchase of anything Nike for booster clubs and the city recreation facility.

I just don't get it.

I think a key point is he didn't sit out the national anthem. He participated by respectfully kneeling.

I don't believe Kaepernick fully conveyed this message prior to his protest so many people took it the wrong way.

Having a problem when someone shows contempt for you and you actually are in a position of power, is the height of being a thin skinned loser. I cannot post the comments we made about people like that in the navy.

Of course, now that I think about it, I did run into people like these modern cops...in boot camp. They went into the bad navy while some of us went into the cool navy.

Reminds me of when I had guys working for me in the Boiler Controls Shop who had a bumper sticker inside their door that said "Bosses are like diapers, full of **** and all over your ass". I pretty much laughed it off. That said, it isn't respectful to the police to wear those socks, but this is America: they don't HAVE to be respectful of anything. And to make you being respectful of an outside organization that you feel (right or wrong) is singling out people of your skin color for termination, should not be made a condition of employment, nor pushed at you by the President of the United States.
