I'm having a hard time seeing how this isn't obstruction of justice. And I'm pretty sure that obstruction of justice is impeachable. Whether Congress has the stones to stand up and say "No more", though, is yet to be seen.

Keep in mind Trump has been in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution. That alone is just cause for Impeachment. And no one has the guts to stand up to him.

It was over 2 years between the Watergate break-in and the Supreme Court ordering the release of the "smoking gun" tape. Nixon resigned two weeks later.

Trump's next move is likely to be telling America that Comey's notes are lies. He will say that he never told Comey to back away from Flynn. He will say this knowing that there are no tapes showing that he is lying.

He might even end up saying, "OMG, you mean there wasn't any recording going on? A recording would have proved that I never said that to Comey".

If election day is President's Day in February, then the inauguration doesn't have to be in the cold of January.

He'll probably resign (which I think he may be looking for an excuse to do anyway) and be a toxic commodity for all but the lowest of the basic cable channels. He'll brand will be in ruins. The election can't be in February; a significant amount of the country is still subject to the possibility of severe winter storms throughout February, and occasionally, though far less frequently, in March. While this can also apply to the inauguration, even if it did the only loss would be the public pomp; the newly elected occupant of the Oval Office can still take the oath and start the job.

For some reason I was thinking that Harrison died shortly after the start of his second term, but instead he died shortly after starting his first term.

Yes and No.

Watergate was a very slowly building story. Little tidbits were added to the story a little at a time. I lived through it. I was a politically active teenager at the time. Clearly a good portion of his Senior Staff were involved. But no one really talked of Impeachment of Nixon for a long while.

I've been refreshing my memory by reading almost everything I can on Watergate lately. (Because of Trump) And it all has come flooding back on me. The Watergate hearings made minor celebrities of people like Sam Ervin and Fred Thompson. It was his question to White House assistant Alexander Butterfield that inevitably led to Nixon's resignation.
