President Trump

I don't have a problem with the pictures per se, but why they are being published now. It's like say your friend marries the girl everyone slept with. You DON'T say a word. There are things people with class do or don't do. That part of Melania's life was a long time ago. They aren't publishing them now because the pics are good. They are publishing them because she will be the first lady.

Because she is in the news and people want to see them and they own them. It is basic driving sales. Why should she be ashamed of them?

How do you feel about playboy publishing old photo's of Marilyn Monroe taken before she became famous?

On a personal level I missed the paralysis, perhaps because of drink and drugs. There was a thing in the Reagan days, but frankly we didn't give it much never-mind. The IRA was more of a thing : I heard two of their bombs go off, but never a Soviet one.

But the IRA was the kind of terrorists american politicians could support and still feel good about themselves.

Me no likey! ;)

Do you have any clue, any inkling at all, that most scientific explanations are that this speed up of the ice melt -- a rate seven times faster than what we saw in the 20th century -- is due to greenhouse gases warming the upper atmosphere? That before you or your pal Trump say it's a hoax you need to provide some explanation to explain it?

Do you have a Plan B in case you're wrong? Or you don't care because you both figure you'll be dead by then so what difference does it make?
You haven't noticed the subtlety. Previously the reactionaries were denying GW as such. They're now merely denying that it is "man made", which suggests that they admit that GW is happening. This they can now hardly deny.

The Trumpites will have a serious problem if Trump continues to water down the wine he trampled from the grapes of the people's wrath during his remarkable campaign.

Will he really build a wall to keep out the Latino rapists? He better! Will he expel three million illegal immigrants? He better! Will he impose restrictions on terrorist Muslim visitors to the USA? He better! Is he going to lock up Crooked Hillary? Cos if he don't the rednecks are going to write him off as yet another traitor to the cause. A Commie Liberal. And they're will look like complete dupes and fools, voting for this lying wimp, which is going to make them plenty mad!

You might think so but with Bannon so close at hand the alt-right message will be that Trump is a Yuge success (after all the alt right need an unhappy white working class to sell the message to) but that the success has been undermined by:

  • RINOs in the house - who keep quashing his bills
  • Washington insiders - who care about such trivialities as whether a policy is implementable
  • Liberal elitists - who keep bringing those pesky legal challenges
  • That Kenyan ****** who was in the White House and in eight years managed to completely ruin Dubya's legacy
  • Foreign governments who completely fail to accede to all of Donald's demands
  • Women, minorities, gays, atheists and anyone else who resists straight white Christian fundamentalist men being in charge

The alt-right constituency will go to their graves swearing that Trump was the greatest President ever but he was undermined by an uncooperative system.

Other than the deplorable racism against white people being stated as fact by many posters, I think my favorite stupid observation is that no college towns went red. Is this supposed to prove anything? Is that where the smart people live?

The way I see it, college professors may or may not live in the same district as the college, graduates move away to start their careers (except the morons that choose an unemployable field) so you are left with Students, some faculty, support staff, and the minority populations that either surround or encroach on urban universities. Of course they go blue. Mostly by being urban and by their own echo chambers where their view is the only one that matters as they squelch any opposing speech.

Last I knew, and I have attended college in the last decade, college kids are being filled with far left propaganda. Safe spaces, blame whitey, and other such nonsense. Of course the students will vote blue, they are just tools. As they age, they realize that and vote accordingly.

That's a really excellent argument for cutting even more support for the poor  They don't contribute as much, they just eat up all of *our* revenue

That will at least show them that they are interdependent and not the rugged independant people not dependant on others that they lie to themselves about being. They hate government entitlements while being incredibly dependant on them. But that is the hypocrisy one expects from them.

You're sick to death of those with less income, less access to education, and less access to good jobs needing a larger portion of the revenues so they don't die of starvation?

