If Europe can't stand up to Russia without US help, Europe is too weak to deserve US help.

I'm really curious. If we aren't willing to help our allies from a defense perspective why in the hell do we need to increase our already massive defense budget?

But that was the tune at the end of the Benny Hill* show, where he played a lecherous old milkman, so I can't see how that's relav... oh.

I guess that didn't cross the Atlantic, if it did, I apologise on behalf of UK culture.

Benny Hill was on US TV back in the 1970s. The reference is not unknown.

As it happens....

So I guess he will send the Underse...

Which is not to say that it's not a slap in the face for NATO and a clear signal from the Trump administration but it doesn't seem to be clueless omnishambles that Dan Shapiro implies.
Clueless in the sense that Trump so far has nominated very few people at the Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary level.
Shannon is one of the few high level Obama nominees at State who wasn't fired.

Yup. I got the reference. I always considered Benny Hill to be Monty Python's retarded little brother though.

That's really unfair on Monty Python.

I can see how it might have been popular in the former Soviet Union.

I assume because the loss of collective security means when the US is attacked, there's not going to be a NATO to assist, thus the need to ensure defense in an environment of political isolation. The increase in military is preparation for shedding allies.

Needs more cowbell.

Everything can do better with more cowbell.

When the group[9] proceeded to record "Mississippi Queen", Pappalardi insisted on numerous takes. Growing weary, Laing started using the cowbell to count off the song. Pappalardi liked it so much he left it in the mix, creating the instantly recognizable intro to the song.[8]

More examples as to why I have stated for the record that Trump is unfit to be President of the United States.

Trump's credibility is shot

(CNN)Monday was a turning point for Donald Trump's credibility. He had fibbed about crowd numbers, and pushed crazy conspiracy stories about illegal voters. But continuing to claim that former President Obama ordered the wiretapping of Trump Tower, even after the sitting FBI and NSA directors made clear it was false, was a new low.

Tillerson plan to skip NATO, visit Russia puts allies on edge

Washington (CNN)The State Department scrambled Tuesday to suggest new dates for Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to attend a meeting of NATO foreign ministers after his plan to skip the annual gathering -- but travel to Russia -- came to light.

Generals come to State Department defense

Washington (CNN)A small army of retired three- and four-star generals launched a mission on Capitol Hill Tuesday: to defend the State Department against drastic budget cuts proposed by the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump's budget would increase military spending by about $54 billion dollars, while cutting the State Department's budget by $11 billion, or 28.7%, in large part by slashing aid and development funds.

Reducing the investment in diplomacy, aid and development will make the US ultimately less safe, argued retired four-star Gen. George Casey, the former commanding general in Iraq from 2004 to 2007.

White House backs off stock market boasts as Dow, Nasdaq drop

The White House on Tuesday backed off of previous attempts to tie the success of the stock market to its economic agenda as stocks slid.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said it wasn’t fair to judge the Trump administration’s economic policy based on the performance of the stock market.

President Trump, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and several White House aides previously claimed credit as the Dow Jones Industrial Index soared to record highs following Trump’s election and inauguration.

But as the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq each fell roughly 1 percentage point on Tuesday, Spicer said it wasn’t fair to judge the administration on the stock market.

I dunno about this, is it a credible story? Or a fabricated one to make the teen's website more popular?

Three weeks after the site went live, Lucy was served a cease and desist letter from Trump’s general counsel ...

The letter, confirmed by the Observer, reads exactly as you’d expect a Trump C&D would. It begins touting him as a “well-known businessman” and television star and boasts, “As I’m sure you’re aware, the Trump name is internationally known and famous.”

Of course, it might be possible that either the Observer was fooled, or the Observer is lying.

Does such a move have any legal support? Trump is a public figure, subject to fair ridicule.

In any event, a missed opportunity. The teen should've designed her site so that rather than punching the man, the kitties could instead grab him.

I'm thinking Lucy has heard of the Streisand Effect. Either that or Trump's lawyer hasn't.

I didn't think Trump had any credibility to begin with. Long before his election Trump demonstrated that the truth is irrelevant to him. That anyone would believe that lying piece of crap is beyond me. I have never in my entire life known anyone that lies as much as Trump. That anyone could think that he would change after he became President is a moron.

President Trump believes that most Americans don't know that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.

"Great president. Most people don't even know he was a Republican," Trump said while addressing attendees at the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner. "Does anyone know? Lot of people don't know that."

.....

Trump has a history of sending nasty letters. Sometimes the recipients cave. But if they don't, there's not much he can do about it. It's hard to believe his lawyers think they have any grounds for legal action. Maybe the kid should try to work "White House" or "President" into the name.

As I believe Donald to be a newcomer to "the Party of Lincoln"... I'm glad to see he's at least capable of learning something.

Looks like he wants to spread the word too...
"Let's take an ad, let's use one of those PACs," he said.

Now can we teach him how, when and why the two major parties in many ways traded places?
(teach me too... it was never of great concern, still isn't)

eta: My mistake... I forgot he also learned that healthcare was complicated.
