Do you think there is anything left of this case other than the occasional side show? Are you hanging everything now on Amanda's case to the ECHR? As Bill points out, the PGP keeps talking about how things will fall horribly wrong for Amanda and Raffaele and yet each time they fall the other way.

My complaint is this - we were promised that Mignini's defamation suit would finally expose all the lies. Now it's just a side show.

There is more to this than meets the eye.

Well, there wasn't a proper hearing, was there? If, as was reported, the parties were ordered to try to settle, it could be Mignini was paid off, but in strict confidence (a gagging clause) which is very common, where neither party admits liability or claims victory. However, as it emanated as a court process, the person getting the settlement has to consent to calling off the court process (usually part of the settlement agreement). However, that has to be done via a court hearing.

As nothing happened in court apart from a judge sitting alone (no tribunal of judges, as is usual) who dismissed the case, it does suggest it was settled outside court.

The news article makes no mention that the Mignini defamation lawsuit was settled apart from the police suit and out of court. I would think it would, if it had been.

IIRC the defamation charge against Knox's parents is still active, despite Knox being herself acquitted on essentially the same charge.

Each case is tried on its own merits.

If the parents have been charged, then it can't be dismissed without a hearing, even if it is only 'in chambers'. IOW it needs a sitting judge to 'dismiss' the charge.

Or the statute of limitations to run out.
