The Trump Presidency

There are no employees in the science department of the White House.

The science division of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) was unstaffed as of Friday as the three remaining employees departed this week, sources tell CBS News.

All three employees were holdovers from the Obama administration. The departures from the division -- one of four subdivisions within the OSTP -- highlight the different commitment to scientific research under Presidents Obama and Trump.*

Under Mr. Obama, the science division was staffed with nine employees who led the charge on policy issues such as STEM education, biotechnology and crisis response. It's possible that the White House will handle these issues through staff in other divisions within the OSTP.

On Friday afternoon, Eleanor Celeste, the assistant director for biomedical and forensic sciences at the OSTP, tweeted, "Science division out. Mic drop" before leaving the office for the last time.

I disagree. It's comparatively rare for a sitting president not to get re-elected. Right now 40% of the U.S. think he's doing a fine job, add in a few more who would vote GOP regardless and add in some targeted voter suppression and electoral roll purges and you have a clear path to victory ESPECIALLY if the Democratic Party assume that all their candidate has to be is "not Trump" to guarantee success.

They're enough to keep the GOP in control of the House and Senate and enough to get him re-elected next time unless the Democratic Party offer a tempting alternative.
Excluding POTUSes that died in office, 21 did not serve a second term either because they lost the election, weren't renominated or didn't seek another term.

Exactly, and what chance that

- Trump won't seek re-election (hint: hes' campaigning already) ?
- He won't get re-elected with an 80% approval rating ?

Nooo, by 2020 trump will have weakened the US government so much that a coalition of corporate leaders will take charge to reinvigorate and streamline the government. On a purely temporary and emergency basis, of course.

Well, you don't want the government discovering things, then just anyone can use them

All scientific discoveries should be made by private interests so they can be rigorously protected as IP and only the discoverer (or, rather the corporation that owns the discoverer) can make money from them

More importantly we don't want the Executive Branch, and especially the Leader of the Free World to be making informed decisions based on solid, documentable evidence...

... or anything else silly like that.
