The Trump Presidency VII

We'll talk about being allies again once Trump is in jail.

If we get attacked and our allies fail to support us, I really hope the trump toadies in this country are prepared to get their boots on and fight for what they profess to love.

I'll not be holding my breath.

What's striking here is that this can't be back stabbing because Trudeau hasn't changed his tune on the tariffs one bit. He said it before, during and after the summit.

Another striking thing is the WH loudly admitting that their stupid posturing failed prior to the NK summit. They don't think North Korea reads the news? It's official -- the US is being run by morons.

If the goal was to appear strong, Trump should've made a proper agreement with the G7 instead of running away like a little girl. As it is, he's mostly proved that he doesn't know how to make a deal.

And this is the real danger. Trump can't take being stood up to. He'll run away and pout on Twitter and then it's a crap shoot what happens with Korea next.

Everyone is going to want to be president after Trump. When you can make Bush Jnr. look bright and articulate by contrast, you're surely going to give any act that follows a decent popularity bump.

Trumplethinskin threw out the baby with the bath water because.... Trudeau said something mean, wahhhhh !

He can dish it out, but he can't take it.

That's fine, not a problem at all for the rest of the civilized world.

The G6 will move forward with their alliances, cutting deals and trades with each other while the US sits and pouts in a corner. C'est la vie.

In other words, the rest of the world will continue to move forward in the 21st century boosting up each other in an inevitable global economic system (whether the child-in-chief likes it or not), while the US gets left behind in the dust.

Rome is burning... and Trump plays his fiddle.

I can totally see (goofball) William Shatner being elected President now. Two years ago I would have thought that highly unlikely.

Kudlow says, "He holds a press conference and he said the US is insulting, he said that Canada has to stand up for itself, he says that we are the problem with tariffs."

Kudlow on Trudeau: “You just don’t behave that way. It’s a betrayal. Essentially double-crossing."

Isn't that what Trump has been saying about Canada for the past month? It's okay for Trump to say those things about other people, but not for other people to say them about the US?

Hey!

Don't go getting sexist there. No doubt Trump did his share of running to Daddy when he was a little boy.

If you listen to the interview with 'the legendary' Kudlow (or read Stacko's links), it seems pretty clear that, in the background of the G7, Trump has asked/told the other leaders that he doesn't want them to generate any negative press ahead of his NK play date with Kim, and that's really what's prompted accusations of 'betrayal' and 'backstabbing', along with Trump's usual petulance.

Stand by for more tweets featuring the word "weak" and as many synonyms of that as Trump can come up with over the next day or so as he shows how strong he is,

Uh, the only thing that future presidents will learn from Trump is not to be Trump, and I suspect the only forgiveness put forward in future will be from the US to the rest of the world for allowing the pompous idiotic bloated fool to play on the world stage.

This assumes that US survives the Trump Presidency with anything like a functioning democracy. The likelihood grows by the day that authoritarian regimes like China and Russia will dominate the world by then, and Trump will have done most the work for them - not only taking down the US, but taking down the Western democracies with him.

Indeed, indeed, indeed. Hubris, always the giant killer.

I hope you don't mean to imply that a little girl can't be president.

A presidential candidate must be at least 35 so a little girl cannot be president - and neither can a little boy......

A little girl can go on to be president of course.

Under scrutiny from loyal allies, Trump chooses to strengthen his alliance with Putin and Kim Jong Un.

Notwithstanding geopolitical consequences, it demonstrates a grown man unable to hold his own among peers, so instead seeks affirmation among adversaries willing to provide it.
