Recall all the crazy scare-stories that were said in 2008 about what would happen if Obama was elected (he'd take all the guns away, make everyone Muslim-Gay-Communists or whatever). Naturally it didn't happen and from that I hope that much of the more extreme things people fear will come with Trump will not happen either.

Except Obama never said any of the highlighted, which is why there is no comparison between the two situations.

I can understand the sentiment even though I think it is the wrong tack. Progress doesn't come easy. It never has. I'm very afraid that the US has elected a man that could lead to the destruction of democracy in America and bring an end to the world itself. I also hope that there are enough checks and balances in place to prevent that.

Most people ARE ignorant and a great many are stupid, but I still believe most have the best intentions.

It is time for progressives and liberals to be proactive and vigilant. We just have to keep making our case for our positions. Work with Trump when we can and fight his proposals when they are totally unacceptable. One foot in front of another. Many of Trump's proposals are seriously opposed by his own party. We will have to align ourselves accordingly.

It's OK to vent. I've been doing a bit of that lately. But eventually, you have to come to the realization that America elected an orange narcissistic POS. The question is what are we going to do about it?
