The Trump Presidency (Act V - The One Where Everybody Dies)

Stunning! I'd been curious about Ivanka since Jared is usually the only one mentioned but I see she is one of the 130 with no clearance.

Remember when Trump took office and half the bunch couldn't manage to get their 'forms' filled out?

Your tax cuts in action. PepsiCo has announced it will use money it has saved due to recent cuts in federal corporate taxes to "bump its annual dividend by 15 percent and increase its share buyback program to $15 billion, from $12 billion." But wait, there's more good news! Some employees will get bonuses:
Bonuses [of up to $1,000] go to those who make PepsiCo's snacks and drinks, and those who deliver them. PepsiCo, whose headquarters is in Purchase, cited a major overhaul of the nation's tax code for the bonuses. PepsiCo did not say how many workers would receive them, or what the criteria is for the size of the bonus. Link

PepsiCo also announced other employees will be getting lay offs. But less than 1% of its 110,000 work force.

Of course they have a lobby, and it's mobilizing. An article I read said 20% of all food stamp dollars are spent at Wal-Mart. The administration, however, certainly has a point when it says that the government should be able to negotiate lower prices rather than pay retail.

Milton Friedman and many others have long argued that welfare benefits should be paid in cash because "consumers know what they want better than anyone else." This can go into Aspergery territory when you get articles published in journals with titles like "The Deadweight Loss of Christmas Giving."

But there should be a way to merge the two ideas. If the government really is paying face-value, then it needs to stop. The feds should negotiate it so that $100 grocery bill only gets paid $90 (or whatever). Frankly, I'm shocked (if) this isn't already the case.

The home delivery stuff is just stupid, and underscores the point that Republicans are more interested in scolding the poor. For many, I bet it'd be "worth it" to see poor people dump asparagus in the trash because it justifies their long-standing contempt. "See! See!!"
I think you'll probably find most of the remaining 80% are used in little corner shops local to the people receiving the food stamps. These stores will already be charging more than Walmart, not because they are price gouging simply because they don't have the buying power of Walmart. It is very unlikely they will be making 10% markup never mind 10% profit (Amazon profit margins are in the low one figure percentages) The government would only potentially achieve savings if it could bulk purchase for itself, then it would have to find a way to warehouse, distribute and deliver the items. The investment needed would be huge and take years to build up.

This is a case in which the private sector can do something better than public ownership.

Perhaps Trump should do a deal with Jeff Bezos.....

First, I was going to call BS. Then, I questioned my assumptions and googled. I have learned that "Ty Cobb" is not just a name for early 20th century baseball players.

Now, I'm working under the assumption that Ty Cobb became a lawyer in order to sue is parents for mental anguish.

Yeah, well, Shoeless Joe and the others wouldn’t let him come play ball in the cornfield either.

As someone with a clearance (and who hasn’t had secret meetings with Russian agents, isn’t in hock to the Chinese for hundreds of millions, etc.), it’s just infuriating that this gang of thieves and traitors is getting away with this sort of crap, and the craven GOP Congress’ response is to attack Federal law enforcement and a retired grandmother in New York State. And that Trump cultists’ response is to laugh because it makes the libruls mad. That’s not “deplorable”, that’s contemptible.

And no, I’m not a Democrat. Neither are a lot of other Americans who are similarly infuriated, many of whom are registered Republicans. I’ve never considered voting a straight-party ticket before, but (unless there is some Larouchite nut that snuck in as a Dem. somewhere), I will now, against the Republican Party. It needs to be destroyed, and some party of actual conservatives, not the collection of psychopaths it has become, take its place.

Wow. I know little of this process. How long does it normally take to get a security clearance?

...for everyday people, a year or more potentially, with preliminary granted within a couple of months if things are initially fine.

for White House staff? Campaigns do extensive background checks of potential staff beforehand, often bring in people who already have been cleared, and those who aren't get top priority and have everything in order to speed things along. Shouldn't take long at all.

But they are all good people so that's not a problem.

Right.
Because at least one guy (George David Banks) did have to resign from the Trump White House when his clearance was denied because he used to smoke pot.
This is of course far worse than just exercising the power God has given men over women.

Rob Porters was done in both June and August of last year. The FBI was finnished with their work at least. The only reason they wouldn't have security clearances now is if the FBI won't give it to them like Porter.

I see The Hair has declared the cause of the Florida shooting was mental illness. I'm sure the ice queen of the briefing room will tell us this shooting should not be politicized...unless the shooter turns out to be an immigrant.

Since Trump's lawyer blabbed about the $130,000 that he gave to former porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before election day, now Stormy Daniels is going to blab about the affair that she had with Trump.

This is shaping up to be just another typical White House scandal.

Surprised to see Dina Powell doesn't have a security clearance. If memory serves she was already on the Bush II admin with access to top notch security stuff (I remember seeing her in the President's WH bunker on 9/11). Can't quite believe she has been stained with serious dirt since then. Perhaps that list in part reflects mere bureaucratic backlog and procrastination rather than dark spots on the testees?

There is a reason some call it stupid watergate.
