Destroyed Atlantis = Menorah

Can you quote Plato assigning a date to the Younger Dryas? It has been a while since I've read him.

"Plato (c.424–328 B.C.) describes it as a powerful and advanced kingdom that sank, in a night and a day, into the ocean around 9,600 B.C."

Please read the evidence presented in the thread before posting...Asking people to repeat themselves because you are lazy is rude.

Anyone here ever been to the Scab Lands?

A massive glacial lake broke loose scouring 1000's of sq miles in a massive flood...an asteroid came apart...microspherules can be found in the sedimentary layer dated to 11,500 years ago.

NOTE: Does not contain evidence linking Atlantis to the menorah, or addressing the documented problems (detailed in post 828) so this post can be completely ignored with no actual impact to the conversation at hand.

<snip of drivel>

Maybe you could look into dichotomy's...it is the ability to hold TWO thoughts in your head at the same time.

YES, Jewish people worship a "meaningless" object. As proof of its meaningless, I have presented the FACT that the 'object' to be "worshipped" has changed. Lamps to candle holders, 7, "because some wanted to use it outside the temple, they ADDED lights" became 8, 9, or 15.
<snip of more drivel>.

Point of fact: Dichotomy is two OPPOSING IDEAS, not the ability to hold two thoughts in your head at the same time. Example: An astronaut or astronomer who believes the Earth is flat is a dichotomy.

Point of fact: Jewish people do not worship the menorah. It has 7 points of light on it (whether they're using a candelabra arrangement or one in lamp form); it is used on special occasions and when used on the these occasions, NEVER has more or less than 7 points of light. Other occasions do require other items which may or may not have more or less points of light.

Point of observation: You are not Jewish.

Point of observation: You seem to be a troll.

Point of deduction: If you are not a troll, you have some reading and reasoning comprehension difficulties.

Yes, worshipping a meaningless object is a dichotomy. *Building an idol is the first form of worship.*

To everyone else: Note I got ignored on my first try.

And all I did was point out that KotA doesn't understand a word's definition, that he made false claims and did not understand a religion of which he is obviously not a member. (Oh, yeah, I also made some observations and a deduction. Apparently, when I hit a nerve....)

How many points for me?

Also, will someone explain to me why he thinks being ignored by him is some sort of punishment?

I would also like to point out that KotA changed how he was using dichotomy. In the post to which I was replying, it was a passive-aggressive insult to another poster and in his response to my correction, he tried to make part of his 'worship' paragraph, which occurred after the dichotomy comment.

desmirelle,

You are on my ignore list for invoking the "t" word.

If you feel as though you have been judged harshly, you may file an appeal, by PM'ing me.

POINT OF FACT: Replying to my post is NOT IGNORING ME.

Point of opinion: Your judgment and ten dollars will get me a drink at Starbucks with enough to tip the barista.

Why would I PM a TROLL? If I want to deal with a troll, I've a neighbor I can go talk to in person.....you seem to be under the delusion that you ignoring someone is a bad thing. Given your train of "thought", it's a good thing.

I certainly have read this thread. I also read the post quoted above. No where have you posted what I asked for. I guess you were in an impossible position. How could you post a quote from Plato assigning a date to the Younger Dryas when you've never read Plato and don't know what the Younger Dryas is.

But it does matter. It is true that Plato assigns a rough time for when Atlantis is destroyed in his story. It is also true that the same time in the real world was contained within, roughly at the end of, the climatological period we call the Younger Dryas. It matters that Plato does not discuss this period by name nor by its characteristics. Had he said that some 9000 years before his life, there was a period of cooling characterized by a change in ocean currents, etc, it might be of interest. All you are doing is looking up what the name of the period that coincidences with the story of Atlantis and claiming Plato knew about it.

At that time, Plato would have no way of knowing what happened 9000 years previously except, while very unlikely, if it survived as a vaguely remembered legend......

Well of course. I'm just commenting on KotA claim that Plato knew the "date" of the Younger Dryas. His descriptions of the environment of the time is not consistent with the geological record.

The Younger Drayas was a period of over a thousand years. There was sea level rise during this period, it is true. Plato's description of the death of Atlantis did not involves centuries of sea level rise. It was a rapid disaster with volcanoes and flooding.

AND the Younger Dryas was a recent discovery...so named.

Plato would not have referred to it as such.

Ummm... No.

We knew about Plato many many many years ago. As you can see in this thread, many believe the tale to be myth. Because no such sinking occurred, globally or locally.

I've posted photographs of sunken ruins, and the recent discovery of this Younger Dryas period coincides with Plato's date.

How many more facts must be verified before Plato escapes your mythical massaging?

What is your argument exactly? That Plato didn't properly predict the name the discovery was to be called?

I don't understand what it is you are arguing...

To everyone else: Note I got ignored on my first try.

Yeah, yeah, you don't have to rub my nose in it. You clearly win.

Also, will someone explain to me why he thinks being ignored by him is some sort of punishment?

No clue. I think he also enjoys imagining that we're going to come crawling to him begging to be taken off the list.

Which is what we have...

Legend, myth, but like Troy, evidence to its reality have been unearthed.

The end of this period is marked by floods...

The flooding took 24 hours.

The date Plato used is accurate given our dating abilities.

He can't - there was no repository of data that would still be useable to any functional degree after 9000 years for Plato to find a usable piece of info like that.
