Who is this 37% who approves of him? How can that large of a minority of the country be that stupid? It's still a minority but what the hell?

The Mickey Mpuse Republicans. Republicans who would support Mickey Mouse if was a member of the GOP and was in the White House.

Yes but I just realized what he really means!
He said "the highest taxed country in the world", not "the highest TAX RATE"!

If you look at TOTAL TAX REVENUE by country you will see the the USA collects WAY MORE taxes than any other country in the world!!!!
(just reset the table to show total tax revenue in US dollars)

In his mind he is NOT lying, just telling it like it is!

Never mind that this makes no sense as far as economics, he saw it on the chart!

Its just like with the nuclear weapons. The chart he saw showed we have way fewer than we used to, why shouldn't we have MORE??!

It's also interesting the way the GOP changes their tune to suit their narrative.

Socialist countries are over-taxed, that's why socialism is bad.
Now all of a sudden we are taxed more than said socialist countries.

Which is it right-wingers?

It's a self-preservation function of the human mind. Once you believe something—Trump is great—to admit to yourself that was wrong is painful. So you simply keep believing your original belief. The human brain is perfectly capable of believing false things.

Nothing he says and nothing he does matters to them. He is Republican. That is the only thing that matters. There's no shortage of people posting on this forum who make that combination of rigidity and blindness abundantly clear.

Then there is the brain's rationalization feature: Trump found God, God brought the country Trump, all that fake news really is fake. Trust in the Lord.

And to reinforce that fantasy: 3 hurricanes and devastating fires, all in sin cities (or brown ones). God's on a roll.

Not if Mickey Mouse was black.

Sure they would, as long as black Mickey Mouse is "one of the good ones." They love Ben Carson, and loved Bill Cosby because these black men told the "truth" about how lazy black people are.

His unfounded assertion that prior presidents did not call the families of fallen soldiers is an especially repugnant lie.

Trump is losing his skill as a con man.Good Con Men don't tell lies so easily disproven.
The one about Obama has already been torn to shreds

But it's working just fine for the target audience. They don't listen to fake news anyhow, just Breitbart, and if they want a second more liberal opinion, Fox.

"This Twitter user's tweets are protected." You don't suppose she got a little pushback, do you?

I wonder why?

Surprised she didn't just delete the account.

About 80% of Republicans and somewhere around a third of Independents. He's not fringe, just incredibly polarizing. It's unsurprising that Republicans generally like the man on policy, but their favorable view of his personal attributes is downright disturbing.

I want to believe that the Hanoi Hilton tweet was just satire... Unfortunately, I think it is a sincere post by a typical Trump supporter.

About 18 minutes ago on MSNBC it was noted that A) a number of psychiatrists are ready to certify trumpf as certifiable and, B)thanks to the 25th Amendment his cabinet can remove him with reason (as in psychiatrists find him to be a nut with missing screws!!!!!)!!!

I am definitely looking forward to this - if it happens!!!!!

Yes I brought this up a couple of months ago.

That said, Sarah Huckabee Sanders specifically referred to US corporate tax rates being the highest in the world. Of course everything could change tomorrow.

It's "interesting" that US corporate tax rates are "the highest in the developed world" (they're not AFAIK but I'll let that go for now) and yet the share of federal tax revenue paid by corporations has fallen from around 30% in the 1950's to single digits these days. It's clear that whatever the corporate tax rate, US companies aren't seeming to pay the proportion of tax they used to. I presume this is a combination of tax avoidance and generous tax breaks.

Trump's tax cuts could be somewhat deficit neutral if it was linked to abolishing exemptions and loopholes.
Not a chance of happening, of course.

I'm not sure the loopholes are that big and in any case the whole purpose of tax cuts is to make sure that the rich have more money so that in theory it can trickle down. To pay for this tax cut for the very wealthy, taxes on everyone else would have to rise significantly to compensate.

If there's no tax cut for the wealthy then why bother with it at all ? No tax cuts for the wealthy means no trickle-down, indeed no economic stimulus at all.

I don't think party has much to do with it. 30-40% of the populace sees a changing culture and economy that is leaving them behind. Gay marriage. LGBT rights. The internet damaging mom-and-pop stores and big ones too (Sears). Having to compete globally. Racial and gender equality. It's all hard to wrap one's head around but they just know that they're getting the short end of the stick.

Trump is just as angry as they are. He pissed at the forces that (he wrongly things) cause change, just like them. He speaks his mind - which is a disaster - but the downtrodden see at as taking it to The ManTM. They like his tough stance towards other countries, even though that is just another disaster; he disdains diplomacy, just like they do.

So Trump's their man. He could be a Dem or a Libertarian or a Know-Nothing, it wouldn't matter in today's political climate. We're in a post-factual era and nobody does post-factual like Trump.
