He did supply it. The very same certificate used to obtain a SS card or to obtain a passport. Twenty-something Republican secretaries-of-state found the provided documentation satisfactory enough to put B. Obama's name on the ballot in their states. That means that people who weren't satisfied were pinheaded enough to assume that a multi-state conspiracy among Republicans allowed Obama to get on the ballot with insufficient documentation. War hero John McCain even stated that Obama was eligible.

The idea that he wasn't eligible is so laughable that it is right and appropriate to label doubters as closed-minded chuckle-heads. Everyone who didn't accept the original documentation was either a closed-minded hyper-partisan, a self-serving attention whore (e.g. Trump), or a chuckle-headed bigot who feared either Obama's race or multi-religious upbringing. There is no point to try to soft sell it. By Inauguration Day, no reasonable person could have doubted the original evidence.

No you didn't. Obama released the same birth certificate that everyone gets from Hawaii, but despite that being a certified state-issued document for some reason that wasn't good enough for birthers. So he made special arrangements to have Hawaii go outside their normal procedures and issue him a direct copy of his original certificate.

And that still wasn't good enough for birthers, since the release of the long form didn't even slow down birtherism - Trump and Arpaio and Orly Taitz and Jerome Corsi and the merry band of morons at WND merely rolled straight on through with their lies after the long form was released. Here we are, six years after the release of the long form, and you're posting birther crap in birther threads, based on garbage birthers are posting elsewhere on the internet, despite the fact that Obama isn't even president any more.

There was never any credible reason to doubt the documentation that suffices for everyone else in the country, including Mitt Romney. Mitt also submitted a certified "generated" copy of the record, which was immediately accepted without question. There was no objective difference in credibility between the certificates first presented by each candidate. The hollow excuse that "we have to be sure" falls completely flat when, in order to support it, you have to level unfounded accusations of collusion and coverup against state officials. That's when you go from the barely-credible pretext of caution to full-blown conspiracism.
