My understanding of one method: You have a real project, but with cost-overruns going out to contractors (building a high rise for example). On paper, you're bleeding money, but the contractor is in on it and gives you a kick-back. Meanwhile the project may remain underdeveloped - empty floors in the high rise.

This is how it could have worked for the Trump project in Azerbaijan and possibly a couple of others in sort of Soviet-bloc type places.

Another method is having a high-cash business like pizza delivery or car wash where you just inflate your actual tip earnings to conceal that you're also delivering heroin along with pizzas. A taxi fleet could work that way.

I'd be interested in other methods; it's not something I know much about but can understand if put in concrete terms. Maybe I'll start a thread.

While all the various lawsuits and investigations related to Stormy Daniels, Cohen, Russia, and the Trump foundation grind their way though the system, a lawsuit against Trump over the Emoluments clause is proceeding. The Trump side is using the defense that its not illegal because while the Trump organization earns money when foreign governments stay in his hotels, there is no 'quid pro quo'.

This is in addition to a second emoluments clause lawsuit launched by the democrats, that I didn't find out about until today.

Plus, there is a case brought on by a former contestant on The Apprentice (Summer Zervos) who is suing for defamation because Trump said she was a liar. Trump's team tried to argue that the State court had no jurisdiction but fortunately the request was denied Thursday and the lawsuit can go forward.

So, how many legal battles is Trump contending with right now?

- Emoluments lawsuit brought up by Maryland and Washington D.C. that he is benefitting when foreign governments stay in his hotels
- Emoluments lawsuit brought up by Democrats over things like the granting of Trademarks by China
- The Mueller investigation into possible links to Russia
- The Stormy Daniels/Cohen lawsuit and investigation, which involves both a non-disclosure lawsuit, and all sorts of assorted financial crimes by Cohen that Trump may or may not have some involvement in
- Lawsuit targeting the Trump foundation and its potential misuse of funds
- Defamation lawsuit against Trump brought on by a former contestant on The Apprentice.

Any that I missed?

And these are just the ongoing lawsuits and investigations. There were also lawsuits that Trump was involved in during the election campaign or in the first year of his presidency that were resolved (e.g. Trump University). And these were just the ones involving Trump's personal activities... it doesn't include the myriad of lawsuits stemming from Trump's actions as president... the Muslim ban, people fighting restrictions on Transgender people in the military, people fighting immigration policies, etc.

This administration is basically godwinning itself so this isn't surprising at all.

Aleman-Bendiks, the public defender, said several of her clients have told her their children were taken from them by Border Patrol agents who said they were going to give them a bath. As the hours passed, it dawned on the mothers the kids were not coming back.

I still do not understand how this can possibly be the Democrats' fault. I know there are various blocking maneuvers but the GOP is passing other things with 1- or 2-vote majorities. I've tried multiple news sources including conservative outlets and have not found any explanation.

So I get that this is a deterrent. It's not pretty but it's playing hardball to deal with a chronic problem. IMO that still doesn't justify torture. Taking a baby from a lactating mom is torture. I have no kids and practically zero maternal instinct, but even I know these families must be in hell.

Of course not, because it isn't.

Trump has this ignorant idea he'll get his wall and whatever else the idiot wants by forcing the Democrats to kowtow. But the Democrats, as far as I can tell, aren't that ignorant. No one believes Trump except maybe a batch of foolish GOP legislators.

The Nov election is going to depend on turnout, not fear mongering.

I find it interesting that Trump is pushing back on the G-7 narrative. I don't think his base cares much about offending allies, especially in a multilateral context. The allies are going out of their way to be understanding with Trump.

That photo of him with Merkel, Abe etc. must really be bothering him. Or it could just be bothering the person writing his tweets. When I first saw that photo I thought it was fake! But who in his camp would care about Merkel's relationship with Trump?

Which makes me truly concerned about turnout. Whatever is going on re: voter suppression, that stuff needs to be taken care of NOW and not left to some last-ditch effort to "get out the vote."

I know you are not thrilled by the idea that Democratic voter complacency was a big factor in Trump's win. But IMO it was.

At least the hypocrisy of erecting tent camps for children in 100+ degree heat while being a member is avoided. Most countries that abandon any pretense of decency don't have the presence of mind to realize they don't fit on the council.
