Teenage bullies turned old religious fanatics

Yes. ;)

I'm sorry, I did intend on writing more, but other matters needed my attention.

I don't get the same impression you did, so I was wondering if you could point out to posts that are equating Christianity with being a bully? Do you think I said such a thing as well? I think it's been clear that we're talking about how it appears that some bullies turned into religious fanatics and we're discussing why.

In the same way that Mohammed has changed lives?
Everyone knows Mohammed actually did stuff; Jesus was a pansy (assuming he existed of course).

Interesting how Christ may have changed these lives like he has so many times. Of course here it's missed completely

Hey g'day logger. Haven't seen yo around for a while. Hope all is well.:)

So you think your Christ may have changed the lives of these dudes for the better? Interesting that in the account Cainkane gave it was just the bullies who were the fundies. So Christ favors bullies then?

Maybe they continued to be jerks after they graduated and went on to do a bunch of terrible things. Now that they are getting old, they might just be "cramming for the final."

Time to take out the trash- with extreme prejudice. Should never be an out for such as those, just a removal. Nor redemption.

I love the fact that in this thread, "Christian" is considered synonymous with "Abusive". It's like no-one's even questioning that connection.

Well, I was about to say that I wanted to emphasize the one way relationship.

I know a lot of Christians, as I'm sure we all do. Most of them aren't bullies. However, I do think that an awful lot of bullies would be attracted to the fundamentalist form of religion.

In other words, I don't think being a Christian is likely to make someone a bully, but I do think that a bully would find a home in the "hellfire and damnation" aspects of Christianity. Similarly with Islam. Their bullying can find a home condemning other people for what they do.

ETA: And, in my previous post I did specifically say that there were certain denominations of Christianity that bullies would not find appealing.

This.
I think we have to be very careful about attributing a cause-and-effect relationship here.
If we (by which I mean the apparent majority of posters here) object ot the idea that becoming an atheist and then going on to become a mass murderer is not a coincidence, then we should adopt the same stance with this idea.

Don't believe in god/heaven, but if I did, I would have to believe the fleetingly tiny time (god level) between then and now is quite insufficient for god to forget their great transgressions and harms caused. Flame on!!!!!

******** using their convenient belief system to ignore, excuse or whitewash their previous behaviour, and/or allow them to continue on with it in both tried and tested and/or new ways.

Tell them to go **** themselves with a splintery stick.

Alternatively they can buy your forgiveness by giving you the 10% of their weekly salary they give to the church.
Their god should understand, because if it is as powerful as they say it can magic up its own damn money for the church.

I much prefer the first option for them - up close and personal is the best reward - and distributing the very anonymously distributed video would be the icing on the cake!!!!!! With re-recording of the sounds they make so it sounds like they are loving it!!!!! No, there are people who need repair and exposure and when such happens I love it!!!! I am so glad I did not do the kind of evil the bullies did/do.

Or this is their way of atoning for their past misbehavior. That would account for a number of people in my family, including a Southern Baptist Preacher.

One relative killed some of our pets. As he grew older, he began using the phrase "your family that loves you" as an excuse for every abusive thing he did.

Beat a smaller sibling bloody a few times a month?: "Hey, I'm your family that loves you!"

Rape child relatives? "Hey, I'm your family that loves you!"

Drown a cat? "Hey, I'm your family that loves you!"

Beat a puppy to death with his fists? "Hey, I'm your family that loves you!"

By all I understand, he would have gone on to become a serial killer.

He became a devout Pentecostal instead. At least for a while.
I am thinking for him walking along a dark country road on a dark night, hit by a car that breaks both his legs knocking him off into high weeds and drives away. Nobody goes out to hunt for him. For days.

It appears that there is an astounding level of assumptions going on here for a so called skeptics site.

As is otherwise noticed, and pointed out, FUNDAMENTALIST religionists of any group are the problem. Doesn't matter what the religion is, the fundies are it's bed of filth, slime and rot.

The rest are concerned only with Saturday or Sunday at the most and it is just one of their social gatherings. They are not the problem.

In all fairness, I skirt that unintentionally sometimes to save a few words, but I really have no problem knowing and acknowledging the reality!!!!!

If he raped child relatives (even one) why is he not either dead or disabled in terrible ways?

My thoughts are that people change over time. You should talk to one of them about their faith. Tell them what you remember of their bullying and see what they think of that period of their lives now.

The few I encountered when adult had the same excuse : they were children, and it was all game, i should have known that etc...

I would not be surprised that the OP's bullies are the same. religious faith does not make people more wise, or even empathic in my experience.

Like most things, some it helps, some it appears to excuse the evils they do by it's claims of forgiveness. Thus, it's claims of forgiveness!!!

Generally, in my experience, good people are good whatever their faith or lack of it and bad people are bad whatever their faith or lack of it.
