Since the goal of Russian interference was to weaken Clinton, it would be surprising if there hadn't been an effort to support Sanders; pretty foolish to pretend otherwise.

They promoted Jill Stein as well, even invited her to Moscow to sit at the table with Putin.

On another note, Sally Yates was on Rachel Maddow tonight and she said the POTUS might actually be compromised and we shouldn't discount that.

I'd be completely shocked to find out for sure that he wasn't compromised in some way. I'd guess they have all kinds of dirt on him, from underage girls to dirty financial dealings...
ETA:
He might be being blackmailed by numerous entities.

https://www.newyorker.com/news-desk/swamp-chronicles/a-theory-of-trump-kompromat

The scenario that, to my mind, makes the most sense of the given facts and requires the fewest fantastical leaps is that, a decade or so ago, Trump, naïve, covetous, and struggling for cash, may have laundered money for a business partner from the former Soviet Union or engaged in some other financial crime. This placed him, unawares, squarely within the sistema, where he remained, conducting business with other members of a handful of overlapping Central Asian networks. Had he never sought the Presidency, he may never have had to come to terms with these decisions. But, now, he is much like everyone else in sistema. He fears there is kompromat out there—maybe a lot of it—but he doesn’t know precisely what it is, who has it, or what might set them off.

Trump and many of his defenders have declared his businesses, including those in the former Soviet Union, to be off-limits to the Mueller investigation. They argue that the special counsel should focus only on the possibility of explicit acts of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. This neatly avoids the reality of sistema.

Why should he? He must have some expectation that Trump will pardon him.

Trump's been distancing himself further and further from Manafort for over a year, now. At first he was saying that he didn't know about Manafort's past when he was hired, then he said that everything Manafort is in trouble for stemmed from before the campaign and is therefore nothing to do with Trump, then he said that Manafort would never have been hired if Trump had known about his past, and then he said that Manafort only worked for Trump very briefly and had nothing to do with his campaign. That doesn't read like Trump has got Manafort's back. It reads like he's being thrown under the bus.

Add to that the fact that if Manafort is pardoned then that means that he can no longer plead the 5th if called to testify, and you can see that Trump doesn't want Manafort pardoned.

Curious to hear C_Felix's response to this obvious rejoinder.

I mean, no one reading the news could miss that some Americans have been indicted, right? So why pretend ignorance, when it can be so easily answered?

Well, to be fair, I read his question in the context of meddling with the election and the social media campaign. As I understand it, most of the indictments of Americans so far have been for various money laundering and influence peddling charges (with the possible exception of the DNC hack).

Hellbound is correct.

Russian efforts to help Sanders and Jill Stein have been known about for at least 18 months now. I'm not really sure what's new here. Does this story have a real source now?

ETA: and I see I'm not first to point this out.

Well, Bernie continues to pretend that he didn't benefit.

This whole line of reasoning is just plain pathetic.

It is just another way some Trump supporters deal with their cognitive dissonance. "All politicians lie" "All presidents were sleazy" "every human poops"........etc. It is lazy and dishonest but I expect such "reasoning" from people who support the fascist named Trump.

All politicians are corrupt or moronic or both. All politicians are sleazy morons. We haven't had a president who wasn't a sleazy moron since Lincoln, probably.

This is the kind of 'reasoning' that leads to deplorables choosing *the worst possible* of the sleazy swamp denizens.

Ehh... don't kid yourself. They've been using it really heavily since long before Trump joined in. That got even worse, though, when the right-wing opinion media started heavily promoting it once they were given the relatively free rein that they have now. Unsurprisingly, the quality of their people has been fairly consistently dropping during that time.

Arguably, Bernie didn't benefit from it. Trump certainly benefited from the infighting among the Democrat factions, and the Russian efforts probably contributed to that.

I'm not a Bernie fan, but so far, I've no reason to think that Bernie was aware of any Russian "help" he may have received.

And 5 and 50 are both numbers, but if you act like that makes both equal, expect derision and mockery.

Hannity guest theorizes that Russians were "hired, owned and paid by the DNC to hack themselves"

Jonathan Gilliam: "You think that Russian state-sponsored operatives left footprints, and showed the world that they were hacking the DNC? There's no way"

https://www.mediamatters.org/video/...red-owned-and-paid-dnc-hack-themselves/220739

That makes a lot of sense. The DNC hired Russians to hack themselves so that they could say Trump colluded with a foreign power. Too bad it backfired. Stupid liberals lose again. When will they ever learn?

At the NATO summit, Trump, inexplicably, stands on the table, drops his pants and takes a big crap right on the table. He picks up the poop with his bare hands and flings it at Angela Merkel.
Trump apologists respond: I don't see what the fuss is all about, all presidents lack decorum at one point or another. What about Obama's tan suit?
