Information on the shooter and the guns:

The suspect in a deadly shooting at a Florida video game tournament had previously been hospitalized for mental illness, according to court records in his home state of Maryland reviewed by The Associated Press.

Divorce filings from the parents of 24-year-old David Katz of Baltimore say that as an adolescent he was twice hospitalized in psychiatric facilities and that he was prescribed antipsychotic and antidepressant medications.

Federal law requires gun buyers to disclose whether they have ever been involuntarily committed to a mental institution. Maryland state law also prohibits the sale or transfer of a gun to someone who has been diagnosed with a mental disorder or who has a history of violent behavior.

In recent weeks, Katz legally purchased the two handguns he carried from a gun store in Baltimore, the sheriff said. One of the weapons was equipped with a laser sight that paints the intended target with a glowing red dot.

The sheriff said Katz may not have fired both weapons. He did not say whether Katz disclosed his past hospitalizations on the form for the required federal background check.

There was a lot of reported conflict with the mother, but the father was claiming the mother was making things up and he acted normally around him.

From less reliable sources, internet sleuths allege he has made a post using the term "Trumptards", but also used the term "autist" jokingly. I'm not going to link, but its not terribly convincing of anything in terms of politics/gamergate/SJW/etc.

Fake news. No one would ever lie on a form, especially if they intended to commit murder, because you cant buy a gun if you are not responsible, and if you do you got it from a gangster, not from a licenced dealer. there are forms to stop that. If headphones were banned and the good guys had a gun and shot this guy before ye even drew, none of this would have ever happened. We need more guns for good guy gamers. If there are any. We have been saying for years that video games lead to violent psychopaths. Just like D&D.

Not entirely irrelevant. Gamergate involved douchebags that played videogames. This shooting involved a douchebag that plays videogames. Seems like a connection to bring up to me.

It should have been enough to note that these "sleuths" included Mike Cernovich, Ian Miles Cheong, and Gateway Pundit, allcof who named Reddit user "ravenchamps"

"ravenchamps" held an AMA three hours ago to discuss the fact that his accusers are obviously stupid.

Some jerk with his personal feelings about gamers uses this as an excuse to bitch.


One of the gamers, (returning home to WA State), who was good friends with one of the deceased said he thought the shooter came there on a suicide mission and losing probably had nothing to do with it.

They are all acquainted with the shooter who was apparently very anti-social. They tried to talk to him but he always rebuffed other gamers. People that saw the shooter after he lost said he didn't appear to be the least bit angry about it.

Sorry folks but not one word about Gamergate came up. I can't see that has **** to do with it. The shooter has a history of mental illness. I know that's the go-to reason for white guys, but the shoe fits.

My impression is that the games that tend to arouse anger and outright violence aren't necessarily violent at all. Instead it's those games that are very competitive, difficult and potentially very frustrating especially if it's team based.

Having your teammate(s) rage because you do something bad (or even just something that they think is bad, even if it isn't) is pretty common even though there no good reason to get worked up and angry because that doesn't make things any better.

I see that the original Gateway Pundit story "disclosing" his identity has been completely purged of all references to the Reddit account, even though the "online profile" is still evoked in the headline and the details remain in the article's actual URL:

Its almost as if they are a biased propaganda source.
 
I would like to find out WHY these mass shootings are happening more and more often but you probably can't do political posturing about that.

If I were to hazard a guess, I would posit two underlying factors:

1. The increasing ease of committing such an attack, including the politically-guaranteed and -championed availability of the tools required, and

2. Increasing adulation of these acts and those who commit them within the particular subcultures to which those who most often commit them belong, or with which they identify. Yes, this is mostly a complaint about "rhetoric", although not limited exclusively to that.

California has some of the toughest laws in the USA on guns. But it is next to states who have lenient ones, no idea who has what gun and any old person can get one. All of Europe has roughly the same laws regarding guns, none is particularly lenient. No country in Europe has no idea who has the majority of the guns and where everyone, no matter who can find it easy to get one.

Hence even California, which has tried to reduce the damage, has got to just learn to live with the normal of mass shootings.
 
A black woman shot 3 people dead and injured 3 others before killing herself at her workplace in Aberdeen, Maryland. She appears to be transgender or a woman that looks like a man.

Of 168 stories on Google News when I checked, "transgender" appeared in two headlines, both from the Daily Mail.
