Obama Weighs In

As can be seen a few threads down, sunmaster14 is actually all in favor of accepting refugees from failed states like Iraq and Syria. He was even complaining that Obama wasn't allowing in enough of them fast enough.

That ban should have been enacted by W: the one for Pakistan. I say this with some rancor, due to some operational issues over a decade ago when Musharraf, was still in charge. I'd calmed down on that until they found Osama living there. That place should have been the first ban.

The one with Iraq makes no sense to me: we have current operations in that country, ostensibly to help the Iraqi government with whom we have relations, to defeat and otherwise deal with ISIS.

Posturing, or just doesn't give a crap?

Wrong. It states that only people from those countries must belong to the religious minority in order to claim refugee status in the US. As all the countries have Muslim majorities it is a direct attack on Muslims.

Not only that, but they declared that it would be a Muslim ban.

Trump campaigned on a Muslim ban.
Trump goes to Julianni on how to implement a Muslim ban.
Julian finds a way to implement the ban in such a way that they can say it isn't a Muslim ban.
Trump says it is not a Muslim ban.
Spicer says Trump is only doing what he campaigned on.

It is a Muslim ban and their attempted legal loophole way of implementing it isn't fooling anyone, particularly because they said it was a Muslim ban.

So completely ridiculous!

I have my own business, republicans are business. We are the ones offering jobs to the skilled work force and we aren't hiring machines.

You may be offering jobs to the skilled workforce but your workforce isn't skilled or educated. Republicans have been tearing apart education for generations and people who vote Republican fully embrace their own stupidity. The lowest education is found in Republican controlled areas of the country. And these uneducated dumbasses elected an even bigger dumbass to lead them further into dumbassedness.

Lowest educated and highest use of welfare, that's Republicans in a nutshell. You are best to screen your hires and make sure they are Democrats. Good luck to you and your business.

Citizen? Are you sure about that? Maybe Trump should look into that if Obama doesn't shut his yap.
Apparently you didn't get the memo. Trump said Obama was born in the U.S., period.

Well, if you say "fact" enough, maybe you'll convince somebody you know what you're talking about.
Seems to be a popular strategy. Of course, some posters provide more facts than others.

I assume you mean Musharraf, not Mubarak.

Utter baloney. Muslims can be religiously persecuted in a majority Muslim nation, and that's the end of that.

Yes, but Christian refugeees are endangered not only by the persecution they are fleeting in the Country of Origin, but also from Muslim refugees.

In matters of sanctuary, as in medicine, the worst cases should be addressed first. This is something Obama refused to address while countless Christian refugees were basically interned in camps with nowhere to go in constant close contact with Muslim refugees who hate them just as much.

Sorry to sound dense but I associate "Mubarak" with Egypt. Very different Mubaraks, I know. But I think the way many Americans, out of naivety, latch onto certain names, countries or crises can obscure underlying issues. Even the names of "Iraq" and "Iran" can be deployed to the detriment of both.

If I thought Trump knew what he was doing maybe I'd buy in to this more as a strategic move. But it seems to be backfiring. Perhaps that was the goal all along.

ETA: Ah, similar names, that explain it.

First Amendment? Do you really think the First Amendment applies to whom we decide to let into the country? The Congress has plenary authority over immigration, and it has delegated the national security aspects of immigration to the President. There are literally no constraints on immigration which are proscribed by the Constitution.

And why do you care exactly? There are probably 6 billion people in the world who would love to immigrate to the US. And a significant fraction of them would be a net benefit. It's not like literate, educated people who share our values are in short supply around the world. Why should we have to give priority to people who come from failed societies? So liberals can feel good about themselves?

Of course the first amendment applies. The point was and is about having laws being religion blind. I'm an atheist, I'd rather that the immigrants have no silly superstitions at all, but that isn't nor should it be up to me.

There are principles our country has stood for since the very beginning. It's a mistake to abandon those principles.

We should help who we can, where we can. As far as I'm concerned, the person disputing that is Trumpler, who is promoting ideology over people.

Apparently you missed it but Trump already did and proved once again that he is a complete idiot and a giant sized douchebag.

What does saying something intelligent have to do with this? Obama didn't say anything intelligent.

Hint: That you have a tough time comprehending Obama's well spoken statements doesn't make Obama the unintelligent one.

Oh boy are you going to be embarrassed if you actually read the executive order. If you understand it that is. If you're capable of embarrassment of course. Hmmm. That's a lot of "ifs." Oh well, carry on with your alternate reality.

Check it out:

5(b) Upon the resumption of USRAP admissions, the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, is further directed to make changes, to the extent permitted by law, to prioritize refugee claims made by individuals on the basis of religious-based persecution, provided that the religion of the individual is a minority religion in the individual's country of nationality. Where necessary and appropriate, the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security shall recommend legislation to the President that would assist with such prioritization.

He assured Christian fundamentalists during his campaign that he was going to make sure that Christians from war areas got priority when coming to the US. That is Unconstitutional.

LOL. You know this how exactly?

Obama's popularity is found the same way all leaders' popularity is found, polls. Those polls also show he is has the lowest initial rating of any president.

There is a website for Trump voters to go and express their feelings about his first week. thousands are apologizing for voting for him or demanding their vote back.

Well, if you say "fact" enough, maybe you'll convince somebody you know what you're talking about.

I can hope. You, on the other hand, have already convinced everybody here you know nothing about the subject. You are just parroting Republican dogma.

The basics of triage may conflict with this formula.
It depends on the conditions under which you're conducting the triage. With very limited resources, you utilize those resources to first help those most likely to live because you'll probably fail to save the worst cases anyway and then the resources are gone. As resources increase, you focus on worse and worse cases first as the milder cases become more likely to make it even if you go to the worst cases first.

Are those the same polls that told us Hillary was going to win?

Poll numbers are just about as believable as Bill Clinton's wedding vows.

The polling numbers that predicted that Hillary would win were based on her winning the popular vote, which she did win, by nearly 3 million votes. One of the few that went further was Nate Silver and he had he at the lowest odds to win because he was looking more towards an EC like result. The polling was a lot actually more accurate that people seem to be believing.

He seems to like causing problems instead of solving any so my guess is this is just the beginning of one hell of a lot of turmoil.

Some people have and still seem to like the idea that Trump will "shake things up". Currently, however,, Trump's attempts to shake things up are more akin to a large earthquake than sifting for gold. He's doing a lot of damage.
