Buckingham Palace - what's going on?

One of my adult daughters who is staying over with granddaughter Charlotte (Amy liked the name and had no idea of the royal connection) was puzzled by my reference to "Phil the Greek" and "Betty Windsor". It was great because I then had the opportunity to recount the genealogy of the Royal Family and the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family tree. ;)

The Queen will not do that. At least not until her oldest son is dead for the reason you mentioned. With luck the Queen's eldest grandson will be able to maintain the sovereignty. After all it is good for the country.

No, you weren't agreeing with me. We'll also miss his sheer rudeness, his incredibly short temper, his arrogance, his foul language and so on. I've been in his company for 3 or 4 hours, I'd guess, and he remains one of the most outstandingly and memorably obnoxious humans I've ever had the misfortune to meet. The mask slipped for 10 or 15 minutes of that time. There's something else, too, which belongs in the "Secrets you can never tell" thread. You'll just have to trust me on that one............it's not good.

Then I obviously did misunderstand you. Your position has been somewhat clarified.
 
I met him once, for - I was going to say a couple of minutes but it was less than that. I was receiving my gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Holyrood Palace.

He was gauche and said daft, insensitive things. And that was in a standard line-up of young people being handed awards. I mean, how hard can it be just to say well done and move on?

Given the path the queen followed to become Queen and given her rock solid belief in her divinity the idea she would ever consider abdication is rather fanciful.

No wonder my buddy the USN pilot liked him when they met in Hong Kong. One frat boy to another I guess.

If it makes you feel better my son got a sort of revenge for you when he got his.

He's a friendly, chatty guy, and when the DOE came to his group and asked what they'd done, my son mentioned hiking through India. DOE said something like 'India, harumph, jolly good' and started to move on. No chance. He was subjected to a long (in the context of the awards) description of hiking, mountain biking and kayacking and when he feigned some more interest and tried to escape, my son latched onto his comment and carried on. He got at least 5 minutes of chatter in before an aide managed to break them up. He didn't really get the protocol at the time, but most of the parents in the audience did, and there was a lot of quiet giggling going on.

In fairness to the DOE, he was terribly polite the whole time.
 
Seems an odd thing to require an all-hands emergency meeting over, but what do I know.
