Cont: President Trump: Part 3

A country, like a corporation, can enter legally binding agreements.
The US is bound by its NATO obligations, and it is free to re-negotiate them, but it can't unilaterally decide to cancel its part of the deal without losing credibility in all its international negotiations.

But there is a wide gulf between "can't without losing credibility" and "can't". We actually can withdraw unilaterally, and it has zero legal binding on the people in the US government.

Nothing is "legally binding" on anyone at all. Laws against killing other people don't prevent people from killing rather they merely stipulate that people be punished for killing, as regulated by the relevant laws. In the same way nothing prevents countries, and their rulers, from breaking any and all agreements and treaties they or their predecessors may have entered.

As with laws any international treaty or agreement is only worth anything if the people expected to execute and obey them do so. Otherwise they cease to be meaningful.

There must be a common interest (or "self-interest") in upholding a Treaty. When those interests disappear, the Treaty does also. The US did that many times in the past, with the Aboriginal American Tribes...

I can't believe this kitten story is true. But a bunch of papers picked it up.

What part rings false?

I haven't dug into the whole scenario, and I haven't seen even a vid capture of the site (I get redirected to a porn site... the Internet knows me so well. ;) ), but my understanding is... teen codes mild anti-Trump humor/entertainment page game (kittehs attack Trump), Trump's legal team issues C&D letter, girl takes Trump name off of project but still gets pressure to kill the site. And here we are.

Remember... besides the new China trademarks, right around election day he renewed several hundred product trademarks for proposed "Central Park" tchotchkes. He doesn't even make all of them (I believe), just ties up the name (they're not even "Trump" branded). He certainly didn't review all the renewals that week... his legal staff would have taken care of that (hell... he's on record in court saying he doesn't even read all the property contracts he signs).

So it's not like a C&D against this girl would have taken any time out of his day... he may not even have been aware of it until after the first round of C&D letters. That's actually likely, now that I think about it.

He pays a legal team to be watch dogs/attack dogs. It's what they're for.

Now if you're saying it's all a hoax and there never was a kitteh/Trump slap fight game, well, I can't tell... there's porn on. :D

I would have sent back a letter telling them to Go **** themselves. See First Amendment. Political satire is protected speech.

But were you confidently aware of that when you were a 17 year old girl and the legal staff of the POTUS sent you a threatening letter?

:p

Actually, I take your point. What little I read mentioned her desire to eventually work for IIRC an "edgy" or somesuch tech company. Perhaps she wasn't aware... perhaps she was and just caved. Perhaps it's all "fakenews". :boggled:

Maybe it is, but Trump or the White House hasn't denied it. If it was fake, you would think we would have heard from that incontinent bunch.

I think she's beaten that dead horse to a fare-the-well, but...

...she never gave me the impression of "not caring" about the election results.

Curious if you could point out what gave you that impression.

Her attitude - and she can correct me if I'm wrong - is more along the lines of the good old Serenity Prayer.

And "Acceptance" is the stage of grief that some here seem to be having trouble attaining.

Not far off, and that's certainly part of it.

A lot of it is just straight up me being a person that values skeptical approaches to hot-button topics, and who abhors hypocrisy. That does, on occasion, put me in a position where my attack of bad logic and bad argumentation is perceived as support of a position. Plus, sometimes I' have trouble letting go of an argument, especially if I perceive that my point isn't being understood.

I'd say you guys need to work hard during the course of Trump's presidency not to accept him. Some things should not be accepted. Acknowledgement is enough.

Being whiny children who focus the next four years on stringing up every single out of context statement of Trumps as if it's a big deal isn't going to put you in a position to get him out of the white house.

FFS, learn from what went wrong honestly. Don't repeat the same mistake. If you spend the next few years constantly insisting that Trump won because all the people who voted for him are bigots and deplorable, or were conned and are just too stupid to realize it... I can almost guarantee that you'll leave me stuck with this idiot in charge for a second term.

Change your tactics.

So I see Fox and Raw Story have stories. Anyone else? Any evidence we can have confidence in?

I still wonder if the teen (or whomever) is behind it for publicity.

Well good thing most people here are focused on his lousy healthcare plan, possible Russian connections and constant lying instead of that. Of course I'm sure his apologists would like to pretend all the attacks on him are about remarks 'taken out of context'.

So just lie in other words?

Do you honestly believe that half the voters in the US are either bigots or idiots or both?

I do not honestly believe half of the voters in the US are bigots, idiots or both.

Sadly, I think many voters were apathetic or conned by a con.

With more evidence everyday of Russian influence on the election.
Maybe as closely as the Trump campaign members.

Emily's Cat, there is an incredible story going on right now.

Today, right now. Right this minute. Not about the Democratic Presidential
Nominee.

It is about the President of the United States. FFS!

There's also the capital gains tax cut masquerading as healthcare policy that is to be voted on soon. That wealthcare bill would be devastating to millions of Americans. But yes, let's continue the outrage at everyone noticing that the Republican party is lousy with bigots and racists.
