I hates Alex Jones, but think he will probably walk on this one. Juries are reluctant to convict on defamation cases.

I would be too. Most defamation cases are a long shot.

This one though shouldn't be. Imagine the plaintiffs walking out picture after picture of 6 year olds in their class pictures and maybe images of them shot up bloody and lifeless followed up by clips from Alex Jones saying it was a hoax.

That a pig like Alex Jones is an ardent Trump supporter should have been a big red flag to anyone with more than half a brain.

The families got death threats from the Infowars crazies.

Even worse. Their addresses were recorded and their homes photographed and posted online. At least one family had to move. I hope the Sandy Hook parents can establish malice. A sizeable judgement against Jones might help restore some sanity.

This is the bizarre world we live in now. The president rants endlessly about Fake News but told Jones in an interview that he, Jones, was "doing a great job." Alex Jones?

The nightmare goes on and on. :(

Trump Tweets

"They asked my daughter Ivanka whether or not the media is the enemy of the people. She correctly said no. It is the FAKE NEWS, which is a large percentage of the media, that is the enemy of the people!"

To Trump, only FOX isn't 'fake'. All other media that dares actually report what he says and does and dares criticize it is 'fake'.

I'm hoping that the court awards 100 million dollars to the parents busting Alex Jones entirely. Interestingly, his ex-wife was at the courthouse supporting the plaintiffs. She had helped Jones launch Infowars and is ashamed that she did. She feels her presence is needed for amends.

The Walt Whitman bridge is so tall, one can see two thirds of the United States from it.
So I tell out of town guests when giving the obligatory Philly tour.

Do you tell them the same thing about the IKEA cafeteria windows across the road? 😀

"I poop, you clean up!"

Speaking of that... Florida's got a whole lot of dead things washing up on their beaches. Why?

Indications are that a major source of nutrients for these toxic events is animal waste from large commercial farms in the area. When the Trump EPA shot down the “Waters of the United States” regulation, it dropped much of the regulation of this waste. Earlier this year, then administrator Scott Pruitt cut back on rules requiring monitoring and treatment of agricultural waste water.

The combination of record heat and record waste results in record red tide—and an unprecedented level of death on Florida beaches. Rather than going on for just a few summer weeks, this red tide has been going for nine months … and it’s getting worse.

"Looting and polluting, that's the way! Hear what Captain Pruitt has to say!"

.

This is the problem. This is like a news story from the 1970s. Which is what led to these regulations being put in place. Liberal Democrats supported them and probably took the lead, but the legislation was crafted to solve specific problems. Conditions gradually began to improve and the Republicans took advantage of that and began to attack the programs for political reasons. Now we're going back to where we started.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a “state of emergency” because of red tide more than three weeks ago, but the situation continues to get worse. As the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports, the issue is potentially shifting Florida politics, where even GOP voters in some of the wealthiest areas are seeing “green slime” and dead marine life covering their seashore. In some areas, shorelines are lined with dead fish, and glowing green masses of algae are moving sluggishly in red waves. Link

It will cost the state of Florida a lot of money to do the cleanup. At some point someone will say, "What's causing this? Wouldn't it be cheaper to eliminate the cause rather than do endless cleanups?"

And history repeats itself.

155,965,000 Employed in June: 11th Record-Setter Under Trump

The Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics says a record 155,965,000 people were employed in July, the 11th record-breaker since President Trump took office 19 months ago.

BLS said the economy added 157,000 jobs in July.

The unemployment rate edged down to 3.9 percent, as the number of employed people reached new heights, and the number of unemployed persons declined.
