Oprah 2020

Yeah.......nup.

Won't happen; Oprah will not permit it. Because the job would restrict Oprah from doing what she does now. She has FAR more influence in her current position, nationally and internationally, than as US president.

Donny is finding this out the hard way, i.e. he should have stayed the heck out of politics and back in Queens being a smart-mouth mafia front-guy and failing property speculator.

It should also be pointed out that with the one thing Trump actually did supposedly have experience with (i.e. business), he was actually a failure, with a string of bankruptcies and failed companies. He would likely never have been rich had he not benefited from having a wealthy father who's support helped him significantly.

On the other hand, Oprah started out in conditions might be considered poverty, and yet has managed to build a financial and media empire that rivals Trump's. (She may even be wealthier, since Trump hasn't been forthcoming with his financial information, and he may not even be a billionaire.)

Not that I would want Oprah to be president. But, if the choice were between Oprah and Trump, Oprah would have much more going for her.

Might be?
Oprah Gail Winfrey was born to Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey on an isolated farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on January 29, 1954. Her name was supposed to be Orpah, from the Bible, but because of the difficulty of spelling and pronunciation, she was known as Oprah almost from birth. Winfrey's unmarried parents separated soon after she was born and left her in the care of her maternal grandmother on the farm.

As a child, Winfrey entertained herself by "playacting" in front of an "audience" of farm animals. Under the strict guidance of her grandmother, she learned to read at two and a half years old. She addressed her church congregation about "when Jesus rose on Easter Day" when she was two years old. Then Winfrey skipped kindergarten after writing a note to her teacher on the first day of school saying she belonged in the first grade. She was promoted to third grade after that year.

At six years old Winfrey was sent north to join her mother and two half-brothers in a Milwaukee ghetto, an extremely poor and dangerous neighborhood. At twelve years old she was sent to live with her father in Nashville, Tennessee. Feeling secure and happy for a brief period she began making speeches at social gatherings and churches, and one time earned five hundred dollars for a speech. She knew then that she wanted to be "paid to talk."
I've heard her refer to that farm as a sharecropper farm and I don't doubt that is what it was.

Hannity was spewing some crap tonight, any paper or news show with the headline: Oprah might run, he called them obvious liberal biased news.

Better qualified than Trump, simply by being more sane, but has promoted way too much woo for my liking.

I think we all need to think through these "litmus test" statements. I know a couple/several ardent free speech and rock and roll folks who were adamant about not supporting Gore because of Tipper's efforts on rating popular music. How'd that work out? We got eight years of Dubya.

Politics is the art of the compromise.

Do you actually think there's any position more influential than POTUS. We saw the Republicans First conservatives trying to downplay the role so that we'd all roll over and Go With The Trump.

I can't think of a position in our known world that is more powerful or influential.

Powerful, yes. Influential, not so much. If the position of POTUS was as influential as you believe, Rupert Murdoch would have already run for the job. But he hasn't. Why? He has more freedom to be more influential of world affairs from his own office than from the White House.

Being president actually stops you from planning and saying "You all get cars!" With so little blowback. As Donny is finding, it grinds his gears that there are so many restrictions and expectations that apply to the job of POTUS. He is getting roasted about the fact he still wants to run the USA like he did his own (crappy) business but can't. Oprah, on the other hand, can run Harpo and OWN as she likes.

It should be. Think about it.

The mission control guy or girl at NASA should probably have some experience with physics or space. I'm sure the CEO of Walmart knows a lot about management, but I wouldn't want them in mission control.

Rupert Murdoch was not born in the USA.

Most Evangelicals have no problem with Donald J. "Grab 'em by the pussy" Trump, even though he is as far from Christian as you can get without donning red leotards and carrying a pitchfork.
hey’ll vote for Roy Moore and splutter with rage about Al Franken. Of course it will make no difference to many of them what state Trump’s personal life is if they can go after Oprah Winfrey’s.

ETA: I think you mean a trident rather than a pitchfork. ;)
I've always heard it referred to as a 'pitchfork'.

Granted, it could be considered a 'trident', but when I hear that term, I tend to think "Poseiodon, god of the Sea" rather than "the devil".

So what to folks expect when a group is faced with voting for someone that tells them what they want to hear but is an obvious liar or will do what they want but is a reprobate and someone that tells them what reprobates they are and that what they want is stupid and hateful?

Granted, the stupid bit is that they tie themselves in knots trying to justify voting for reprobates and liars when they ought just admit thats what they're doing.

They’ll vote for Roy Moore and splutter with rage about Al Franken.
All the sputtering outrage about Franken came from the left.
No, no it didn't.

For, example, Trump (you know, the racist Republican currently occupying the white house) tweeted:
The Al Frankenstien picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words
...
And to think that just last week he was lecturing anyone who would listen about sexual harassment and respect for women.

Or how about the statement from Tom Emmer, a Republican politician:
I am pleased Senator Franken made the right decision for the great state of Minnesota and our country. Elected officials hold the trust of the constituents they represent, and it is crucial we cherish and honor that trust. I am hopeful this will move our society towards better behavior.

So yeah, there were politicians on the political right who were critical of Franken's behavior.

If I were to characterize it, I'd say she started out in poverty. But, I know that there are different standards for poverty in the world. So, I wanted to be proactive and eliminate any chance someone might say "she wasn't in poverty... compare her to the people born in the 3rd world".

Either way, she has shown way more business-savvy than Trump has. And she has a much more Compelling story than Trump...

Oprah: "I was born to a single mother, had to live in areas with gang activity, but managed to become a billionaire, as well as being a notable actress".

Trump: "I was born in a rich family. I got millions of dollars to start out with thanks to my family. Then when my casino business started to have difficulty I got several million more from my dad. Then I inherited millions of dollars. Still, I had multiple failing businesses, and ended up trying to fleece dozens of people from their savings by setting up Trump University, even though I claim to be really rich and shouldn't have needed the money".

You know, there is one advantage to Oprah running for presidency... they can re-use all of the Obama 'O with stripes" logos/signs.
