Good morning The Greater Fool

I know. Unfortunately it's more like the scene from "The Dead Zone"

Which is just silly the president doesn't need any agrement from the military to launch a nuclear first strike, they have the authority to do that it is a fundamental part of the job. Every since the army dropped the second atomic bomb on a japanese city with out bothering to tell the president they were going to do that. And Truman was foolish enough to believe them that Hiroshima was a military base. The fool

If Obama had let him go, there would have been charges that he was stalling the Clinton investigation.
That's right. It would have raised a giant gnashing of teeth, especially at Fox. But that doesn't matter, Obama should have done the right thing and fired him at once then just taken the heat.

Are you joking? The FBI's conducting an investigation in the matter and seemed poised to up their efforts, and apparently everybody involved in the administration has unusual ties with Russia or Putin personally. Add the hacking incident and Trump's fawning over Putin, and you don't find that a tad suspicious?

Not at all Russia is really the way Conservatives want this country run. They get it right on God, Guns and Gays after all.

He'd be worse than Arpaio.

Taking the opportunity to post a few things I've been hearing on Twitter (not my usual preferred news source, but I do follow it occasionally). I follow a few people who are ex govt or who retweet people who are. I also "bunny trail" from their feeds to other interesting tweets I find there.

I emphasize (for pedants and the passive-aggressive types) that all of this is rumor at this point, barring any further evidence to come.

In summary:
  • Comey firing timed deliberately to catch him out of office and to gain immediate access to his files.
  • Rank and file agents livid over firing
  • Comey not as flat-footed as reports claim. Knew it was coming but they acted faster than he expected.

  • Of course he failed to appreciate the true meaning of Loyalty Day, the ending of any investigations into anything related to presidential misconduct.

I don't know much about him.
But if he has the capacity to trash the FBI, he'll be Trump's choice.

Clarke once said if he could he'd send a million American citizens to GITMO.

He also has no few suspicious Russian connections himself.

Not saying Trump is near clever or subtle enough to do this purposely, but...

Trump could nom Rudy knowing he will not make it through confirmation. GOP could drag their feet in confirmation hearings and vote, could take months. Ultimately, the GOP Lawmakers would get a 'win' for standing up to Trump by not confirming (perhaps even with Trumps back channel approval). In the mean time, nothing get's done on the investigation for the entire time.

Repeat with the next unacceptable nominee.

Plus, as a bonus, all eyes are on Trump, it would be a ratings bonanza.

Mulder is getting too close to the truth, so Cancer Man gets Skinner fired.

Meanwhile, Scully has a back-alley abortion of her alien fetus because the last PP-clinic was closed down.

As I said above, the theory is that they wanted Comey out of the office so they could get immediate and unsupervised access to his computer and files.
It's terrible theory. For one thing, the FBI Director being out of the office does not mean that the office is either open or unguarded. In fact, obtaining access is likely more difficult since fewer people would have an excuse to enter. For another, all that would be required to get Comey out of the office is a call from the Oval Office requesting his presence.

One other possibility I considered is that the Rosenstein memo was sincere, even if Trump himself was not and merely used it as a convenient pretext (until this point he was seen as an honest broker, confirmed with 94 votes in the Senate iirc).

I consider the Rosenstein memo to be sincere because it lays out the case for Comey's errors in a correct (as far as I can tell) and detailed manner. The only thing that doesn't make sense is the date.

[Tin foil hat warning!]

Did he write that memo contemporaneously but someone changed the date to May of this year then forward it to Sessions as the cover Trump needed for the firing? Makes as much sense as other aspects of this mess.

the whole narrative is false and you know it.

Do you honestly believe Trump is in cohoots with Russia? Flynn (fired by Trump) investigation and indeed every liberal media outlet is just dying to undermine Trump's presidency, it's as simple as that. But go ahead, keep lapping it up.

15 separate US law enforcement and intelligence agencies, backed up by at least one foreign intelligence agency and multiple independent media say you are wrong.

I mentioned this in a previous post, but I do (tend to) think that Rosenstein's memo was sincere, and Trump may have simply seen it as a convenient pretext.

I think that name should be Sessions. It was Sessions that saw the memo and obviously grasped that it gave not only Trump but he, Sessions, himself a possible way out of what Comey was going toward. Remember, Sessions himself is one of those who lied about Russian connections during the 2016 campaign.

This will still require a significant swing to the Democratic Party and as the Vox article points out, staunch GOP voters are the ones most likely to turn out for midterms. It's not impossible for the Democratic Party to control the House, for sure, but I think it's still unlikely and of course the GOP will control the Senate and have the President and SCOTUS locked down and so have 2 1/2 of the three branches locked down.

Under normal conditions, that is true. These aren't normal conditions.

Yes and Democrats will have the opportunity to take the Senate and the Presidency (and the House if they haven't already) in 2020.

Of course what we are all ignoring is the threat from the states. If Democrats don't make headway in taking back the state Houses, we could be looking at a Convention of the States that removes DC from the equation altogether. It also removes the PEOPLE from the equation as the State legislatures are the only ones who vote to propose and the only ones to vote on ratification of the Amendments generated by a CotS.

Either way, Republicans and Democrats vowed the House and Senate Intelligence Committees' investigations into the Russia claims would continue.
We learned earlier this week that the Senate has NO staff assigned to the investigation, NO extra resources to pursue various leads and NO money allocated to the effort. That stands in stark contrast to the FBI investigation which has all three of those assets. To equate the two is foolish or extremely partisan. You chose.

Not at all Russia is really the way Conservatives want this country run. They get it right on God, Guns and Gays after all.

I'm pretty sure Russia has some very strict laws on Guns but they definitely got 2 out of 3. God also might be a bit of a question mark.

Perhaps logger assumes that anyone who doesn't actively disagree with him, is part of a silent majority who agrees with him. There are 1200 or so regular posters here and maybe 50-100 have ever disagreed with logger. That means that the other 1100-1150 are in agreement :boggled: :boggled:

I believe logger was talking about the people of the U.S., not the people in this forum.

Of course, given Trump's approval rating, it seems unlikely that most Americans agree with logger. But you know, polls are fake news.
