Trump immigrant family separation policy

Of course it is. It's the reason Trump initiated the policy of separating the kids from the people who SAY they are their parents. But, fake news went crazy without even bothering to find out why the policy was implemented, and Trump decided to play politics instead of going with common sense. But, everyone trafficking children up from Central America is happy because it is back to business as usual. In fact, now that they know all they have to do is scream to the media that that they are being separated from their "child", one would presume they would feel emboldened by they way this worked out for them. They are now untouchable.

The fact he took a small occurrence compared to the population at large and applied it to a population at large is news. The few reports it does occur is not newsworthy.

It's also only one of the several stated reasons for the policy, one of which was to be punitive and discourage other prospective immigrants.

I'm sure we'll have more Trump-loving members drop into this thread on occasion to dump another load of ******** in the hopes that at some point it will be bought. This particular load, though, has been addressed multiple times already and it's a lie.

Melania Trump has proven time and time again that she's as evil as her johnhusband. We should just be happy she's virtually powerless.

I'm confused. I'm a citizen of the USA, and my president and and his Justice Department are warping a law, to separate children from their parents.

Am I mistaken, or is this one of the worst abuses of executive power I have seen in my lifetime?

Depends on how old you are :)

If you are old enough, the answer is probably going to be no. But the question is, how old do you have to be for the answer to be for the answer to be "no"?

ETA: Iran/Contra was the 'big thing" when I was in high school. Separating families is abhorrent to me.

Depends on how you measure them. Iran Contra was likely far more criminal, this is far more immoral though likely legal.

Of course it was meant to send a message. The heat index here is in the high 90s and hotter in Texas. I carried my sport coat this morning. No one needs a jacket here or in Texas today.

Did you forget about Obama's Murder Drone program? Talk about separating families....

I'm going to say the policies in the 80's were worse. The damage we did meddling in the affairs of countries in S/central America is probably incalculable.

A lot of people did not like that policy. I don't. But drone strikes of suspected terrorists and policies of child separation are not equivalent, of course, and we're still using drones to blow people away, so it's not like Trump did anything good on that front, either.

This is also largely a result of those policies.

Seems like drone strikes were a hell of a way to accomplish child separation...

Never mind the controversy when Obama wore a *gasp* tan suit! Or when Michelle wore a sleeveless dress and showed her arms in public!

Focusing on wardrobe choices is a big part of what the media does. The difference is, I cannot recall a single time in eight years when either Obama, Michelle, or either of their children wore such a tone-deaf item of clothing to an official function. If Melania picked that jacket herself, shame on her; if her stylist did, shame on them. That sends the absolute worst impression possible when the FLOTUS is, by all appearances, making the attempt to at least carry out one of the duties of her office for once.

Going on a humanitarian fact-finding trip to witness abuses ordered by her husband? It's kind of absurd that's now part of her official duties.

mexico gives transit visas to these folks from Central America seeking asylum in the United states yet never bothers to tell them that there are 9 US Consulates and an Embassy in Mexico where they could apply?

hmmmm
