I don't disagree with that. I think Trump believes that he may have done things that were technically illegal, but nothing really wrong.

Of course, I would disagree with Trump on that.

And I don't know if he's in real danger of jail time. I don't know enough about the ins & outs of the legal system, but can he be convicted without a jury trial, and can we seat a jury that won't have at least one member that thinks the whole thing is a librul deep-state conspiracy?

I definitely believe he thinks there is a danger. His actions scream of someone afraid of what Putin could do.

Curious to hear C_Felix's response to this obvious rejoinder.

I mean, no one reading the news could miss that some Americans have been indicted, right? So why pretend ignorance, when it can be so easily answered?

Well, to be fair, I read his question in the context of meddling with the election and the social media campaign. As I understand it, most of the indictments of Americans so far have been for various money laundering and influence peddling charges (with the possible exception of the DNC hack).

Not mutually exclusive.

No they are not.

But Trump is a blustering blowhard incessantly demanding center stage. The concept of playing second banana to anybody annoys him to all end. Never in my life can I recall a major figure so afraid of being less in any way to someone else. Yet there Trump was being obsequious and servile to Putin.

Trump is deferential to NOONE! So why is he sucking up to Putin? The one person he should be tough with?

If Bernie's campaign is caught up in this, potentially even Bernie, so be it. While I like Bernie much better than Trump, I'm not even remotely interested in playing partisan when it comes to national security or electoral integrity. If wrong was done, it very much should be brought to light and dealt with accordingly, regardless of who did it.

Fine democracy ya got goin' there America. Putin has your entire country by the short hairs.

Not entire. Again, "Hillary." For all her faults, she was rather certainly not a Russian pawn. Either way, I've never thought of the Democratic Party as incorruptable or paladins. The Party has some rather distinct flaws. That the Republican Party has pretty much turned itself or been turned into into something worthy of many and powerful condemnations doesn't change that. Thus... no, I'm not disheartened. Annoyed and desiring any wrongdoing to be uprooted, if it's actually there, like I am about any other wrongdoing by Democrat (and Republican), though.

....

One of the linked tweets says this:
The former Gore-Lieberman and Kerry-Edwards adviser says there is room in the Democratic field for a candidate like Sanders.

If this guy was a veteran Democratic campaign manager, it's no surprise that Sanders hired him. I'd withhold judgment about whether Sanders is in cahoots with the Russkies.

This. I voted for Bernie in the primary, but if he is involved, there has to be consequences for him.

Putin really hated Clinton.

What about Uranium One? ;)

Yea looking at Bernie's body of work, it'd be shocking if he was complicit and not just (perhaps) a victim of Russian meddling, while Trump being complicit fits right in with what the world knows about him anyway.

I think you sell Trump short. He is almost pathological when it comes to certain things.

As for the financial angle, I doubt he's afraid of having the Russian money supply cut off as much as he is afraid of going to prison. I 99.9 percent believe Putin has evidence of actual crimes and Putin is blackmailing Trump with that evidence. Otherwise, why did this summit happen amidst the Russia probe? And especially why did Trump meet with Putin alone? What could someone so ignorant like Trump accomplish?

No, Putin definitely has something major on Trump. Either that, or Trump is beyond stupid. In fact, he gives stupid a bad name.

My bet is on bog-standard criminality. Tax evasion or money laundering.

"Mr President Trump, I'm your friend, and am trying hard to sit on the press who are sniffing around your business dealings on these dates... I find that a compliant press is so... handy, pity if some overly patriotic and misguided member of the FSB would leak those details to the Washington Post"

But also:

Devine, a veteran political strategist, worked for Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his pro-Kremlin Party of Regions at the time, as did Manafort, the Washington Post reported.

Linky.

However, according to this Reddit discussion from 2 years ago, while he was with Bernie he was in favor of Bernie playing nice and dropping out after NY. I think the Russians wanted the "stolen primary" narrative for Bernie, so it wouldn't really make sense.

A lot of political strategists are basically hired guns;they will work for whoever pays the best.
Most of them specialize in working for one side of the political spectrum, but you do have a few who free lance on both sides.

Good response.

Yea, me too.

Trump keeps proving over and over that he is either corrupt, massively moronic or both.

I cannot understand how people like Logger and The Big Dog keep supporting this treasonous ignoramus. Is it simply, yeah we know he's a sleazy moron, but he's our sleazy moron?
