it's looking more and more like the RNC is in hot water itself.
This is what I'm increasingly leaning toward to explain why the GOP continues to rally around Trump. They should be in full scale damage control mode, not circling the wagons around some loser who is already the worst president in history.

But if Trump tapped into a vein of deep corruption within the GOP itself, which his downfall would bring to light...

Its possible that the GOP is rallying around Trump because their shared history of corrupt activities.

But, its also possible that its just political survival. Yes, Trump might be the iceberg that sunk the S.S. Titanic (driving off moderates and independents for the upcoming mid-terms and the 2020 election, and making minorities less likely to support the party in the future.) But the alternative is just as damaging. Trump has a firm control over the bigots in the republican party (which, it appears, seems to be pretty much everyone now.) Go against Trump and not only will you not get the moderates back, but you also risk losing what little voter base you have. So the choice is either: Support Trump and risk a humiliating defeat, or go against trump and get absolutely slaughtered.

Can't say I have any sympathy for them at this point.

I thought it was all political calculus and the inevitable endpoint of the base the Republicans have cultivated, and I still think that explains most of it.

However, we have an RNC deputy finance chair and 'lawyer' having his office raided, who help pay off the mistress of another RNC deputy finance chair (that one stepped down), with the only other client being one of Fox News' largest stars. That RNC deputy is under investigation for campaign finance violations (and other things). Now, the 'sleazy rich guy who use women as toys' club might explain a lot of that, and that's the angle I think has the most likelihood. But it can't be ruled out that this is a widespread network inside the RNC that has been violating campaign finance laws, possibly including foreign influence and 'closely coordinated' tactics with Fox.

It will be interesting to see where the evidence leads.

Lol

Might it be possible that the GOP rallies around Trump because he’s been superb in passing and pushing policies of the GOP?

That certainly might be possible, if it were actually true. But Trump has been a spectacularly ineffective president, and has often pushed policies that are not only not GOP policies, but the opposite of GOP policies - the most notable of late being the tariffs on steel and aluminium.

Yeah like the way he got health care reform passed.
No, wait a minute.

Actually Trump has very few "victories" as president. Only one major piece of legislation (tax reform), and Trump had very little input in that. And he did get an anti-abortion justice appointed to the supreme court, but again, most of the work there was done by republican senators obstructing Obama. Lots of executive orders passed, but then any republican could have done the same.

Plus, as others have pointed out, some of his policies (e.g. anti-free trade) have actually been in opposition to traditional conservative policies.

Meanwhile, Trump's toxicity and habit of alienating moderates, minorities, and non-racists will probably mean that the GOP won't have any more success in getting their policies passed in the future.

You're kidding right?

There is a Republican House, a Republican Senate a conservative Supreme Court and he's also a Republican President. He damn well should be able to get some Republican priorities passed. Yet, he failed on Obamacare, has failed on infrastructure, The White House hasn't sponsored and passed a single bill. Sure the President has signed a few bills that has made it to his desk, but any Republican should be able to do that.

The wall has gone NOWHERE. He's implemented tariffs which most Republicans oppose. If Trump had any capabilities it should be with Infrastructure. Something as a builder, you would think he would understand and support. It's also an area which pretty much EVERYONE knows is a need. But it's been zilch.

Err... it looks like you’re agreeing? You said he should be able to get some passed, so they aren’t rallying around him to cover for some sinister conspiracy?

Anyway, he’s done more at this time for the GOP cause then any other republican president, thank you!

You name one thing? Lol yes I’ll take that and put it up against the hundreds of smaller things he’s done. How many federal judges is it now? McConnell strategically blocked so many of Oidiots appointees, now Trump is sailing them through.

Re: UN Ambassador Haley[b/]...
She's a woman working under the Trump administration... shouldn't she know what her role is and how females are supposed to be treated?
She isn't invited to the White House Bible study group.

That's too bad. I head Trump was going to do a reading from Two Corinthians.

Seriously, I've seen praise for Haley coming from people over her stance over the "confusion" issue. But at the end of the day, she is still working for a racist and a bigot, and regardless of how much she stands up to him or others in the white house, she is still working to advance the agenda of a pussy-grabber who regularly belittles women (as well as various minorities). Rather than praising her, every attempt should be made to point out how her stance would be respected more if she wasn't working for a racist orangutan.

Russia: We told US where in Syria they could not bomb

Sky News said:
Russia has revealed it warned the US about "red lines" it should not cross before it launched airstrikes on Syria.

Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov is reported to have said that officials in Washington were contacted before last weekend's strikes by the US, UK and France.

Mr Lavrov said: "There were military leadership contacts, between generals, between our representatives and the coalition leadership.

"They were informed about where our red lines are, including red lines on the ground, geographically. And the results show that they did not cross these red lines."

"Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!' Where can we bomb, please?"

House Intelligence Committee report clears Trump of collusion

The 253-page report found no evidence of collusion, but did cite “poor judgment” and “ill-considered actions” on part of the Trump team and Hillary Clinton's campaign.

“While the committee found no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded, coordinated, or conspired with the Russian government, the investigation did find poor judgment and ill-considered actions by the Trump and Clinton campaigns,” the report concluded.
