President Trump: Part II

Trump bringing his bringing private sector competence to running the government.

The malevolence of President Trump’s Executive Order on visas and refugees is mitigated chiefly—and perhaps only—by the astonishing incompetence of its drafting and construction.

NBC is reporting that the document was not reviewed by DHS, the Justice Department, the State Department, or the Department of Defense, and that National Security Council lawyers were prevented from evaluating it. Moreover, the New York Times writes that Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services, the agencies tasked with carrying out the policy, were only given a briefing call while Trump was actually signing the order itself. Yesterday, the Department of Justice gave a “no comment” when asked whether the Office of Legal Counsel had reviewed Trump’s executive orders—including the order at hand. (OLC normally reviews every executive order.)

This order reads to me, frankly, as though it was not reviewed by competent counsel at all.

In the broader sense, however, it is most emphatically not good news to have a White House that just makes decisions with no serious thought or interagency input into what those decisions might mean. In fact, it’s really dangerous.

It strikes me that Trump is acting like he thinks a President should act - with only a naive idea of what a President actually does. Did anyone mention he now works for us? He's an employee.

How incompetent is this order? An immigration lawyer who works for the federal government wrote me today describing the quality of the work as “look[ing] like what an intern came up with over a lunch hour. . . . My take is that it is so poorly written that it’s hard to tell the impact."

...this astonishing interview apparently reveals how the memo was written.

For those who don't want to click: the video is a Fox News interview with Rudy Giuliani: where Giuliani takes credit for the drafting of the memo. Giuliani claims that Trump asked him "how to do this legally." And this is what they came up with.

Incredible. Unbelievable.

For the past week, I've been flashing to Kevin Kline's final speech before Congress in the movie "Dave".

"I forgot that I was hired to do a job for you and that it was just a temp job at that."

As far as the wall goes I was watching 'White Rabbit Project' and they were discussing the penchant of the Sinaloa Cartel for tunneling under the US- Mexico border. The tunnel they dug to get 'El Chapo' out of prison went down 32 feet vertically and over a mile horizontally. The wall better have very, very deep foundation.

The ban on Muslims has stopped at least one dangerous political radical getting into the USA; Conservative MP Nadhim Zahawi

There's a petition on the UK parliament website asking for Trump's state visit to the UK to be cancelled. It's already easily reached the 100,000 online signatures it needs to be considered for debate, and thousands more pouring In all the time.

How will Sir Mo Farah be able to get to and from his training base in the US. He was born in Somalia.

Yep and Theresa May is on the hot seat, she needs a cushy trade deal with the USA post Brexit but she knows any harsh criticism of Trump will make that impossible. If it does go ahead the security costs will be horrendous. Can you imagine him meeting the Mayor of London, or the Duchess of Cambridge(Kate Middleton)?

He won't as things stand. He's in Ethopia training ATM and may not be able to get back in. Meanwhile the citizens of countries that have actually been connected to terrorist attacks against USA are not affected as the likes of Saudi Arabia aren't on the list.

Every time I see that creepy kid of his, Barron, I immediately think, "That's who is inhabiting Donald's head."

Or majority-Muslim countries that do business with him.

How obvious can it be? Good thing all those people who righteously condemned Clinton for corruption are speaking up, though.

I'm sure that must be an oversight, or there's a very good reason.

In the 40 years to 2015, not a single American was killed on US soil by citizens from any of the seven countries targeted - Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - according to research by the conservative-leaning Cato Institute.

But the same research shows that in the same period nearly 3000 Americans were killed by citizens of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Turkey — most victims of the September 11 attacks.

And oops, wouldn't you know it, Trump has multimillion-dollar business operations in all those countries.

This news making the rounds in the UK isn't going to help trade negotiations.

The pictures went around the world as a sign of the ‘extra-special relationship’ between Theresa May and Donald Trump – shots of the pair holding hands at the White House.

But yesterday a much less tender explanation emerged for the encounter – that he was clinging on to Mrs May for support because he has a morbid fear of stairs and slopes.

As Mrs May continued to bask in the success of her visit to the White House, a senior source suggested that the President suffers from a condition known technically as bathmophobia.

It's not just the Daily Fail either. The Times of London is reporting that Theresa May's team says she held hands with Trump at Trump's request because he's afraid of stairs. At least we're getting a chuckle to go with all this malice from his administration.

I asked this during the election, but once more...are we absolutely certain this whole Trump thing isn't an elaborate prank?

If anything, it was based on McCain's weird reaction to the financial crisis, the crisis itself turning opinion against the GOP, and Sarah Palin being...Sarah Paliny.

This is one thing that I don't quite get. What is the difference between Palin and Trump? They are both well out of their depth, uninformed, and can't string a coherent sentence together while speaking off the cuff. How was Palin an embarrassment to the GOP, but Trump, doing the same thing, wasn't? I mean, sexism is an obvious answer, but that seems just too pat.
