Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VII

He hasn't figured out that whole "public figure" issue when it comes to libel and politicians. It's very hard for a prominent politician to claim defamation.

When it comes to sitting presidents suing, I don't think there's any legal restriction, but I am pretty sure it would be unprecedented, just because there really isn't any benefit to the president. What does he get out of the lawsuit? He's already rich and powerful, and his reputation suffers more from pressing the lawsuit than from the accusations.

On the other hand, if Donald loses, he could make a credible claim that that the accusations really hurt him badly. Even there, he would have a hard row to hoe to get to a successful award. I think it's mostly Donald Trump talk. When attacked, threaten. Use your wealth and power in an attempt to intimidate people who have gone after you and don't have the resources to defend themselves. At the very least, he would have to absolutely prove that they were lying, that it hurt his reputation, and that it was done with malice. I can't see him winning on any of those three counts.

... I fear closet Trumpettes.

Think maybe I'll calm down and have some dip.
Consider for everyone of those you have Republicans who in public say they can't vote for Clinton, but in the privacy of the voting booth may well vote for the sanity of Clinton.

I don't know what he was thinking. Did he think if he played the heavy, if his campaign rhetoric was based mostly on the kinds of things middle-aged conservative white men tell each other in bars when they've had a few drinks, that somehow this would create a avalanche of support which he could ride right into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?

Trump opened his campaign with trash talking Mexicans, and a meshback hat. If he has any strategy at all, it's firing up the low-frequency voter. It's like the typos on the Nigerian prince emails.

And a lot of the Trumpets hopes for victory now rest on the "Lost Tribe" theory of politics;that there is a vast "Lost Tribe" of voters out there who don't vote because there is not a candidate that represents their views. This theory has been discredited time and time again.

If you read the letter the New York Times legal staff sent Trump's lawyers -- when he threatened to sue for defamation -- there's the answer. The Times attorney said, in so many words, "You're alleging we damaged his reputation but how are you going to prove that? What exactly do you think his 'reputation' is?"

A sitting Governor -- Lowell Weiker of Connecticut (a Republican) -- once publicly called Trump "a dirtbag." How do you damage someone with that kind of reputation? ;)

You're completely missing the point. I suppose you were just looking for a way to ignore that point, and came up with this. The point, obviously, is that you can't draw conclusions about some people based on the actions of other people. Stop treating people as groups rather than individuals.

Supporting Trump is the universal action taken by all the people in question and that action alone is sufficient to label them as deplorable if not even stronger words.

Your point completely misses the point.

The other interesting thing is that although I am not sure of the legal status,a sitting President bringing suit against a private citizen in a private action is I think unprecedented in US legal history. Maybe a defacto admission he is going to lose is starting to dawn on Donnie.

This is a guy who thinks we should be using nukes more often; from that perspective, a few lawsuits really aren't a big deal.

An ordinarily mild-mannered cousin yesterday called Trump a sociopath. I said he was a narcissist, not necessarily a sociopath. My cousin reiterated his opinion, saying, "He's be right at home in a prison yard, until someone stuck a shiv in him." The credibility comes from my cousin actually having spent time in prison. I wondered about the distance between "narcissist" and "sociopath."

They're not mutually exclusive. He can be both.

This thread, refereced earlier, about the tactics of Donnie's buddies on alt.right has gotten even nastier:

The morons at alt right flooded the comments section with their crap, no even trying to hide their racism, anti Semitism, and fascination with violence. The ones calling for a coup on Nov.9th are particularly obnoxious. I know they are deluisional, and I pointed out that 99% of them are blowhards talking the piss, but still scary because of the mentality is represents.
One amusing delusion is that if Trump loses the Police and the Military will be on their side during their little Beer Hall Putsch style takeover. Yeah, right..........

Among the things Trump plans to do on his first day in office:

Trump said:
lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars’ worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal
...
cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs
Paging aleCcowaN, who is deeply invested in his ability to divine Trump's innermost beliefs, as if knowable, and is if relevant, actual positions be damned.

I happen to work for a government agency involed swith managing the lands on which those resouces are located, and it would take massive legislation to open those lands,Donnie could not just do it by Presendential proclamation. You would have to repeal a lot of enviormental protections enacted into law, and face a lot of private lawusits, since a rancher would not be happy with the grazing land he leases being dug up for coal. Trump is truly clueless.

Sociopaths wouldn't seek out the kind of public attention Trump constantly seeks out. A narcissistic sociopath would be completely self absorbed but probably would do more complaining about people and less constantly seeking their adoration.

At times, I have had to tip my cap to Trump in how he has manipulated the media. His day after day after day of saying something outrageous in some way has been brilliant. Now most of those things were stupid and not really doable. ButbTrump has been changing the subject so often the details of his bs gets lost in the tornado which is Trump. He's been a magician constantly misdirecting the focus. His problem though is how he is easily baited and can't resist striking back.

Today was a prime example. He supposedly was going to give a major policy speech but it was the same old crap. And what's worse was his need to threaten his accusers adding one more day of news articles about sexual abuse. Conway and others had to have told him why doing this day after day was bad and yet he keeps doing it What the hell is wrong with him?
