Roseanne Barr off the air

What on earth is this? Is criticizing racism now "ultra left?" Seems like pretty basic decency to me.

Steady. It's all about Roseanne. Roseanne's still a racist. It's just that she shouldn't be regarded as "belonging" to one side or the other. And consequently, her actions do not have to be defended (as some posters are currently doing) because she's in loony land. YMMV

Yeah I know about that.

Jarrett is a really light-skinned black woman. She could pass for white or something other than African descent. If you dressed up to look like her you wouldn't do blackface. She doesn't look like an ape in any way. Roseanne seems to be more idiotic than racist because Valerie doesn't even resemble an ape. Is Roseanne on drugs, or something?
How does Jarrett's actual looks lessen Roseanne's racism in that comment? No blacks, not a single one of them resemble an ape. How do you not understand that?

I think you are either missing the point or ignoring it.

Should we talk about the goddess Michelle Obama? Have you seen her legs? OH MAH GAWD. She married a nerd with big goofy ears. How did that happen? It's because she never met me.

So you like a sexy black woman, but you call an incredibly accomplished black man unworthy of a beautiful black woman?

Really?

You do know he's been an incredible father to their two daughters, and an incredible husband to Michelle, right?

Good job turning a black woman into a sexual object.
I'm attracted to all colors. Maybe if I was racist I wouldn't be. But I'm not really sure what is the definition of racism. I can read the dictionary but modern culture seems to want to loosen the definition.

I did say that Michelle is smart. So she's a sexual object that is also said to be smart? Is there any way that I can escape from the sexual objectifier label that you have slapped on me? It makes me a bad guy, right?

We've got some people saying that other people look like apes and also specifically orangutans. I said that Michelle is a smart goddess and you found a way to slam me. I don't know what to say next.

Look, Barack is a great guy in every way. He's as good as I am but I don't have those ears, so maybe I'm slightly better. I said he's a nerd and I'm a nerd too. But I don't have Michelle. :(

What the hell is going on here? In post #294 I say that there are no blacks that resemble apes. Now you can't understand why I would think that blacks resemble apes. I never said that and instead said the opposite.

What the hell is going on here? What in the world are you talking about?

A little historical context is useful here.

In general people consider a comment aimed at a minority (such as the use of the N-word or comparing someone to an ape) because in North America the majority of the political and socioeconomic power has rested with people who's skin color is white. This has been the case for, well, centuries and continues to this day.

Now, it is true that it is possible to discriminate against a white person. There is also racial slang that is targeted at white people (calling them 'cracker' for example). But the fact that people of my color have held power for so long means that such discrimination doesn't hold the significance that discrimination against minorities does.
How long do White People need to pay for the sins of their forefathers before discrimination against White people becomes significant?

You said this:
Is this ape from The Planet a black or a negro or a colored or an African-American?

Then you said this:
Should we talk about the goddess Michelle Obama? Have you seen her legs? OH MAH GAWD. She married a nerd with big goofy ears. How did that happen?

I take it we misunderstood whatever it was you meant. Maybe your joke fell flat.

I don't think the show could work without her. You can't write her out because it will still be about her. That sounds illogical but it isn't. If you remove her the show becomes "Without Rosanne", which is still about Rosanne.

Because society has just decided to discard her as trash that show has to be discarded in any form as well.

It worked ok with

Valerie
I mean
Valerie's Family
I mean
The Hogan Family
I mean
The Hogans

I'm not sure if that last one made it to air but it was next, I'm sure.

It's ISF :D You didn't give the full explanation of your position again at one point, and SG leapt upon that weakness in order to supposedly score a point.

eta: Then it continued, I see.

I have a dream that our children will one day live on a planet where they will not be judged by the colors of their skins but by how closely their anatomies compare to those of apes when they are dissected by the chimpanzees.