Just sayin, this is a whole, whole, scary-whole lot like the libertarian arguments against any sort of welfare. The only difference here is that you seem to want to allow welfare, as long as it gets used in nice, densely populated inner cities and doesn't get used on those dirt poor rural dwellers.

Then maybe they shouldn't vote for those so determined to cut the services they need?

Funny thing on that front... Trump isn't going to be able to become that sort of a fascist unless he takes away the citizenry's right to bear arms - something that his supports absolutely will not tolerate or allow.

Lots of fascist nations have plenty of access to firearms. You need to stop believing right wing lies.

Yeah, except that a pretty good chunk of those right-wing gun nuts very deeply and profoundly believe that their right to bear arms is in place so that such a thing cannot happen. A huge portion of them are strict constitutionalists who take the threat of a tyrannical government far more seriously than most liberals normally do (at least until someone they really dislike gets elected, I guess). Yet somehow you think that they'll magically and spontaneously act against the very premise that underlays their strict defense of the second amendment?

And yet they voted for someone who is by far the most facist candidate in american history.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2016/10/21/how-fascist-is-donald-trump-theres-actually-a-formula-for-that/

So clearly his supporters should be lining up to shoot him any day now.

The Nazis actually increased gun ownership rights for "ordinary citizens" (Jews and other "unreliables" were less than a percent of the population, so they wouldn't have made much of a difference).

The thing is, fascists are usually fairly popular among the population. Hitler had (as far as any historian can tell) genuine approval ratings no democratic leader would ever dream of. Probably, the most gun-owning poplace in the U.S. are pro-Trump, and stricter gun control would actually harm a fascist takeover.

Yes - the military are citizens too, and a large number of active duty take their oath to defend the constitution pretty seriously. To disarm the populace, Trump would have to use the military... and the military isn't going to follow that order.

They seemed to pick up torture pretty easily under Bush. Yes they could have done with some better discipline about not taking pictures on their personal devices displaying it but still.

It is in the part that says "being necessary to the security of a free state". Can't have a free state run by usurpers and tyrants.

But whe already have a tyrannical standing army, something our founders would never countenance.

The sad thing is -- and I don't mean this in a nasty way and I hope it doesn't come across that way -- but the average Trump voter is, or is supposed to be, someone whose lot in life is not going well and feels ignored by the political process. I guess voting for Trump -- in light of the above -- is just evidence of their poor decision-making skills. That based on their personal feelings they chose the candidate least likely to help their situation.

As an example, I still think of the woman at the Trump rally in New Hampshire, the one that was all aglow about The Don. Her husband had worked in a local industry for thirty years only it closed down, moved away and now, she said, he works 16 hours a day at two minimum wage jobs to make ends meet.

ANd clearly a higher minimum wage is only going to hurt them.

Farage meets Trump

Nigel Farage has become the first British politician to meet Donald Trump since he became US president-elect, UKIP has said.

A party spokesman said the interim UKIP leader discussed "freedom and winning" with Mr Trump on a visit to Trump Tower in New York.

UKIP sources say this had "made the prime minister look very foolish".

The meeting came after Mr Farage warned Theresa May on US media that she needed to "mend fences" with Mr Trump.

They have a lot to talk about, like how to roll back all your campaign promises.

No, they won't. Fox News and other conservative outlets will convince them that his failures are all the Democrats' fault.

Also gun ownership is really high in Russia, so they are more clearly the model I would expect Trump to use. There the government hits all of rural america's favorites being all about god, guns and locking up gays.

Hell your employer can force you to pray. Something that would go over well in the bubble of rural america.

Fox news is getting to be part of the lame stream media. They will go with the official spokes agency of Trump Breitbart.

I watched the first 30 minutes or so of Face the Nation yesterday.

Personally, after watching a snippet of Trump followed by interviews with Gingrich and Sanders, I'm feeling marginally better about the future.

But That's Just Me!™

I'm sure most Trump supporters are feeling good about the future under Trump.
