If I claim that you paid Stop & Shop supermarket for milk recently, is that claim made more credible if I open your refrigerator and find Stop & Shop brand milk there? Is the fact that Stop & Shop brand milk is currently in your refrigerator evidence that you paid Stop & Shop recently?
No. Stop & Shop was giving milk away that day, funded by the dairy to increase brand awareness. In the current case, the Russians might have been "encouraged" to provide evidence to Steele or they might even have paid them to cooperate with Steele as part of their overall effort to get Trump elected.

Since even cable companies use public infrastructure, require all TV outlets to carry a minimum number of minutes of free ads every election cycle.
You got a link for that? Equal time, yes, but I didn't think it was free air time.

Oystein, make it a condition that if he loses, he has to admit it in the most active Trump thread at the time.

It's quite rude to butt into other people's contracts. There's actually a legal term for that: tortious interference.

Seemed like an appropriate ask to me. If you're wrong you'll need to admit it.

Do you find fault with that? I'm sure Oystein won't have a problem admitting when he's wrong. I know I wouldn't.

I've always been quite willing to admit it if I am shown to be wrong. I'm a little out of practice, of course, but I blame the competition here for that.

This is off-topic, but...

Since even cable companies use public infrastructure...

This generally isn't true. It's one of the reasons cable and internet companies lobby a city so hard for a regional monopoly; they don't want to spend millions laying down cable only to have a competitor use it for free.

Hehe well his paying me $100 amounts to admitting. I'll post proof he payed ;)

So if the Trump campaign broke the law, assisted the Russians interfering in the election, and that included flooding social media with fake stories in addition to ads (which being placed by a foreign power are illegal), supplied voter data information such as that obtained by the RNC to the Russians ... none of that tainted the election?

That is a very good demonstration of the rule of so, Ginger. Thank you.

My city demanded concessions, public access and the like. But I don't hear much about how this later created a monopoly on broadband. What a cash cow that must be.

ETA: The cable companies could create those opportunities, but equal time is not a thing anymore. The FCC fairness doctrine was revoked. Wiki:
Fairness doctrine

I'd like to see programs without the screaming and ax jobs routinely done on both Trump and Clinton or whoever else. What are Mueller's ties to Hillary, why do some people think it's OK and others frame Mueller as completely compromised? These panel shows just turn into he said-she said shouting matches. Is that what the public wants? Maybe so.

I had this thought last night: Whatever you think of Trump, he really did get elected. He is the President. And that's a remarkable achievement. It took a lot of chutzpah to throw his hat in the ring, and he made it work, despite breaking all the rules. So I accept that Trump means something to people, including members of my family who thinks he's great. Tells it like it is. I'm a little concerned about my nephew who has bought the Trump message hook, line and sinker. Don't underestimate how good he is at channeling the complaints of resentful white people. There are quite a lot of them. They're not a majority, but they may be a plurality.

Although if Sessions starts enforcing federal marijuana laws, which he would love to do, Trump's support might drop like a rock. It's a bipartisan issue: Boomers want their weed. And young people too. Liberal/conservative doesn't matter. Use is becoming normalized, at least in a few states, and people are beginning to like it that way. Any challenge/assault on that is going to raise hackles.

Hail to the chief: cyclist gives Trump the middle finger!

It could be for a number of reasons, but I think his Access Hollywood comments are beginning to sink in at a time when many members of the public are starting to see how sleazy it is for a man to start pawing a woman, grabbing her by the whatever, taking advantage of fame. It barely made a dent during the election but I think public opinion on such sexual abuse has been heightened by the recent scandals involving Harvey Weinstein, Bill O'Reilly, Cosby et al. This is something that many people used to see as the way of the world: Powerful men demand sex, that's life, toughen up, snowflake. I don't think that's the prevailing thought anymore. People are sick of sexual predators.

He is a populist whose agenda appealed to working classes and the money bags crowd. What he intended to do is another matter. I think it just took a little confidence, a lot of $, twitter and a small vocabulary to do the hat in the ring part. Plus enormous ego. No skill was needed. The electoral college did the rest.

He also exploited years of the Republican party complaining the system was broken and Washington was incapable of getting things done and then being utterly taken by surprise by the fact that the voters believed them and went for a populist outsider.
