Joy Reid........lying Homophobe

She's doing wrong. Just own up to the bad behavior, don't compound it by lying. It's good that she's had to step down, as I understand it.

(I'll retract that condemnation in the off chance she really was the subject of a frame-up.)

Her job doesn't demand honesty, though. You'd think it should, and we like to pretend it does, but that's simply not the way it is.

Agreed. Hannity proved that transparency and honesty are not even really expected in that profession.

I guess it could differ by network. We'll see, I suppose.

As far as LGBT issues go, I'm going to disagree. Of course, MSNBC has it's corporate sponsors to look out for, but Reid's rep is partly built on her embrace of marriage equality and the like - thus her awards for being such a great ally from outside groups.

Yeah, they do, but it wasn't the 90s that made you a fundamentalist YEC any more than it was the 80s and 90s that made me believe in various paranormal ********.

Maybe not the years themselves, but the people who surround you then. Remember the Satanic Panic, Pollack jokes?

"The host says she doesn't think she wrote the posts, but admits they don't seem to have been hacked.
On Saturday morning, five days after Joy Reid was accused of authoring a series of homophobic blog posts that were unearthed by a Twitter user, the MSNBC host apologized for the controversy, but said that she still doesn't think she wrote the posts in question."

She should get the Pulitzer.

Agreed - but if she's lying about it today, and her job demands honesty - which her job does, then that's a problem.

Which is why I'm wondering why bother lying about it, since that's a much larger issue. I pointed out before that angry Bernie stans and right-wing lunatics have been after her for a long time now, and she knows it, so why hand them anything?
What puzzles me particularly, is that she earlier owned up to and apologized for blog posts she wrote in 2007-2009. The blog posts uncovered this time are even older - 2005 and before. So, I don't see the problem in owning up to those as well.

If I had to guess, I'd say that she either figures she had her chance or she was told that she had her chance and that any further such nonsense could finish her. Everyone involved may just be biding their time, hoping for a graceful way to give her the boot.

THey'd have likely done that already, if that were the case.

And truth is, it's still easy to find "closeted gay" jokes about Lindsay Graham, as one example.

In any case, she apologized on air for the trtansphobic jokes, stated she still doesn't recall any of the posts in question (at least one of which appears to be nothing more than a doctored screenshot - as in, the person edited the HTML locally, took a screenshot of it, and uploaded it to Twitter). Greenwald is now claiming that this was all about dishonesty, except, well, he's being dishonest about that.

"Somewhere out there is a hacker — or perhaps an entire collective — specializing in retroactive-digital-homophobia-archival-insertion intrusions. This time they victimized Joy Reid. But tomorrow they could go after anyone in the industry. They’ll memorize old blogging archives; they’ll study fonts and writing styles; they’ll turn back the web’s clock a decade, then push it forward, then drop some inflammatory text on some platform. They’ll make everyone think that their targets are way more homophobic than they ever were, regardless of their ability to “evolve” on gay rights."

A good old-fashioned Swiftian takedown.

"MSNBC hasn’t uttered a word in defense or support of Joy Reid, but c’mon, folks. Her recent broadcast borrowed a strategy that saved Bill Maher last year when he faced a similar imbroglio in after uttering a racial epithet on his “Real Time” program. In the aftermath, Maher convened guests like Ice Cube and Michael Eric Dyson to call him to task for using the slur and explore the issues about its usage. Meanwhile, social media was filled this weekend with notes in support of Reid issued by many of NBC News’ best-known personnel. You don’t need to pull back the curtain to know a wizard is working a machine behind it."

"MSNBC star Joy Reid’s program “AM Joy” reportedly has been losing viewers since the #Resistance hero backtracked on claims that diabolical hackers were responsible for planting anti-gay rhetoric in her pre-fame blog…

Contemptor – a media and culture website — founder Justin Baragona, who was previously a cable news watchdog for Mediaite, broke down Reid’s ratings for her shows that have aired since the controversy erupted. Baragona found that this past Saturday’s 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ET hours of “AM Joy” finished last among major cable news networks in the key demo of adults age 25-54 – but questioned whether or not it was a “blip or a trend.”
