Legal commentators of all political opinions are ripping up Giuliani's statement as being incredibly inept, and something a first year law student would know better then to do.

"Right leaning American Fox News commentator, former 'hanging' judge and and Republican politician writes conspiracy book" shocker!

I used to wish Trump would just stop his insane tweeting. Now I'm glad he didn't. Give someone enough characters and they'll hang themselves.

I've never seen anyone so innocent act so incredibly guilty.

I posted this in January 2018, but similar comments were made long before.

Trump apologists are going to go from:
Russia played no role in the election -----> No collusion -----> Colluded with campaign officials but without Trump's knowledge. The end point is Trump collaborated, but it's not illegal.

and after that it will be -->But what about Benghazi, emails, and Uranium One?

Finally, someone who gets it! People who think muzzling Trump is a good idea should consider that this might be more dangerous that letting him vent - and a lot less entertaining...

I've never seen anyone so innocent act so incredibly guilty
But he is innocent. You see, Trump suffers from a debilitating mental condition called Narcissistic Personality Disorder which prevents him from acting rationally. Though this is a well-known occupational disease that people in this job often suffer from, mental health professionals would rather stick to outdated ethics rules than intervene on his behalf. Meanwhile various unscrupulous types such as the Russians, Republicans, 1%ers and other deplorables are taking advantage of his vulnerability to manipulate him into doing their bidding.

So let's not forget that Trump is the victim here. All those trolls who keep winding him up with talk of collusion, impeachment, pee tapes etc. should be ashamed of themselves, because they are contributing to his malady. And people who keep pointing out his lies are only making it worse. I fear* that if this continues Trump could be at serious risk of self-harm or worse.

Well whatever you do, don't listen to Giuliani's multiple versions. :sdl:

Seriously! I just sat through the CNN interview, not without event. I started once but got so dizzy I had to take a couple of Dramamine so set sail a second time. The dizziness went away but the nausea continued.

This slut is playing Trump's trumps. Their plan has pretty obviously been that Donnie came clean to Rudi, and Rudi rubbed his aging head and said, "well, we'll go with the reverse Chinese water torture" every time another of those lies gets caught out and they're going to call a new presser, we'll let it out ourselves and act totally surprised that they find rigging elections with the help of a foreign power to be a bad thing". And then when they get to the next point, we leak some tape and claim that it proves that we weren't really screwing the pooch in the Rose Garden in spite of everything they hear". Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Oh, and we'll make peace overtures to Iran! Yeah, our Islamophobic base is gonna love that. Everyone loves a peacemaker, amirite?

Did anyone see his tap dance about why Mueller should recuse himself.

"I can't tell you. I'm not sure exactly what the conflict is. I have a good idea of what it is -- it's one that would have kept me out of the investigation."

"It's up to the President to describe it in further detail if he elects to do so. Or if Mueller would like to explain why it's not a conflict, I invite Bob to do it."

And, in turn, I invite Mr. District Attorney to file that in court. "There's probably a conflict of interest because Donnie pulled it out of his paranoid subjective (and flabby) butt and I don't know what it is, your honor, but boy is it a conflict and he ought to come clean and just close down the investigation, yeah, that's the ticket, close it down completely."

Trump's legal team preparing a "counter-report" in response to the allegations Mueller will bring against Trump

I suppose the biggest question is - if Trump didn't do anything and the report is being written as we speak, then how will they know exactly what Mueller is going to allege he did? And if they don't know what Mueller is going to allege, how can they offer a counter-argument?

I guess it'll be a blanket denial along the lines of:

  • If the Mueller report makes reference to anything other than collusion with the Russians then that is beyond the scope of the investigation and should be ignored
  • President Trump had nothing to do with collusion with the Russians
  • Even if he did - it's not illegal so it's fine
  • Even if it is illegal, he's the President and so it's OK

I found the following quote from Squeegee Beckenheim's link illuminating:

“I have been sitting here looking in the federal code trying to find collusion as a crime,” Giuliani said on “Fox & Friends.”

“Collusion is not a crime,” he said.

Looks like he's confident that collusion will be proved and so the focus will be on demonstrating that it's fine....

"Collusion" is not a crime in and of itself, its just shorthand for "conspiracy to defraud the United States by impeding the proper functions of the Government", which IS a crime - 18 U.S.C. § 371

As Daniel Goldman, former Federal prosecutor says, if you have to say that every night on the news, people will change channels.

What we are seeing from the Trump sycophants squad at the moment is (at the risk of invoking Godwin) a Goebbelesque propaganda drive to get people to believe The Big Lie; that crimes are not crimes. They hope that by continuing to repeat The Big Lie, more people will come to believe it.

The BBC had an interesting documentary on iPlayer with Rich Hall in which he talked about former Presidents. When they were discussing Nixon they had a language expert who observed that people "tell us what they are, not what they aren't", I think this is very applicable to Trump, if you want to know what he's up to just listen to the accusations he throws at others.

Seth Abramson said:
"Collusion" is an incredibly broad non-legal term within which lie 24+ federal crimes, so by denying collusion Trump denies not only the 16 to 20 crimes many suspect he did and (as to some) Mueller is likely to prove he did, but also 4 to 8 he's already dead to rights on. Stupid.

Sounds like he ought to keep denying collusion, then.
