Arrest warrant issued for Tom DeLay

My favorite part:

A Texas court issued a warrant Wednesday for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to appear for booking, where he is likely to face the fingerprinting and photo mug shot he had hoped to avoid.

:dl:

Sweet. As the old saw goes "a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged; a liberal is a conservative who's been arrested."

On a more serious note, I have a hard time giving credit to claims that the charges against DeLay are "politically motivated." Somebody in Ronnie Earle's position--damn near the last Democrat elected official in Texas--isn't going to issue indictments agaisnt someone like DeLay unless he's very sure that he has a case which will stand up in court.

I've lived in Austin for the entire time Earle has been the D.A. and if you look at his record one thing is clear, he doesn't give a damn if your a Democrat or a Republican or powerful as hell, he'll come after you.

He's been in hot water with his own party so many times I've lost count, for going after very prominent Democrats.

The American Statesman, the local newspaper, itemized his political prosecutions over the years and about 75% of his targets were Democrats.

Delay's a sneaky SOB and I wouldn't be surprised if he wiggled out of this one but you can bank on the fact that this is one DA he will not intimidate.

Also, one must remember that no matter how bad the DA wants someone it's up to the Grand Jury, made up of ordinary citizens to decide whether to proceed. If the Grand Jury indicts then a group of ordinary citizens have decided that the evidence is strong enough to warrant a trial.

Personally, I'm enjoying the hell out of watching the sleaze of this administration bubble to the surface.

Popcorn, anyone?

Personally, what I find absolutely mind-boggling is that republicans have the cajones to accuse someone bringing charges as "politically motivated."

I guess those impeachment hearings were all just to bring justice for the good of the country?

[cynicism on] What they mean is that he isn't going to escape prosecution under a democrat but he likely would if that elected official was a republican. Thus, the charges are "politically motivated".[cynicism off]

Sadly, I don't find it mind boggling at all. For the Republican leadership these days, hypocrisy is just their way of saying hello.

I've never been behind the Bushes!

And when I expressed surprise at the fact that many of my friends were going to vote for him when he first ran. Their excuse was, "he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he has surrounded himself with smart men."

Well no, he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, AND he's surrounded himself with criminals. Hope his mug shot is as bad as Yasmin Bleeth's and Nick Nolte's.

There's such a thing as being too clever for your own good. And hubris never goes out of fashion. I doubt that they actually thought of themselves as criminals, just smart operators engaged in a little sharp practice. The money-laundering aspect has probably come as a shock - that's about drug-dealers, isn't it? :) I suspect they live in a very closed, self-congratulatory circle and are having a rude shock.

Yeah, Blue Monk, I'll have some popcorn; want a beer? This should be fun. Has OJ's lawyer joined the team yet?

I'm in. I handle the beer and chips.

This might be as good as the "Jimmy Swaggart Caught With a Whore" show.

Nothing can be as good as that was.

::sniff:: I sinned against CHEW, O Lord!

Ah yes...Season 2: The Blubbering

American TV at it's finest.

Let us never, ever forget the drama pathos ad sex (can I still say that here?) of ..................................

The Tidal Basin Bombshell

Who? You might ask? Well...

ANABELLA BATTISTELLA: Better known as "Fanne Foxe, The Argentine Firecracker," Battistella leaped from Arkansas Rep. Wilbur Mills' limo one night in 1974 and ran into the Tidal Basin in Washington. The alcoholic Mills was eventually forced to check into a rehab center. He retired in 1976, and died in 1992. Battistella kept performing, often under the name "The Tidal Basin Bombshell" and wrote the "The Stripper and the Congressman," but tried to commit suicide in 1976. She is believed to be in Argentina

Mills of course, was the most powerful Representitive of his time, in chare of appropriations, don't cha know. Powerful TV.

It used to be that left-wing scandals were about money and right-wing scandals were about sex. (That's in the UK and US, the Anglo-Saxon world, of course. Not France or Italy, where nobody's scandalised by sex.) Recently it seems to have been turned around. How's a body supposed to understand the modern world? It's chaos.

Mr Burns: Are these indiscretions romantic, financial, or treasonous?
Krusty: A Russian hooker. You tell me.

Whoa folks.....

We are forgetting about the Rovin' with Rove Show. If it's picked up by the brass this could be back to the golden age of TV. We can only hope.

Some lawyer acquaintances in Texas, who I suppose are more familiar with the law and charges say that Delay is definitely guilty and has been in trouble for ethics violations before and been reprimanded, this isn't the first time.
