CNN Doxxes a gif maker

I have posted three links that says otherwise, and the fact that CNN has not released his name shows:

EXTORTION WORKS.

It is hard.to know extortion took place when without additional evidence, someone apologizing because of their conscious and because they being coerced look the same. We don't know his state of mind.

This is correct. All we really know is that Hans is living up to his middle name, but we could change that to chicken ****. He doesn't have the courage of his convictions and wants to post anonymously and get all the back pats from his miscreant brethren (and cistern?) but when it comes time for him to do an Ellsberg or Manning? "Sniffle snivel sniff, I'm so sorry. I'm not like that at all. I didn't mean all those bad things."

I'm with Damo.... they should out him. Every anonymous poster who hides behind their anonymity to post hateful stuff should be outed. (Yes, you various arguers, that includes me. If I start posting that kind of crap, you have my permission to publish my actual details - enough people here know them.)

While not an oxymoron, I do find "Anonymous Free Speech" to be a bit of a dichotomy. How far would the meme have travelled if "Yesterday, some anonymous guy in the House of Burgesses said, "As for me, give me liberty or give me death" "?

@TBD... Their reserving the right is a polite way of saying, "Lookit, we're not sure that you're actually suffering guilt pangs or just suffering from the remorse of having everyone know that you're that ******* guy, but we'll give you the benefit of the doubt,.... for now. If this thing goes any farther and you're just jiving us, we'll do the journalistic correct thing and publish what we have."

Your entire line of reasoning (and I use the word in its loosest sense) is from the Momo Giancana Chicago School. Snitches deserve stitches. Why the Hell would anyone give a rat's ass that some bigot gets exposed for being a bigot?

I'm having a hard time seeing the "extortion."

If HAS* is really super committed to continuing his anonymous bigoted ****posting jihad, all he needs to do is set up a new account under a different name and there's nothing the Big Bad Meanies at CNN can do.

* So named because, contrary to the Fake News in the OP, he hasn't been doxxed

I think everyone who condones CNNs behaviour in this case should post their real name and adress in this thread.

I mean you aren't saying anything you wouldn't say in real life right? Also this is just a single thread in a niche subforum on a niche site. So it's nowhere near the same ballpark as an international media organisation threatening to publish your name.

But for some wierd reason i suspect not many people will follow this invitation. But I am quite curious what the excuses are.

Are you really quite curious? You haven't read them before? We've had this discussion in numerous threads and in X years of lurking you haven't encountered it? Or do you just assume you have the answer and that formulation is actually rhetorical?

Just for the record, various people have various reasons.

We have people posting about issues that they have knowledge of through their employment. They would prefer to be Joe Blow, patent attorney or Mary Meldrum, electrical engineer. Meh? I was Foolmewunz, logistics professional. But I often spoke out on practices in the China trades, ethical standards, etc... that I have direct information on from my former job. My name is very well known in my industry and is associated with the supply chain management of several huge corporations. Any comment under my real name about shady practices in sourcing would be assumed to apply to Great Big Amalgamated, Inc. or to Ubiquitous Omnipotent Retailers, Ltd.

And the cases are quite different, anyway. With only one or two exceptions there aren't members here posting bigoted anti-semitic racist posts. There's quite a difference between hiding your identity so you can spew venom and hiding your identity because, say, the clone in the next cubicle beat up the last transgender person he encountered. Would I approve of outing an atheist in Biblethump, Arkansas? Probably not.

Meh? I try not to post idiotic things that my friends and/or professional acquaintances would find, well, idiotic. I have the same conversations on these boards that I have over a beer or coffee with people in meat space.

Right. I'm actually just the same in real life.

No you're not. You know full well how insane some people are and how anonymity decreases the risk of them finding you after a disagreement.

This like saying,"I believe people have the right to solve puzzles" and you replying with,"then why don't you announce the solution?"

You are free to dox us. We are free to not make it easy for you.

The day I post something that the POTUS tweets, I expect the press will try to discover who I am, and rightly so. I would also expect my name to be published, rightly so, unlike the character in question. Which renders your inferred claim of hypocrisy null and void.

There is zero difference.

To amoral individuals, perhaps. To the rest of us, we can actually see a difference.

If I post as anonymous on local politics, here and you post anonymous for local politics where you are, do you think there might be a difference in what we have to worry about?

Not every scenario can be reduced to nonsensical socratic dialogues.

That doesn't make sense. Why should the president's actions, rather than your own, justify making your identity public? That's a completely irrational standard.

Which renders your inferred claim of hypocrisy null and void.

Sure, your standard isn't hypocritical. But it is complete nonsense.

The differences you see, regardless of their merits, are not the differences other people will see.

As I've said before, whatever line you imagine you can draw between the good and the bad will not be recognized by the braying mob.

Morality is so individual that to proscribe the actions of other's based on your own morals is a fool's errand.

They haven't released his name, so no doxxing. Neither you nor I have any idea who this clown is.

Sorry, no doxxing. Fake news.

I have posted three separate sources stating that doxxing does not require the public release of the information. Here CNN is using the threat of releasing the guy's identity in order to ensure his continuing compliance with their posting standards.

Pure doxxing.

I'm not sure anyone bothered to read my links. Instead people declare "no doxxing. Fake news."

Oh well.

I did read it and told you it was adequate.
