Cont: Brexit: Now What? Part 5

Theoretically speaking then there's nothing stopping another referendum, but that would require Parliament to actually work. I understand your point then.

Do you think the EU is prepared to offer the UK the same deal they have signed with Japan?

Why would the UK want a deal with "Japan" crossed out and "United Kingdom" written above it? I thought the UK was supposed to be getting a bespoke deal that would give them everything they want?

True but pure show.

Had he balls and really cared for his country he would have made a point as soon as he saw his now beloved "Lancaster House" statement be diluted to what it now is. He could have stood after the Mansion House speech where already Brexit means Brexit started to become weaker.

No, he waited post Chequers to make a show. He probably wants to be PM, but does not seem to have the balls.

The possibility of Corbyn winning outright majority, should an election take place, would be a disaster for the UK. Current polls suggest he could.

The Tories know this.

His dream is perhaps for this (Corbyn winning a majority) to happen so then when post Brexit, under Labour, proves to be a short term disaster for the UK, he can come riding in to save the day.

What a deluded ball-less prick.

ETA: Always thought he was self satisfying prick when he played the bumbling buffoon on shows like HIGNFY in the early noughties.

The new Brexit secretary will be having his first EU meetings:

The UK's new Brexit secretary will hold his first talks with the EU's chief negotiator in Brussels later.

Good news if you're a customs officer.

Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) Leo Varadkar has said his government is making contingency plans for "the unlikely event of a no-deal hard Brexit".

Mr Varadkar said that - even if there is a deal - Ireland will need 1,000 new customs officers and veterinary inspectors to deal with changes in trade rules with the UK.

Ah, this must be such a lot of fun for, let's say, retired expat Brits living in the EU who are wondering whether they'll continue to qualify for free local healthcare and whether their pensions might be frozen :D ;)

Well Brexiteers are expecting companies to stay "loyal" to the UK despite the economic consequences. It's only fair that traitors who have chosen to leave this sceptred isle share the burden too :p

They are welcome to return, plenty of jobs here picking fruit, albeit not so many healthcare professionals here. They can perhaps try for a quick consultation when they see them going the other way at the airport.

Businesses sensibly making plans for a no-deal Brexit

Across the board, firms feel the cliff-edge is getting uncomfortably close.

One food retailer told me "no deal is looking more likely - we are getting pretty worried. We're looking at a number of options to make sure we can get food into the UK."

Food shortages, what better way to engender the Blitz spirit

This could get us Bs out of a hole ... I buy a boat with the remains of our cash and deliver Greek produce and pharmaceuticals. It's a long trip, but Greek tomatoes are sooo good and would fetch top $/£/€.

Do they still patrol the coves of Cornwall looking for smugglers?

Will you require hard currency or will pounds do ?

Need a crew? I grew up in a South Coast fishing village and can suggest an alternative arrival point.:D

Be careful of the Italian coast guard, and make clear to them you smuggle food, not people, otherwise you may get shot at. ;)

:D

Marmite, bovril, Branston pickle ... delicacies would do fine. Swedes too (the veg, not the people). We grow them and our neighbours love the ones we give them, but you can't buy them here. Oh wait ... no UK veggie pickers. Can I smuggle in Greek Swedes too? This entrepreneurship thing isn't as hard as it looks. Boundless trade opportunities after Brexit!
