President Trump

Friendly reminder:The best way to deal with Trolls is to ignore them. If you argue with them you are giving them just what they want:Attention.

Most on here seem to have courage, they don't need to make up little monster names for the opposition. ;)

They were talking about Newt Gingrich yesterday...
God, Giulaini would be a Secretary Of State like Thunderbolt Ross was in "Captain America:Civil War". Maybe that is where Trump got the idea....
ANd he has NO diplomatic or Foreign Policy experience.

There's his consulting business but if you count that, it makes the false accusations against the Clinton Foundation seem quaint in determining conflicts of interest.

I think the leftist idea that using a gas guzzling vehicle for pleasure is quite the no no. Couldn't you get where your going with a bike, nap sack, and long beard?
I don't think I'm the kind of liberal you think I am. My hair is short and im clean shaven. I have biked the Oregon Coast from Astoria to Brookings when I was much younger. I grew up hunting and fishing. My dad and my brothers are all construction workers. I'm the black sheep and didn't do honest labor for a living.

I'm a technology freak logger. I don't believe we have to do without. I download movies to my Surface Pro and watch them on my big screen in the middle of nowhere. My RV gets 20 mpg which I think is pretty good. That's about double what my pickup got.

I believe we shouldn't waste and keep the pollution to a minimum. I think we should take care of the planet, it's the only one we have. I believe we are all in this together as oppose to the conservative mantra which seems to be every man to himself. I think we as a society would do much better if we invested in human capital. People are worth it.

One piece of equipment I have has 7 motors that uses 125 full load amps, so yeah I need power, three phase too. But solar would bring the bills lower. So I will be doing it eventually.
That's a hell of a lot of power.but I think you'll be glad you did.

Lets try it this way, show me where I claimed to know?

Ok:

I wonder how many illegals voted? Do you think it might be in the millions?

This assumes that a significant number of illegals voted, possibly in the millions, but thinly veiled as a question, which fools no one. You pretended to know that illegals voted in great numbers, even though you now admit you have no way to know.

Assad approves of Trump.

Syria's leader has said he hopes US President-elect Donald Trump will be an ally in fighting terrorism but remains "cautious in judging him".

Bashar al-Assad said Mr Trump would be a "natural ally" if he fulfilled a campaign pledge to fight terrorism.

But he said it was "dubious" whether Mr Trump could "live up to his promises".

It does kinda put the smaller states more into play, insofar as they are overrepresented (in terms of population) in the electoral college.

No, it doesn't. How many trips did he make to Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Arkansas, Wyoming?

The states that receive the lion's share of attention tend to be large swing states. Yes, small swing states will also receive more attention, but that's a function of swinging rather than being small. What kind of system completely ignores California, Texas, and New York?

Of course, this is the same man who suggested revolution in 2012 when he mistakenly believed that the popular vote went to Romney. I don't think anyone here, not even his supporters, expect consistency from this president-elect.

Thrilling four years coming up.

Even when he speaks in complete sentences, he'll say something at the end that completely contradicts what he said in the beginning.

It's kinda hard to avoid at least the appearance of arrogance when the other side is proud of their ignorance.

Maybe scratch that and take different approach. When conservatives insist that evolution is wrong, that AGW is not real and that abstinence is the best approach to sex education, is it arrogant to insist they just plain wrong? When they decry the environmental regulations that keep their own homes and land in good shape should their opinions be treated with respect? When they think same-sex marriage will be the end of the USA (that is NOT hyperbole) should we meet them on equal ground?

I hear your objections to some of the views expressed here, but working across the urban/rural divide requires some movement on both sides. But I think you're giving the rural side more leeway for their beliefs than you are willing to extend to the urban side.

I don't think I am. As I've said, I'm not asking that anyone consider their views valid - not in any way. But it's entirely possible to disagree with someone *without* calling them names, and *without* being condescending and rude.

For example, you've done a fine job of expressing your disagreement with me, without calling me an ignorant toothless redneck hick, without insinuating that I'm a racist or a bigot. I suspect it wasn't even particularly difficult! :p

Argumemnon this is truly hilarious, you got me, you're a super sleuth.

You pretended to know that illegals voted in great numbers, even though you now admit you have no way to know.
This is even more hilarious, its the best thing I've seen all week.

You have - rightly IMO - decried broad brushing in this thread. But then you post this:

I have a mirror if you need one.

Okay. I suppose that all of my carefully included wording to the effect that I'm working from a small sample, and that it's all anecdotal, and based on my observations and impressions counts for nothing. Clearly, I'm broad-brushing in a way that's obviously identical. I mean, really, there's no difference there at all is there?

But who I really blame for the divisiveness is the right wing talk radio that dominates the airwaves of most of the country. The outrageous and ridiculous hyperbole and nonstop demonization of the left goes unabated and unanswered. It has had a destructive impact on the divisiveness of the discussion.

I agree that the outrageous and ridiculous hyperbole and nonstop demonization is a serious problem that only contributes to the ever widening schism. I just disagree that it can be laid at the feet of only one side. I have no doubt that right-wing talk shows are responsible for at least some of it.

But I don't listen to them. I do interact on ISF and a couple of other predominantly liberal, atheist-based discussion forums, and I do interact with many, many liberals here in WA in day to day life. I think they are at least as responsible. Perhaps it's in retaliation... but it's still there, and it's still driving that wedge deeper.

You and I must have been watching two different campaigns. Trump's entire process was based on reactionary character assassination, with his supporters cheering every bumbling attack. And that's the guy you would have willingly voted for, had you lived in a swing state.

Ok so now you're backtracking to your first answer despite me explaining several times that it's irrelevant to the question!
How is it irrelevant to the question? You asked if having an armed populace would make a difference in preventing a fascist president from coming to power in the US. YES, it would... BECAUSE.. the people who own the guns (the armed populace) are EXACTLY the people who are ideologically strongly opposed to tyrannical leaders and governments that overstep their bounds. It may not be the answer you WANT to get from me, but that is my answer and my reasoning. It's completely relevant to the answer I'm giving you, which is explicitly an answer to the question you asked.

See, and now you're right back to actually answering my question. It's like two different people are using the same keyboard.
FFS, this is the an answer that I already gave you... and which you previously insisted was me moving the goalposts! Make up your mind already!

I don't know why you think I'm opposed to educating the ignorant. Perhaps you could point out where I said that's a stupid thing to do.
I don't think you personally are opposed to it.

I agree that elitism isn't the way to change minds. But in this conversation, I want trying to change minds about whether Trump is a good candidate.

Okay.
