Roseanne Barr off the air

Trump, of course. That's the prevailing conspiracy theory. She supported Trump so she had to go.

Barr has gone on some bizarre attacks before, directed at conservatives:

Politically she's pretty consistently been far left; I suspect that her common cause with Trump is on trade and tariffs. I was just browsing her Wikipedia page; she tried to run for president on the Green Party ticket in 2012 and even got the endorsement of the Green Party Black Caucus (I imagine that is causing some embarrassment right now) and NORML. The Greens offered her a prime speaking role at their convention, but she sent a surrogate instead who bashed the party for not taking her candidacy seriously. She received the nomination of the Peace and Freedom Party with Saint Cindy Sheehan as her running mate. The two had a falling out as Roseanne apparently didn't really want to do the hard and dirty work of campaigning; she had an internet-based campaign in mind. Because the P&F Party did not qualify for the ballot in Hawaii, her home state, Roseanne voted for Obama. In 2012, she tweeted the home address and phone number of George Zimmerman's parents.

The thing is that her mindless idiocy has cost hundreds of people -- actors, technicians, administrators -- their jobs overnight in an industry where finding another one won't be so easy. She obviously thought that in the age of Trump -- who has praised her effusively -- blatant racism would carry no consequences.
Well, I assume that the television slot will have to be filled with SOMETHING. (I can't see the network just broadcasting static for a half hour a week.) So, while it may not be exactly the same people, roughly the same number of people will be employed working on ABC television programming next season.

Yep. I have nothing good to say about Barr herself, but really, all she had to do was keep her racism and conspiracy theories to herself. The fact that she couldn't even manage to not write it up on Twitter, even after landing a big show, has managed to harm the people who worked on that show.

Having said that, I'm not sure why anyone is acting shocked.

*Is* anyone acting shocked?

And racism. Don't forget they share the common cause of racism.

Yes, Rosanne may have been associated with various 'left wing' causes in the past. But that was in the past. And lets face it, Trump's voter base does not fit into the standard right wing/republican mold; its more of a cult of personality based on mutual love of bigotry.

I seem to remember a televised debate where a cogent, well prepared Rosanne sparred against an equally cogent, well prepared Ted Nugent.

Which cast members? I head heard that Sara Gilbert commented on how Rosanne's tweets "do not reflect the beliefs of our cast or our crew", but I haven't seen comments by any other actor from the show, or anyone claiming they wanted to leave. (I'm not doubting you, I just hadn't seen anything.)

I did see that one of the writers was planning on leaving before the show got cancelled.

That was incorrect Wanda Sykes was a producer not a writer. And who can guess why a black lesbian wouldn't want to be associated with Rosanne?

Nearly my first thought as well.

I look forward to her show being picked up by Fox.
Not sure if Fox (the Network) would want her. While FoxNews may be quite happy with their pro-Trump, pro-bigotry ideology, the people running Fox Network may not share the same opinions. News networks probably attract a different demographic than television networks.

Speaking of FoxNews, former FoxNews host Eric Bolling supported Rosanne, claiming "No apologies were necessary". (Remember folks, FoxNews is the channel that Trump gets is advice from... so he was regularly listening to someone who thought equating a black woman with an ape was something that was A-OK.)

Wanda Sykes is a heavy-hitter and a big-name edgy comedian in her own right, not just "one of the writers."
Yes, I am familiar with Sykes (mostly from her acting and her voice work.) Early reports listed her as "head writer"; I didn't know about her producer role on Rosanne, and reports didn't provide that information until later.

However, I don't think she was a member of the cast, which was what I was curious about; whether any of the actors on the show had said they would quit the show before it was cancelled.

I can't find it, now, but I think she was responding to a tweet by Julian Assange/wikileaks about the CIA (under Obama) spying on French presidential candidates. Not sure why she picked on Jarrett instead of Obama though. Admittedly, I'm not up on my RB rants. It seems as though it's an RB vendetta against Jarrett since she only used her initials in the tweet (and everyone knew who she was referring to).

Here it is. Screen shot of Roseanne's tweets.

I imagine she's spent the past couple of years feeling pretty conflicted and confused. On the one hand, not wanting to be associated with Roseanne Barr. On the other hand, wanting to be associated with Roseanne Barr so much that she signs on as the head writer for Roseanne Barr's TV show. Probably she views this tweetstorm with relief, the perfect opportunity to make a graceful exit from Roseanne Barr's money.

With all the prior examples out there, I am still surprised when someone nonetheless mindlessly dashes off a tweet that is likely to severely damage their image and/or career. Same thing is true of Youtube videos. Perhaps I can understand this type of stupidity from a 16 year old who thinks it's great to tweet about themselves spitting into the french fries at the restaurant at which they work. Or even a dumb 19 year old who thinks that a racist video of a blackface party at their fraternity would be perfect to upload to youtube. But a rich celebrity who already has many years of experience in the industry, with audences, and in public relations? Wouldn't they make certain that they could only tweet through their publicity agent to ensure that it helps rather than hurts their career? They shouldn't even have their own account or allow themselves direct access so as to prevent tweeting while drunk, etc (which is what I suspect happened here).

I never tweet but if I am tempted to write an angry email I may compose it when I am angry, but I always hold off sending it until the next day. By then I usually edit it to be much more calm, polite and appropriate.
