Trump immigrant family separation policy

It's also only one of the several stated reasons for the policy, one of which was to be punitive and discourage other prospective immigrants.

I'm sure we'll have more Trump-loving members drop into this thread on occasion to dump another load of ******** in the hopes that at some point it will be bought. This particular load, though, has been addressed multiple times already and it's a lie.

SOP for Trump. Tell a lie. When called on it, rage against "fake news". If the furor doesn't die down in a few days, tell a different lie, completely inconsistent with the first lie. If the Trump base and Fox News support the lie, it becomes the new truth. Otherwise repeat the process.

ETA: I think the statement to the effect that the purpose was to deter illegal immigration was probably fairly close to the truth. Trump, however, did not anticipate the backlash. It's a problem for Trump. When you possess not one bit of human decency, not any real grasp of the concept, it's very hard to predict how people who do have it will react to evil things you do that seem perfectly logical to you.

I was reading an article today about when Trump wrote the press statement for Donnie Jr's meeting with the Russians (I think it's the one where they claimed it was all about adoption). When he got called out on it, his response was that it was only something he said to the "fake New York Times." I thought about it, and it hit me. Wait a minute. Is he saying that he lied to the NYT, and they published it and so that makes them fake news?

I never quite figured out the implications sans one: he admitted he lied to the New York Times. And he doesn't care.

Never mind the controversy when Obama wore a *gasp* tan suit! Or when Michelle wore a sleeveless dress and showed her arms in public!

Focusing on wardrobe choices is a big part of what the media does. The difference is, I cannot recall a single time in eight years when either Obama, Michelle, or either of their children wore such a tone-deaf item of clothing to an official function. If Melania picked that jacket herself, shame on her; if her stylist did, shame on them. That sends the absolute worst impression possible when the FLOTUS is, by all appearances, making the attempt to at least carry out one of the duties of her office for once.

Here she is arriving for the visit, and not wearing the jacket.

That's gotta be photoshopped.

It's photoshopped.

Unless it was some fashion statement I can't see her even choosing such a jacket in normal times.

I'm still going with photoshopped until more confirmation.

Yes she thankfully left it off when she arrived in Texas, but her stylist or whoever chose that jacket should rightly have been aware that, as FLOTUS, her every move is going to be photographed, and taken that into account when picking her outfit for the trip to Texas. Whether she wore it into the shelter itself is immaterial; it was well known she was traveling to Texas on that flight for the purposes of visiting one of the (more humane appearing) shelters for the immigrant children, and she wore THAT on the start of the trip. It sends the absolute wrong message during a crucial visit to at least TRY to make her husband look marginally better.

My Administration is acting swiftly to address the illegal immigration crisis on the Southern Border. Loopholes in our immigration laws all supported by extremist open border Democrats...and that's what they are - they're extremist open border Democrats....

I wonder if they'll let her in to see the center. After all, its not like they let just anybody in.

From: https://slate.com/news-and-politics...d-away-from-border-facility-for-children.html
A U.S. Senator from Oregon was turned away from a detention center for migrant children, including those separated from their parents at the U.S. border under a new immigration policy... he explains that his staff had sought permission to enter the facility, but that permission was declined by Homeland Security.

And both of Oregon's Senators are democrats.

But I'm sure that made no difference at all.

If Mitch McConnell or Orrin hatch had been the ones to go I have no doubt they would have been met with the same refusal.
