Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VII

You sure it's not a spelling issue? Looks like one too many T's for my favorite former fictional governor of New Hampshire.

Um, no, um, I was, uh, trying to get a pear elected. Yeah, that's it.

Actually I'll blame it on spell check here. It says Bartlet is wrong and Bartlett is right.

God I hate defending the evangelicals. I'm a hard core atheist. But I understand why many of them are still supporting Trump. It's not because they believe Trump is religious or is good in any way. It's because he is now making a pro life stance. He has promised to elect pro-life judges. They know Hillary will not. They know how old some of the justices are.

It's political calculation, pure and simple.

Since when did evangelicals only care about abortion? Once upon a time they were big on family values. A thrice married, cheating, rapist who recently encouraged people to view a sex tape. He is the embodiment of everything they used to hate. Hillary stood by her man instead of getting divorced when he cheated, and they call her evil.

Bad Blood? Donald Trump and Roger Ailes Reportedly No Longer Speak

But as New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman revealed on stage at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit on Wednesday morning, Trump has lost one key ally: Roger Ailes. The former Fox News boss had reportedly served as an advisor to Trump throughout the campaign. He was said to have played a particularly important role as of late, helping him prepare for the presidential debates.

That's all changed now, according to Sherman and Vanity Fair contributing editor Sarah Ellison. The reason for the fallout depends on who you ask.
“Ailes’s camp said Ailes learned that Trump couldn’t focus—surprise, surprise—and that advising him was a waste of time,” Sherman said. “These debate prep sessions weren’t going anywhere.”

On the Trump side, Ellison said the story is different: “Even for the second debate, Ailes kept going off on tangents and talking about his war stories while he was supposed to be prepping Trump.”

Ah, but she's associated with a cheater!

No, I got nothing.

I believe hatred is an appropriate reaction for a man this despicable and cruel.

It may be an unavoidable, visceral reaction, but it's not, I think, a fit state to dwell in. I wouldn't pursue the ammunition analogy too far, but I feel that maintaining hatred is like firing wastefully at a distant target. Hate depletes you.

Seems to me that even an evil man has to have at least some modest stature, some substance before he can rise to the level of being hated: A killer, a destroyer, a warmaker, at least. But -- Tronald Dump? That flabby bag of sh

wind? That bluffer, that semi-retarded excuse for a capitalist boss? That ready-for-nothing?

Nah. Just doesn't work for me. Maybe if he was scarier; we always hate somebody who frightens us.

Um, help me out here. Isn't Trump the one criticizing Clinton for supporting free trade?

So? He's making all Trump brand merchandise in SE Asia, but he's going to bring all the other jobs back. If you don't think about it and pay attention to something else like OMG HILLARY SPOKE AT GOLDMAN SACHS!1!, it doesn't look much like a contradiction at all.

I think that is a stretch. I get the devil in disguise, but I don't believe they really think that. There are lots of single issue voters and abortion and guns are probably make up the 2 biggest blocks of single issue voters.

To quote my mother's advice during the Bush vs Gore campaign:

"You can't vote for Gore. If you vote for a Democrat you'll have the blood of murdered babies on your hands."

When that's the mentality you're starting from, issues like who will be better for the economy, who is the better international statesman and even who is less likely to get us into more wars (babies don't go to war) take a back seat. Trump is the pro-life candidate.

And, even if Trump may be wishy-washy on the pro-life thing, Hillary is definitely pro-choice and will load the Supreme Court with pro-choice judges.

I get it. I don't agree with it, because I'm not a single-issue pro-life voter (I'm not any kind of pro-life voter), but I get it.

What if it was about slavery? What if one party had said that they were going to bring back slavery, and the other party nominated a total doofus? You'd probably have to vote for the doofus.

Well according to the bible, slavery is ok (doesn't say anything about abortion), so I would vote for the pro slavery guy over the doofus. Am I doing this right?

Yup. He is destructive - look at the wreckage he leaves in his wake - and would balk at nothing if it suited him. A perfect subject for righteous hatred.

They don't only care about abortion. (Please excuse the pun,) But abortion trumps everything else.

Little anecdotal story to tell. In 1980, I was a Jimmy Carter surrogate so to speak. I went all over the Seattle Tacoma area answering questions and participating in debates on behalf of President Carter. High Schools and colleges mostly, but also nursing homes, churches and synagogues. Here I was representing one of, if not the most devoted Christian Presidents. And at Kings High School which is a private Christian school I was asked why Carter wasn't a Christian. And I answered that he was. That he regularly taught Sunday School. But they followed it up with if the that is true, why does he want to murder babies?

That issue is paramount to many of them.

Actually, it does say something about the need to have many children :

Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Psalm 124:4-5

Dan Quayle took part in early voting in Virginia. Says he wrote in the name John Kasiche.
