To Trump defenders.

I have a question for the Trump defenders.

In my view at least half of both Trump supporters and the opposition knows and has known the character of Donald Trump by at least the time of the election.

Few, if any are surprised by the probability that Trump has been unfaithful and disloyal to everyone in his life.

Few if any would be surprised by finding out that he has committed many many crimes in his career.

More surprising I think to everyone, would be the discovery that he hasn't. Now maybe I'm wrong. So I am curious.

Would your opinion of Trump change if you learned that Trump had been criminally evading taxes?

Would your opinion of Trump change if you learned that Trump had committed bank fraud?

Would your opinion of Trump change if you learned that Trump had been laundering money?

Would your opinion of Trump change if you learned that Trump had colluding with Russia to get elected?

Would any of these things make you turn against him?

If not any of this, what would it take?

The party that demands government to enforce mandatory christian prayer in schools, demands government to add christian creationist beliefs to science curriculums across the country, demands the government to interfere with womens' uteruses and their life choices, demands the government to forbid gay marriage, demands the government to add warning labels on music albums.... etc etc etc.
Well, hate to break a roll on a perfectly ranty rant, but the music label thing comes from Tipper Gore, wife of Democratic VP, and Pres candidate, Al Gore.
Yes and no. while Tipper Gore was probably the most famous person pushing for warning labels on music, she was not the only one. For example, Susan Baker (wife of republican/former Reagan chief of staff James Baker) and Sally Nevius (wife of a republican city councilman) were also involved.

Tipper Gore didn't actually start it though. She was a member and spokesperson for the Parents Music Resource Center... Otherwise known as: Won't-Anyone-Think-Of-The-Children™ ?!

But you make a valid point, both republicans and democrats seem to have their fair share of bible-thumping conservative mindsets... with the larger card-carrying membership belonging to the former.

Well, no matter who she brought on board, it looks like she really did start it.

But enough of the derail.

Not even the guy's death will stop them.

They'll just turn him into a saint, hang him from a cross, and preach his gospel to the unwashed masses for the next 2000 years.

I've lost all hope for the human condition with the election of this con-man. I expect to see Harvey Weinstein or Kim Kardashian to be the next "President Camacho" after Trump is finished with his time in office.

This election has set a new bar, folks... and it ain't pretty.

Huh, well I'll be damned.

I didn't know Tipper was the one that actually got the ball rolling. I just assumed she was the loudest screecher on the soapbox, hence the reason why she got all the attention.

I stand corrected.

Thanks for the info.

So, lets get this straight... Trump, the man who seems to have made deregulation and 'freedom' one of the central focuses of his presidency, wants the government (as personally directed) to step in and interfere with the affairs of a private company.

So, any republicans/Trump fans... please explain to me how republicans=freedom, and democrats=government interference.

I believe Roger Ramjets has the explanation. It's the only one that makes sense to me.

...

Let's not be hasty in our dismissal here... some of that proposal has appeal.
:D

Oh, I totally agree... the Republicans are far from the defenders of Freedom that they like to portray themselves as being (unless its the second amendment), and are more that willing to interfere with people's lives when they see fit.

I brought it up because:
- The right wing is the one that tries the hardest to wrap themselves up in the banner of 'freedom' (e.g. the "freedom caucus", "Freedom works/Tea party")
- Trump's attack on google is the most recent (and currently visible) attack on personal freedoms

It will be "interesting" if potentially terrifying to see how the courts will view the constitutionality of the Federal government mandating specific forms of political speech on a private platform. Even the original "equal time" rule once applied to the much more limited bandwidth of broadcast TV and radio is no longer. Although the Trumpification of the court system may well become sufficiently advanced to effectively kill the First Amendment for all but Hobby Lobby and commercial bakers who do not wish to provide cakes for gay or transgender folks.

Scary times. And proof of the Emerson quote, "The louder he talked of his honor the faster we counted our spoons."

I was shocked that this cretin won a single primary. I waa shocked that he won the nomination. I was shocked he won the general. Every day I am surprised that ANYONE would believe or admire or respect Trump in any way and yet many people are still in his corner.

I think there was plenty of evidence in November of 2016 that Trump was a horrible horrible human being and If anything, he has not only done absolutely nothing to make anyone think he's not, he has chiseled that he is in stone in case we might not be sure.

I don't think Trump will be reelected in 2016. I doubt he will be impeached but I can't imagine him winning again....My bet is that he won't run.

It will be arbitrated through the new Ministry of Truth.

Okay, now this is an unfair comparison we need to stop making. Unfair to President Camacho, I mean.

President Camacho, while admittedly being very stupid, grew up in a society where not being stupid was simply never an option. And yet, despite that, he still was able to realize that there were very many great problems facing his society - and that he was, personally, unable to come up with any solutions to those problems. But when a new person showed up, who was demonstrably smarter than anyone else in the world, President Camacho moved heaven and earth to find that guy, ask his advice, and then actually acted on that advice, even when the advice seemed stupid to President Camacho.

We should be so lucky as to have a President Camacho to get us out of this mess.

Have you not been paying attention? This is standard GOP hypocrisy 101: Freedom from government intrusion only applies to what the GOP folks want.

Everything liberal is subject to overt suppression.

More and more I think if the GOP "wins" the midterms byt 2020 this country will be in state of of upheavel that will make the 60's look mild in comparasion.
A lot of people will think that peaceful legal means of resistence are useless, and turn to other methods.

Especially if it looks possible votes were actually switched in some of those hackable paperless voting machines.

Except that nothing will be mandated, so there will be nothing requiring constitutional evaluation. It's not the game. The game is simply to throw feces to distract from the daily White House ****-ups. When it adds fuel to the "evil liberal media" fire, that's just a base-pleasing bonus.

Call me naïve, but I simply cannot imagine Trump remaining in office for eight years. The current situation is just too untenable for that.

And yes, I can easile see violence looming on the horizon :/ . A civil war, probably not. A wave of riots and isolated and not-so-isolated acts of violence? Wacky militia and prepper groups clashing with police and military? Not unlikely, unfortunately. Not that I'm an expert.
